Princesses Caroline and Stephanie? Prince Albert? Their children? Is Charlotte nice and unassuming or bitchy and entitled? I've heard horror stories about the brothers (womanizing, drugs, fights), but Charlotte seems well-educated and well-adjusted. Her bf is homely, though. Why do they have children out-of-wedlock? What do the royals from other countries think of them? I don't remember seeing or hearing of any British royals attending Prince Albert's nuptials.
Low-life's that have the morals of Alley Cats. They are all uppity and bat shit crazy.
excellent description R1
They are descendants of Mediterranean corsairs. Therefore, they are considered and treated like carnies of European royalty.
Crazy. Preoccupied about her mother. Probably the best person in the family, but was an inattentive and unhappy mother like her own mother was.
[quote] and Stephanie?
Crazy and slutty. Plus, REALLY preoccupied about causing her mother's death. Doesn't know what to do with her life. Nice for a snob.
[quote] Prince Albert?
Bullying and stupid and snobby and a complete horndog.
[quote] Their children?
All of Carline's children are attractive but slutty and druggy and Eurotrashy.
[quote]Is Charlotte nice and unassuming or bitchy and entitled?
Everyone in that family is bitchy and entitled and has been for many generations going in multiple directions.
I think the Brits sent Prince Edward to the wedding. So yeah, pretty low.
Edward and Sophie Wessex attended Albert's wedding. They attend all the royal continental weddings for QEII.
The Monegasque royals are nuts pretty much as summed up here. I'm dumbfounded by the number of out of wedlock kids they've had and shotgun weddings performedthe past two generations. Really shocking for a reigning royal family.
The Grimaldis are the Kardashians of Europe. Their only saving grace is that there are no videos of Stephanie or Caroline sucking or buttfucking big black cock.
I've read that Charlotte presents herself beautifully. There was a fashion show she was introduced to Princess Eugenie of York. The author of the article describes Charlotte introducing herself in perfect French and a not so graceful Princess Eugenie introduced herself "call me Eug" in an accent the author described as 'braying'.
Stephanie's issues ALL stem from the death of her mother. She couldn't even attend the funeral because she was hospitalized. Damaged, damaged, damaged.
This is a quote from Stephanie from the book 'Rainier and Grace: an Intimate Portrait'
``Everybody looks at you and you know they`re thinking, `How come she`s still around and Grace is dead?` No one ever said it to me like that, but I knew that`s what they were thinking. I needed my mother a lot when I lost her. And my dad was so lost without her. I felt so alone."
Their loss was dreadful. The photo at the link does not lie, the family was shattered.
It's a shame that there seems to be no revolution in sight for Monaco, ever.
Does Albert's bullying extend to beating women? There have been some pretty outlandish stories that seem believable about him.
They're all much hotter than the British royals, who all look like horses.
They have Grace Kelly to thank for that, R11.
Caroline's oldest son is getting married on 8/31/13. He and his fiance have been together 7 years.
Charlotte is pregnant but getting married in the Fall. She is also gorgeous and a dead ringer for her Mom at that age
Caroline's second child is the mystery.
I'd rather talk about the Spanish royals.
Then create your own thread for that, r14.
Caroline's second child is the one who keeps getting beat up in major nightclub fights.
Charlotte is getting married pregnant just like her mother did to her father. Andrea is marrying his baby mama. Stephanie had at least a couple of her kids out of wedlock, and Albert has two that we know of.
Why does he do that R16?
And I read that Rainier's father, the Duke de Polignac, was gay!
In Andy Warhol's diaries he talks about going thru an art show in Monaco with Princess Grace and Jamie Wyeth (artist, son of Andrew Wyeth). Grace was unfriendly to everyone except Jamie. Then she found out that Jamie Wyeth's wife was a mega-rich Dupont heiress and she started fawning over her. He also said she was chubby.
OP/r17 who knows? Spoiled, entitled, drunk. Or just unlucky. The NY press found that the other guy involved in the brawl was just as responsible and out of control. Only he managed to break the kid's jaw and send him to hospital.
In Rob Lowe's biography, he says that Princess Stephanie lusted after him because he was on magazine covers. Once an item, all they did was wake up late, and drink at nightclubs with her friends.
Monaco is usually represented at the major European royal events. They might not cross paths often, but they are part of the pantheon of European royals and are a reigning dynasty for 800 years or so.
