I love the unforgiving mid-Victorian bullshit spouted by people on DL, as if they have always been pure of heart and upright in love.
I sincerely doubt it; more likely the hypocrisy is emblematic of most who criticize others for not living up to moral standards.
Interesting given the parallels between Allen and Roth and the similar turf they covered artistically, Allen in his films and Roth in his novels. It's also said that the character Allen played in his film "Deconstructing Harry" was a thinly veiled version of Roth.
