well, she can't claim its good old fashioned italian pasta that gave her that look... fillers me thinks..
Aging is hard enough for ordinary looking people; imagine if you had been the most beautiful woman in the world...
Give her a break, she's 109 years old for chrissahes
My God, she looks horrible! And her son is such a mommas boy.
Agree, goodness me! Looks like she add an eye lift with that Asian look, like Joan Rivers and that cat lady.
I saw an interview of her years ago and she claimed she could not get a face lift because she has the sort of skin that keloids. That sounded right because I know plenty in my Italian American family who have the same problem with scars. Maybe she got some fillers or something. Its too bad. She was so beautiful. I sometimes wish the goddesses would do what Garbo did and just hide away and preserve their glamor image.
She doesn't look much different than she did in Nine.
I'm going to Naples in 8 days. I sure hope I'll spot her filming that movie.
It was never about her face anyway, it was all about her huge tatas.
[quote] I sometimes wish the goddesses would do what Garbo did and just hide away and preserve their glamor image.
Yes, of course, better for women not to live and not to show their faces, rather than subject us to their faded looks! God forbid women have autonomous souls apart from their roles as eye candy.
I wonder if you will ever realize how misogynist and damaging your post - and attitude - is.
I believe that Sophia Loren is one of those Italians that has some black or moorish ancestry. That is why she got away with having nice skin for so long. she looked great throughout her seventies!
And her figure!
Did you know that while Sophia Loren was the embodiment of the voluptuous Italiana in America that in fact, most Italian women do not share her type of figure.
Loren is an anomaly even to the Italians!
O cram it R10 I said sometimes I wish, not that they MUST do it or else.
Christ, you know, a quick visit to the doctors may help getting that stick removed from your ass. But they cant do anything about you being a big old drama queen.
It's not about faded looks, R10. It's about ruining your face beyond recognition with surgery. She looks frightening.
My gawd she's at least 80 and has a better bod than moi. Leave Sophia alone!
In the past decade (at least) she has primarily been seen in public wearing tinted eyeglasses. The absence of the glasses in these pictures explains at least a little bit why she looks so different. Also she has typically had a long bouffant hairdo which she also does not have in these pictures. The granny style in these photos isn't doing her any favors.
Aside from those two things, yes she does look a lot different, but don't discount the lack of glasses and different hair.
It's called aging. People change. A person can only hold up for so long, and then they reach a point where you look at them and say, "They're old."
It doesn't mean they're not vital, revered, wise, funny, etc., etc., but there comes a point when they just don't look like they did when they had a certain look.
Just look at your parents. It happens.
She's 78! She looks quite good for 78. Why do you people always act like elderly people have done something to destroy their looks? If they don't die young people are going to eventually look old.
Nobody is denying she has a great body for an 80 year old, R14. It's her face that looks like a ghoul.
I don't think her changed looks are just because of aging. She has definitely had a lot of work done and it wasn't good at all. You'd think a woman with her money would have the best money could buy. Catherine Deneuvre(sp?) is only 8 years younger than Loren and she looks a million times better. Deneuvre has had some great work done.
Except for those big dents under her eyes, she looks pretty good. Better, I think, than all during all those decades in which she pretended that time had stood still in 1965.
You do realize people age differently and have different skin, hair and bone structure to begin with so cosmetic surgery isn't always going to give the same kinds of results? One is French with fair skin and the other is Italian with darker skin. Sophia Loren is not Catherine Deneuve. I'm not an expert on cosmetic surgery but it looks like Loren's sagging skin under her eyes is a natural result of aging.
for a 78 year old woman, I think she looks just fine. you can't expect her to still live up to the image she projected in her prime, can you?
The biggest reason she looks different is that she isn't wearing those big tinted glasses, the ones she always wears to cover the bags under her eyes. And she's had something done to her forehead, a lift if not botox, but IMHO her face looks puffy because of the baggy eyes and not because of fillers or implants.
Her figure is mind-boggling, for a woman of her age. I wonder how much of that is natural, and how much is steel reinforcing?
She looks really good for 78. Still has a wasp waist.
Figure is awesome. Bags under eyes are meh. Teeth by Maurice Sendak are frightening.
She looks great for 112!
If she were wearing the big glasses, we would barely notice any difference from a dozen years ago.
I don't know about and eye job, she's got visible bags under her eyes even when shot from above at a distance. If she's hand any surgical procedures, I'd guess a neck tightening or a laser neck tightening. She was never the most vain gal in Hollywood, but she was always a very likable human being.
I think it is kind of sweet that she is doing this as a favor for her son.
You want to get asses in the seats?
Have your Momma, who may be one of the most famous people in the world come out of a nice retirement and recite some lines and show them some acting chops. Win-win.
She went through so much drama to have her babies back in the day. It's nice to see them together.
She looks just fine to me.
R15, at her age she may have some balance problems. Heels are bad for women of any age, but Sophia is well past the age where she should be wearing them, especially on uneven pavement like cobblestones.
[quote]Teeth by Maurice Sendak are frightening.
STFU you haters.
Be 78, see how it works for you.
R30 = Estelle Getty in flats
r30 - Lesbian in clogs.
she looks great
[quote]My God, she looks horrible! And her son is such a mommas boy.
(taking off earrings) – I will find and come for any bitch that talks about my Screen Goddess Sophia! For someone of her age, one of the few still living screen legends from the classic B&W pre-1970s era, she looks DAMN GOOD! Her figure is just as fabulous as it was back in the day. As a classic film buff, I love this woman. Whenever she shows up as an Oscar presenter, I’m in heaven.