Prince Rainier's father Prince Pierre attended Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, Rainier and Grace attended the Prince of Wales wedding to Diana, the recent Jubilee celebration, as well as royal weddings elsewhere for other royal Houses. Just recently, Princess Charlene represented her husband Albert II at the wedding of The King of Sweden's youngest daughter.
Graxe attended Di's wedding with Prince Albert as her escort not her husband. Buddy of mine went to college with Albert. Said he had personal experience of Al getting down with guys then- he think's Al's bi.
Personally I think Caroline should run Monaco. Albert is too weird.
Years ago my friends and I were hanging out at a bar in Nice. One of my friends disappeared for the longest time. When he returned, he claimed he just had Prince Albert in the can.
We all figured he just thought it was Prince Albert, but it turned out PA had been seen in several places that evening.
[quote]When he returned, he claimed he just had Prince Albert in the can.
I hope he let him out!
Andrea Casiraghi is heir if his uncle doesn't have any legitimate males.
Caroline is heir if Albert has no legitimate children. If he has a female it's fine, although their sucession is male primogeniture so any brother would displace her. If Albert dies childless then after Caroline it goes to Andrea. Even though he is a Casiraghi, he'd be obligated to become a Grimaldi per their House laws.
I can't get the picture of Stephanie living in a travel trailer with the man from the circus. Talk about low life's!
In their 600 years of ruling Monaco, have the Grimaldis ever done anything significant or interesting?
Is Caroline still married to the lout who pissed in the streets ?
"The author of the article describes Charlotte introducing herself in perfect French"
Well, she is French...
My much older sister is Caroline's age. She said she remembers watching an interview with Caroline back in the 70s which she said, we consider our servants our slaves.
Wasn't their were rumors for years that Stephine was a lesbian?
Grace Kelly once told Lady Di early in her marriage that she was in for a life of unhappiness. It hurt Grace that her husband was cheating on her. Also, after a while, Grace realized that marrying Rainer was a huge mistake because she missed her love of acting, which was forbidden as a royal figure.
I once read some time ago that Grace would get drunk with her drinking buddies, Ava Gardner and Rock Hudson when they would visit her.Once, Grace had a dinner party ,which some important Middle Eastern Prince attended, and many other very important people, and her friend Ava. Grace went to the bathroom, and she was gone for a while. When she came back to the dinner party, her bra was worn over her even gown, and everyone was shocked. On the other hand, Ava burst out laughing like so what!
I thought the wedding of Prince Albert was so bizarre. The bride seemed very unhappy. He looked like a stuffed sausage in that white uniform. The guests looked hot and cranky.
I think one can speak French, or a Monaguesque dialect of French, or one could speak it perfectly and beautifully. Prince Albert II is said to not speak perfect French in fact. He stammers and searches for words and supposedly it has to do with how afraid he was of Rainier as a child. Albert speaks American accented English, interesting because Caroline speaks English with a vague European accent, sometimes her accent sounds British to me, sometimes French.
A friend who has worked closely with one of the AIDS-related charities or foundations that Stephanie supports, says it's common knowledge that she has a shocking coke habit.
BTW, anyone own either of her albums released in 1986 and 1991?
[quote]In their 600 years of ruling Monaco, have the Grimaldis ever done anything significant or interesting?
Well, it was they (along with a few outside investors) who built the casino and the railroad in the mid-1800s, beginning the tourist industry that's still the lifeblood of the country.
Also, most of you are too young to remember this, but Monaco was pretty much a dump until the late 1960s-early 1970s. Sure, there were some fabulously rich people living there. Yes, the casino and a few hotels catering to rich foreigners were glitzy, but behind the scenes the country was decrepit. The hospital was pretty much a place you'd only go to die. Seriously, the Monegasque would take an ambulance to Menton or even to Nice rather than go to their own hospital.
That began to change in the late 60s. The government (well, the Grimaldis) started investing in the country's infrastructure. They rebuilt roads and buildings. They started their famous land reclamation project, for better or for worse. They bought a professional football/soccer team. Princess Grace herself spurred the country to upgrade that awful hospital. If I'm not mistaken, it was completely rebuilt. The new hospital was also named after her...and sadly that's where she died.
Some of the upgrades to the country have not been successful. I kinda liked the grit and grime of the former Monaco. There's some of it still around if you know where to look. For the most part, though, the country seems sterile and just "too clean". There are now cops and security cameras everywhere. I can't imagine living there even if I could afford it.
