Helena Bonham Carter may be an even worse choice than Lindsay Lohan.
At least it's not directed by the other Burton
HBC can be a damn good actress, when away from Tim Burton and musicals.
Why she's chosen to center her career around those two things is a mystery.
I never miss a Helena Bonham Carter musical.
She looked very flat-chested for Liz in the clip.
Complete failure. She looks, acts, and sounds absolutely nothing like Elizabeth Taylor. Only positive is, this is the first role in twenty years where her hair is combed.
This aired in the UK last night. Any British DLers see it? How was it? Reviews were mostly positive.
(R2) Ever heard of contact lenses?
I saw it. I thought she and Dominic West were both great. It was very touching. They both got the essences of Burton and Taylor right without resorting to mimicry.
She looks nothing like Liz Taylor. Flop!
There's only one Liz Taylor.
This is available on BBC America on Demand. I just saw it, and.... well. It's pretty tough going. I couldn't believe it only lasted 2 hours--it felt like 4.
HBC does a creditable job. She gets the Liz voice and manner right, even if she doesn't always look like her. West is fine. The problem is the earnest, dull, talky script, which makes Burton a pious saint of the theatre struggling with his demons, and Taylor a bitter slave of love. Yawn. Even the hideous LiLo version made the point more succinctly.
Maybe I just don't find this romance that interesting.
