I love virtually all his films post-Batman returns. I don't think I've ever followed a director like I've followed Christopher Nolan. But I can't put a finger on what makes him so great, though. Do you watch his films and if so, which one is your favorite?
Christopher dear, do fuck off.
From what I hear, he was essentially forced to do DKR so that he could get backing for Inception.
I can't imagine this Superman-Batman thing is his idea, is it?
Well, Inception was clearly one of his best films, followed by The Dark Knight...I rest my case!
"Inception" is my favorite, but that doesn't make it a great film.
It's original and incredibly cool-looking, but like all of Nolan's films it's an incoherent mess. The man can't tell a story on film.
Uh, they're not. They're all bloated and overstuffed with huge plot holes.
I enjoy most of Nolan's films too, OP. For some reason many of our more elderly DLers can't stand the guy, and start frothing with anger whenever his name comes up.
Maybe because many of our elderly DLers grew up watching great films and understanding how cinematic storytelling works.
I didn't know so many straight teenage boys posted on DL.

That's your opinion.
He's a pretentious asshole who can't even direct women. He's a hack and over.
IMO he's a hack who helps think stupid straight white males think they've experienced something profound.
He turned something innocuous and fun like Batman into a lugubrious bore.
[QUOTE]I love virtually all his films post-Batman returns
He didn't direct BATMAN RETURNS, you numbnut!
I can't believe people who say they didn't like "Memento" if they actually watched it. It's brilliant. His early movie "Following" is also well worth seeing.
For what they are -- Hollywood blockbusters -- his Batman movies are great. They're all a bit too long, but they're certainly entertaining and much smarter and better acted than most movies of that size/scale.

It's because the feature Cillian Murphy.
Chris/r13, don't make us flag you.

R16, don't you have another One Direction thread to start?
[quote]IMO he's a hack who helps think stupid straight white males think they've experienced something profound.
Uhm, maybe because they really are profound? You lose.
They're great if you are 15 years old and have seen only superhero movies since you started watching movies.
Memento is truly good. Inception is overrated mumbo jumbo that stupid people thought was smart. I'm still looking forward to Interstellar.
thank god. I thought I was the only one who thinks that Nolan is majorly overrated and has no real depth. Flashy style.
R20 has clearly never seen Memento.
R19, what, pray tell, is profound about The Prestige?
I don't get the hype about him, his movies are trying so hard to be intellectual that they come across contrived, emotionless and immature. I also don't get why he hardly ever works with great actors. Leonardo Di Caprio, Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale are not necessary great character actors. Heath Ledger was the only interesting thing in that overblown overlong TDK.
Memento was not that great, just an exercise in scene jumbling. Carrie-Ann Moss gave an outstanding performance though, bringing some humanity to the technical endeavour that seemed to dominate the movie.
Oh, R10, you mean compared to someone like Oliver Stone?
[quote]Uhm, maybe because they really are profound? You lose.
You don't even know why that sounds so stupid, do you?
Run along, now.
His movies are the opposite of great--tedious, pretentious, overblown.
r11 hit the nail on the head! You go girl!
The Dark Knight should have won Best Picture.
He makes the type of movie that college aged men say is their favorite if they want a more "intellectual" choice than Bad Boys 2. He's a slightly more intelligent Michael Bay.
R32, talk about damning with faint praise.
Any gossip on him?
He's a sociopath. His older brother Matthew killed a guy for money. These people will do whatever they want to get rich.