Stephanie's 1986 album is a perfectly pleasant slice of melancholic italo-disco. I've never heard the 1991 one.
I'm curious to see "Grace of Monaco" with Nicole Kidman which premieres this November.
They're not royalty. They're serene highnesses. There is no king or queen; only princes and princesses. They cannot call themselves "royal majesties."
Charlotte is the prettiest royal in all of Europe. Grace gave them great genes.
R36 I've always been curious as to why Albert and Stephanie sound so American and Caroline has that vaguely French-British-euro accent.
Stephanie is mentally ill. She needs to be medicated to the gills.
R41, among Grace and Rainier's children, Caroline is the only royal (by marriage) and is styled "Her Royal Highness." Her siblings and their descendents are Serene Highnesses.
There is no such thing as a "royal majesty" R41.
And yes they ARE royal, just not quite as grand as an HRH but they are a reigning House unlike someone like Ernst August (Caroline's husband) who don't even have a country. I don't blame anyone here for their ignorance but Queen Elizabeth's grandmother was born an HSH and was considered extremely lucky that Queen Victoria was liberal enough to accept an HSH into her family. Mary wasn't very marriable otherwise because her family was broke and no other HRH would have her due to traditions of equal marriage.
[quote] I don't blame anyone here for their ignorance
Mary! That is SO big of you!
[quote] There is no such thing as a "royal majesty" [R41].
Elizabeth is Is Her Royal Majesty. Only the king or queen of Britain is a royal majesty. The rest of the queen's family are royal highnesses.
The Grimaldis are not royal majesties or royal highnesses they are a princely family, not a monarchy heade by a king or queen ("roy" in French) They're serene highnesses. Grace Kelly was her Serene Highness, Princess Grace. They are a wealthy aristocratic house and media refers to them as royal. They have become far wealthier in the most recent generations than they used to be. Monaco is a principality and until 2002 there was a stipulation that if a dynastic heir was not produced, Monaco would revert back to France.
Also -- males of other houses could take on the Grimaldi name. If I were the daughter of monaco's reigning prince and I was married and my father died, my husband would take the name Grimaldi.
There is no such style as 'Her Royal Majesty'
Is Prince Albert still hooking up with the flight attendant he has an illegitimate son with? I vaguely recall reading some goss somewhere that one of the many reasons that his wife didn't want to marry him(how awful that her escape at the airport was thwarted) was because he was more affectionate towards his African baby mama and his son than he ever was to her, and rumor was that they were going to be at the wedding.
Any goss on what his illegitimate kids are like?
R49 Exactly. It's either "Her Royal Highness" or "Her Majesty", not "Her Royal Majesty".
Albert went to school in the US, unlike his sisters. That's why he has an American accent.
He dated a friend of mine in college and we met a few times. He was slender, very cute and nice...weird what has happened.
I work for Leo Burnett in Chicago a long time ago, and a coworker had been Albert's college roommate. Scott something or other. He said Albert was very nice and smart, but his sisters were crazy and party girls. I hadn't heard that before at the time, but it proved to be true. I hope they've left their party ways behind and are happy and stable.
I think illegitimate children go back quite far in the Monaco royal families. Albert's father's mother was an illegitimate child of Monaco's Prince Louis. Prince Ranier was the only male grandchild and thus became head of state.
Prince Albert is one of the wealthiest royals in the world, with assets valued at more than $1 billion.
I read some book where Ranier went batshit CRAZY before the wedding because the Queen of England wasn't coming, not even a member of her family. The truth is, the British royal family never considered the Grimaldi's, who were not kings, and weren't even royal highnesses (they are serene highnesses) to be real royalty, they were like their Battenberg relations, something less than really royal. Grace did much to turn that around. By the time of Charles and Diana's wedding, Ranier and Grace were asked to LEAD the procession of Royals down the aisle of the abby. Ranier could not go do to ill health, so Albert stood in.
[quote] By the time of Charles and Diana's wedding, Ranier and Grace were asked to LEAD the procession of Royals down the aisle of the Abby.
That was Diana INSISTING on it. That was one aspect of the wedding she would back down on.
So Grace was bitter about not being able to resume her film career? I also read that she was a tad antisemitic.
Why is Andrea losing his looks? He was so strikingly handsome at one point. Is he on drugs too?
Pierre is kind of cute, but built like a concentration camp survivor.
Charlotte is pretty, but WTF is that creature she's spermpoisoned by? He's nasty-looking.
