Do you hate personal phonecalls?

Does anyone else hate talking on the phone? Let me state right away that I'm 45, grew up "dialing with a pencil", didn't get a cell phone until the late 90s and adamantly insisted on "just a phone!" cellphones until smartphones took over in the last 6-7 years. I'm not some idiot Millenial who only communicates via Twitter. But I've grown to hate personal phonecalls, and I notice that most of the people who still call me "just to talk" are elderly, but not all. One good friend my age who lives long distance apparently only wants to keep in touch this way, so once a month I sit through a phone conversation with him for an hour. I do call him half of the time, but I get so bored sitting for an hour, listening to him, talking back and forth. There are both many awkward pauses as well as cell-phone over speak (both talk at the same time and neither can hear), repeating or being asked to repeat, signal breaking up, shouting to be heard, etc. I need to block out an hour in my schedule, ignore my partner, and sit and talk like I'm chained to the phone. It's always wet with ear-sweat by the time we end the call. Just inbox me! I also have several local friends who use it as a primary means of communication for mundane-type messages that would be easily communicated by text, email or Facebook. A friend asked me to catsit recently and, instead of emailing or texting me the simple instructions, she called me and verbally recited the information. I actually found myself scrambling for pen and paper with a phone crooked between my ear and shoulder. So retro! Anyone else hate personal phonecalls?