Btw, is one of her sons openly gay?
[quote] Btw, is one of her sons openly gay?
Not this one. At least not openly. He's married to Sasha Alexander and they have 2 kids.
What I found touching is she is holding on to the son and the other guy in each of the photos, is she unsteady on her legs?
I saw her up close in 1979 when she was signing a book in London at the Selfridges department store, which was packed full. She signed my book and smiled. Stunning face. She had aged well up to now, and doesnt look as false as Joan Collins. Her great rival Gina Lollobrigida also looks odd now and she's 85 !
Loren though has to be very wealthy, and also as the widow of Carlo Ponti. She even went to jail for a few weeks to avoid paying tax, back in the 70s.
You only have to look at El Cid or Yesterday Today & Tomorrow, or Houseboat with Cary Grant to see what a stunner she was. She was as famous as Liz Taylor then.
[quote]Btw, is one of her sons openly gay?
The rumor is about this son being gay.
She's obviously unsteady on her feet, R40. In some of the photos, she looks like she's hanging onto the two men for dear life.
According to idiot DL posters, she should be wearing stilettos.
Just for the record, she is wearing flats.
Large breasted women have the hardest time keeping their waists small. I do not know how she is able to keep such a small waistline at her age.
She's quite remarkable!
She is 78. Get a grip.
I love her in It Started In Naples with Clark Gable who was 30 years older than her, and she is super in Arabesque in 1966 with Greg Peck. She is terrific too in those early ones like Boy On a Dolphin with Clifton Webb, or Legend of the Lost with Wayne. She also starred with Brando, Newman, Burton, O'Toole etc. Good to see her still around rather than being holed up in Geneva.
You gays think everyone is gay.
You bitches are mean, she looks fabulous, even at 78.
You people are nutz. She looks great for almost eighty. That's not a eye job. Her eyes always looked like that but now has lines and wrinkles of a eighty year old. If she had an eye job don't you think the bags would have been the first to go? And she always had prominent teeth too.
[quote] Maybe she is playing an elderly Italian whore who refuses to age gracefully.
So it's a movie about Sophias life?
Did she have any daughters? And did they inherit those curves?
r73, no, only two sons.
She's only three years older than Jane Fonda, who looks 15 years younger than Sophia, and seems at least two generations removed from her in mindset.
R75 is spot on
Maybe she had an allergic reaction to her pesto sauce.
The camera is supposed to shoot UP!
Hell, yes, she's 78! You might wish you could look that good when you are almost 80! People get older...it's part of life! Get over yourselves!... She has bags under her eyes, which people start getting in middle age. Some of you think that you're going to look 18 forever. The rest of us have news for you!
Also born in 1934: Florence Henderson, Shirley Jones, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Shirley MacLaine, Tina Louise, Anne Wedgeworth, Gloria Steinem and Rip Taylor!
1934 - it was a very good year.
Sophia and the others born that year are two years older than John McCain.
Oh, for God's sake, she's pushing 80 and it's clear she's not young any more. So fucking what?
It is obvious that Sophia had some plastic surgery with terrible results.
I think it's her eye makeup as well as plastic surgery. I googled some recent photos and her eye makeup is extreme. Without the heavy liner and eye shadow she's sported in recent years her eyes look rather ordinary, like they do in op's link. She's lost her signature look, but she still looks great for 78.
I think she looks fucking great for a 78 year-old. What a figure! Also, she may be wearing flats so as to not tower over her costar. She is quite tall. As you can clearly see in some of the photos, she is about the same height as her costar.
What are these gay rumors about Edoardo?
I hope I look as beautiful as her when I am her age.
Well, since you aren't as beautiful as she is at the age you are now, you aren't off to good start.
It didn't get much better looking than these two. Two absolutely gorgeous human beings.
She's preparing for her role in "The Laura Bush Story".
How gay are her sons?
I never understood why everyone though she was so beautiful. I do find her son sexy tho
The photos are quite touching I find, as though she has suddenly aged and needs to hold on them to keep her steady. She will be 79 in September, the age my mother was when she died ... We forget these great beauties may still look terrific for a long time but they are ageing too and it always catches up with them eventually.
I guess age and plastic surgery are finally catching up with her. She preserved her essential look and beauty pretty well, into her 70s. But time does not forgive the aging process. She was one of the most glorious looking human beings I have ever seen in her younger and even slightly younger days. I have seen her up close as recent as about 8 years ago- standing in a hospital lobby speaking to someone, no entourage- in a red suit with those signature large glasses. She looked stunning at about 6 feet in her heals, maybe more. I've always thought she was a class act.
Looks like she's had some bad (or too much) plastic surgery or fillers around the eyes. I guess she wanted to look younger. But the surgery just makes her look strange, and that's true of a lot of celebrities, some much younger than she is.
Her eyes were one of her best features. They were huge, long-lashed, stunning.
It's sad to see screens goddesses (or gods) get older. When you see them on screen when they're young that image is indelibly printed on your mind. So to see them old and without their youthful good looks is a shock.
To criticize aging actors and actresses for their lost looks is unfair, unless they've ruined their looks with endless plastic surgeries. I don't think Loren has had a lot of work done; I think the work she did have done was done badly.
People change over time.
I was a bit shocked by these recent photos as well, especially after last year's photo in Vanity Fair (March 2012) shot by Leibovitz.
R88 thanks for the pic of her and gorgeous Marcello.
r96 Thanks for the link to the Vanity Fair interview last year. I have that issue. It may be her final word on all that Cary Grant stuff. I love her kingside bed and opulent bedroom - fit for a movie queen.