R57, Rainier leading Europe's sovereigns at a State occasion has nothing to do with Diana Spencer or Betty Windsor's wishes. Precedence is accorded based on length of reign. Rainier took his throne 3 years prior to Queen Elizabeth. Right now Queen Elizabeth is the longest reigning. When she dies Charles will be the shortest reign and goes to the back of the line of sovereigns except in his own country.
[quote]It hurt Grace that her husband was cheating on her.
I can't imagine why that would be true. Her Serene Highness was well-known for having handsome lovers in Paris. She kept an apartment and spent a great deal of her time there during the marriage and good for her. She also got around quite a bit before her marriage, and good for her, but that's another story.
Does anyone else remember the "Princess Grace" (or whatever they called it) line of linens? It seems weird and unlikely but I could swear they were real and that she promoted them.
What is the deal with Albert and Charlene continuing not to produce an heir? The guy is 55 yrs old and finally got married at age 53. Yes, he has fathered two illegitimate children who are not eligible to succeed to the throne but what is the deal with him putting off marriage and legitimate fatherhood for so long when he is a ruler that ostensibly needs an heir.
I've read about the 'horndog' rumors with women for years. I've also read that he was incredibly shy around people. When you see him interviewed it's almost painful how uncomfortable he is interacting with people, particularly for someone who has grown up in the public eye.
Something is just seems very, very off about him and his wife. Even the name 'Princess Charlene' sounds like some Texas beauty queen circa 1956(like 'Princess Karen'.) There is nothing remotely regal about her. She seems like a bland girl who comes from working class roots who is out of her element- a very odd choice to be his 'princess' and mother of any future children. And the whole 'runaway bride' rumors just made things even stranger.
I always get strange vibes when I see the two of them. She doesn't seem connected to him at all. You would think if he married her to get her pregnant they sure are taking their sweet time about it. I'd be interested in the real story on those two.
p.s. So if he was to get hit by lightning tomorrow, who would his heir be? Princess Caroline or her oldest son?
I think it's Caroline, R62. Someone who seemed fairly knowledgeable about all things Monaco and Grimaldi posted the succession somewhere upthread.
Why are the Grimaldis of Monaco called "Serene Highness" and not "Royal Highness?"
R64. Not sure but maybe principalities have "Serene Highnesses" and kingdom's have "Royal Highnesses."
I think princess Charlene is very regal looking.
R64, in continental Europe, the style of "Royal Highness" was reserved for direct descendants of kings. Members of princely families who were not direct descendants of kings were styled "Serene Highness."
In the Germanic countries, after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, many prince-electors and their descendants assumed the "Royal Highness" style despite not being descended from kings and emperors.
Monaco isn't a kingdom, it's a principality. Therefore the Grimaldis are ranked lower than other European royals who are from kingdoms.
As other posters pointed out they are styled Serene Highnesses instead of Royal Highnesses.
Only a reigning monarch (a king or a queen) is a "Majesty." The rest are HRH.
The Grimaldis are seen in Europre as a beautiful, entertaining, tragic, trashy family.
I remember reading that Albert's wife wanted to back out of the marriage at the last minute, but of course couldn't. Albert is a pig and that is one unhappy couple. I wouldn't be surprised if they divorced.
Regardless how the Grimaldis live their lives, a sovereign is a sovereign. King Harald of Norway and Grand Duke Henri of Luxumbourgh are equally sovereigns as Prince Albert II is. It's an elite club.
My impression was that Albert preferred men. Is that not true? I've heard plenty of stories about him hitting on men.
I don't know, R70, I keep hearing stories of him beating up women he's fucking.
Why did Caroline lose her hair about 15 years back?
I think her story was that she was stressed, but I think there is more to it than that. Then again, her husband wasn't faithful and her father was ailing so maybe that contributed to her alopecia.
If Andrea is bi, what boys has he been linked with? Or does he just rent them while dating women in public.
Why does Stephanie look so much older than Caroline?
Is Stephanie Grimaldi a sun worshiper? This is not what a 48 year old woman should look like.
R59 "So Grace was bitter about not being able to resume her film career? I also read that she was a tad antisemitic."
Grace was NOT antisemitic, not in the least, but her FAMILY!!!! OY VEY!!! Both her parents and her brother HATED jews. I don't know about her sisters. Grace was, at one point, engaged to a jew, her family went crazy. Some of her best friends, real friends, friends of the heart were Jewish. Her agent was jewish, a couple of her bridesmaids....there were many many jews in Grace's life Grace cherished. Then again, there was LB Meyer. lol
Wow, I'm impressed that so many DLers are are intimates of European royals, and that you're trusted so much to be let in on all their personal thoughts and feelings.
