Inspired by a website talking about the joys of Hog Jowls (no kidding).
It got me to thinking about what strange bits I had eaten and loved.
Sheep's balls, they take them young and the meat is tender and delicious.
Sweetbreads are delicious
Do you prefer thymus or pancreas sweetbreads?
Raw tuna belly. Delicious.
A section of turtle's leg, with the green skin still on and pieces of bone sticking out either end.
No, wait, I didn't eat it. I was served it at a Chinese restaurant, but I couldn't get it down.
Armadillo. Strangely enough, it DID taste like chicken, and it looked like it too.
Chapulines, grasshoppers. Have had them a few times. First in Oaxaca, where they were great. Also at Toloache, a Mexican restaurant in New York which I otherwise love, but which doesn't do chapulines very well.
Pig tails in sauerkraut is delicious.
Lamb spleen, grilled with a squeeze of lemon. Yum.
