The bf and I are vacationing there in a few weeks.
Can any DLers give us suggestions and pointers about what to expect?
We're driving up from NYC. Are there interesting towns to stop in on the way? What is Portland like?
Portland is not the prettiest city but has a huge number of terrific restaurants.
Salt Exchange, Lola's, Shay's are the first three that come to mind. Locals will give you recommendations, and every one will be different!
The East End promenade and Munjoy Hill are my favorite parts. That's where Lola's can be found. Although I wouldn't miss Salt Exchange on Commercial Street.
(It's been two years since we were last there so there may be changes.)
Portland is ok - certainly worth a day trip at least.
Any more suggestions or thoughts?
Stop at Portsmouth NH on the way up, Great restaurants and shops, nice small N E Town. Ogunquite Maine, take a walk along the Marginal way, Kennebunkport, Freeport check out LL Bean.
We don't take unannounced visitors.
There was a fire on a nuclear sub near Portsmouth last year. Skip it.
Ignore the R6 who is a moron and knows nothing about this great town