Caroline and Stephanie are big smokers and spend way too much time in the sun. That contributes to their haggy appearance but I think Stephanie does coke or something too.
Caroline's oldest son looks like he had jaw implants, it's so fake looking and makes him look awful. Both those boys look like Euro trash.
Did anyone notice the Grimaldi women still shroud themselves in long black lace veils at funerals? So unusual, its like from another time. It seems like an anachronism in such a hedonistic country whose ruling family have loose morals.
R78, The advantage of long, covering veils at funerals is to show respect and to avoid many photographed at that mournful time.
[quote]Is Stephanie Grimaldi a sun worshiper? This is not what a 48 year old woman should look like.
She's a tanner, a smoker, a drinker and a druggie so she's put some extra mileage on her face and body. Still, with her good genes, she looks better than she should, R75.
She looks so horribly old to us because we're used to celebs always botoxing and filling and nipping and tucking. She's aging naturally and I think that for a 50 year old woman who's put herself through hell, she looks pretty good. \t
I've seen pics of Charlotte smoking too. I hope she quits for the sake of her unborn baby.
of mine went to college with Prince Albert. Said he was nice and shy and definitely enjoyed playing with guys occasionally.
Had a friend who had Princess Stephanie and her then bodyguard/boyfriend on a flight from London to San Francisco. She said the two of them went into the bathroom in first class for a quickie right after take-off, before the seat belt sign was off. She told the rest of the crew and a bunch of them huddled around the lav waiting for them to come out. They exited and she sheepishly grinned and apologized that they couldn't wait.
I remember seeing photos of Grace lying in state - she looked like a bad wax dummy.
I know dead people don't look at their best (and she died violently), but if you are going to have an open coffin, at least they should look human...
R87 That's Caroline's son.
Actually (R60) Elizabeth is not the longest living reigning monarch--the one with that title was born in the USA.
The King of Thailand has reigned longer than Elizabeth, and he was indeed born in the USA (Cambridge) where his father was studying...
And he came to the throne in VERY iffy circumstances...
the Spanish royal princesses are goth girls.
Black nail polish, black Victorian dresses with combat boots, and mischievious grins.
They care for nothing, have thrown all caution and decorum to the wind, and have dedicated their lives to the avant garde.
r91, just wait until he passes and it will happen again.
what does anyone want to know about the Spanish royals? Lots to talk about there. Someone start a new thread.
the Spanish royals have some Aztec blood in them, therefore they are the only royals with Indian ancestry.
They are very interesting.
Was thinking more about gossip about the current batch of Spanish royals. Like how Sofia is holding her breath waiting for her nasty old husband croak so she can be free to live her life. Juan Carlos is not only a notorious p-hound but an unpleasant man.
And how do Letizia and the other royal fam members REALLY get along. Does JC tolerate her or genuinely appreaciate her?
Pierre Casiraghi pings - hard.
Prince Rainier's father, the Duke, was known to be gay in royal circles.
[quote]Pierre Casiraghi pings - hard.
He's got the gayface. Just like Jude Law.
R95 The Windsors now have Indian blood in them thanks to Diana, so the Spanish royal family isn't that unique if in fact they have any Indian blood in them.
Diana, upon ancestral review, was found to have East Indian blood.
The Spanish royals are direct decendants of Montezuma.
You, know, the Aztec from Mexico?
R99, if that isn't a cookie-smelling face, I don't know what is.
I overheard someone saying they were in Monaco and Prince Albert pulled up to a light as he was crossing. He said he made eye contact with Albert in his car and Albert held it and this guy (who is hot but straight) said that it was cool, the guy's royalty and he's just like one of us.
He had no idea he was being cruised by a queen.
What on earth are r101 and r102 talking about? Link please.
Wow R109. I thought that she was prettier than that. Andrea is actually better-looking than she is.
Charlotte's man is fug also; my guess is that he's well-hung.
I just read excerpts from one of the bios on Princess Grace, and boy, she was unhappy there for a while. Rainier was a bit of a pompous jerk with a nasty temper who actually resented the attention his wife got. Her dad was the same way - a malignant narcissist. It had gotten to the point where she would hesitate before going into the palace after a day out. My guess is that she couldn't bear to be parted from her children.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
