They couldn't have dropped 'em a LITTLE more out to sea? Really?
Does this mean we're going to war with Australia?
Being an American feels like being part of an embarrassing, obnoxious, self-centered, inconsiderate, moronic family. You love them because you were born into it and feel obligated to defend them, but hate them at the same time because you hate being associated with all of their stupidity *hangs head in shame*
R3, we are, and always have been, at war with Australia.
It would be nice if folks would read the article first. The US did not "bomb" the reef. It jettisoned the equivalent of four large rocks in the ocean due to emergency fuel conditions, with every intent of returning to remove them -- and one of them wasn't even a bomb. The unarmed bombs were jettisoned out to sea, not on the reef itself. Even the park authority admitted that there is low risk of any complications from the incident.
I hate the US military as much as any left-wing liberal, but dear god, we need to be able to critically assess a situation before we sensationalize it.
one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world with so eons old ocean life—
Are we going to start plowing down the Rewoods next???
"The pilots conducted the emergency jettison because they were low on fuel and could not land with their bomb load, the Navy said."
THEY WERE LOW ON FUEL??? I suppose the google maps said there was a QT nearby to gas up and they got lost???
If they weren't low on fuel, then what purpose was served by dumping the bombs in the ocean? How does this advance any military interests?
Well, that's the real question isn't it?
Were they actually bombs?

If another country did the same near the US there would be hell to pay.

This is why, when traveling abroad, I tell people I'm from Canada.
The incident happened during joint military exercises with the Australian defense forces. The bombs were dropped 14 miles away from the reef. I doubt anyone in Australia is all that worked up.
R6 is sensible. Thank you.
Australia is America's staunchest ally, even more so than the Brits. Australia stood by the US militarily in every war of the 20th and 21st centuries, including Vietnam and Iraq.
This is how the right wing operates except no one reads the article. They just pass along the news that the US has bombed the Great Barrier Reef.
Let's not act like like freepers.
We'll be dropping bombs on Canada next!
I would have trouble believing the Stalin-praising, Berlin-Wall-mourning, Hamas-publishing Guardiasshole if they told me the sky is blue. In typical English style, that paper sucks more radical Islam cock than a Pakistani hooker. From their media alone, the only thing the British care about is their oh-so-precious muslim whoremasters while blaming the US every time they so much as stub their toe. Why so many Americans like to lick Britain's rancid, treacherous, hate-filled rectum is a mystery to me (trust me, I've dealt with English backpacker white trash for 10 years and this planet does not possess a more putrid, loathsome and worthless nationality).
R16 if the bombs exploded it would be a much bigger story.
"Uh honey,hi, it's me, I'm runnin' outta' gas, so wait up for me, OK? I'll be home as soon as I drop my "payload". wink, wink.....
[quote][R16] if the bombs exploded it would be a much bigger story.
Especially considering they were unarmed.
You know what would be a really big story? If they were nuclear weapons and they were leaking radioactive material into the Great Barrier Reef. Or if we dropped them on an Australian military base and they exploded, killing hundreds. What if they caused an earthquake?
What if they had killed a little blonde girl who was getting married to a Gulf War vet next month??
A bunch of morons read datalounge.
R13 is right, we aren't to worked up about it. There is more pressing news around here.
But in saying that,I was wondering if is okay if we leave some unarmed bombs in Yellowstone Park?
We are at war with coral
no r13 we are not to worked up about it, we have other things to worry about.
But in saying that, can we just drop some in yellow stone park, we will come pick them up.
(jk, I know it was a joint exercise)
This is just more embarrassing ineptness from our Clown -n- chief.
Don't worry. George Zimmerman will be there tomorrow to retrieve the bombs and save the environment.
So what are they gonna do, send kangaroos an koala bears to attack us in retaliation? Ooh, I'm scared, Australia, I'm really scared. Throw another shrimp on the bahbee.
shrimp really? and kangaroos and koalas? watch some youtube videos of a koala mating, and a kangaroo boxing, then you'll be scared.
And on that note a kangaroo's give themselves blowjobs, pretty cool.
This is why I despise the military-industrial complex.
Always at risk of blowing everyone up.
[quote] LMAO [R38]
I can't wait to read R38 once it's posted. Apparently it's going to be very funny!
In retaliation, the Aussies have threatened to fly cargo planes over the Grand Canyon and drop massive quantities of Vegemite until the big hole is filled.
All is forgiven.
Large rocks=live nuclear weapons. You know they'd never admit it.
Incidents of dumped nukes have been reported by the military before.
R27 is the kind of moron who blames Obama when his mail is late.
Yes, it's Obama's fault that the idiots didn't have enough fuel. Brilliant.
We'd would have done a LOT BETTER than bombing no stinking reef!
I demand a refund r31.
Looks like the capitalist pigs want to destroy it, too
