'Glee' Season 5: Four original cast members out - Amber Riley, Mark Salling and more

"Glee" fans have said goodbye to at least four of the show's original cast members: Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum, Jr. None of the four will return for Season 5.
The news was first reported by TVLine, which added that Dianna Agron is also a maybe for the upcoming season. She is not on the current list of returning cast members, but might still be back to play the role of Quinn as a guest star.
There is a chance that the four departing actors might get an occasional appearance as well. Heather Morris' Brittany could easily return from MIT for a visit -- after the actress gives birth to her baby, of course. Amber Riley's Mercedes and Harry Shum's Mike could likewise return from their respective colleges (or wherever they were supposed to be by the time Season 4 ended).
Salling's absence is the only big surprise here. When last we saw his character, Puck, he had moved into a college dorm with Finn (Cory Monteith). Since Monteith is presumably returning, Salling's departure might need more of an explanation.
With such a mass exodus of old actors, there is the question of who might take their places. It seems likely that some of the new Season 4 stars like Melissa Benoist (Marley) or Blake Jenner (Ryder) might finally get upped to regulars. Alternatively, there could be even more new faces at McKinley in the fall.
"Glee" Season 5 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 19.
There's too many cast members already. They've still got most of the original cast plus new ones. They could cut out another four and not replace anybody and pare it down to an acceptable size.
But I'm over this show.
They need to spin off the NYC stuff into its own show, or just abandon it and leave those characters gone.
This can't be a surprise to anyone that actually watched the last season. The characters of Puck, Mercedes and Mike were barely used, the fact they were series regulars was a joke. And the season finale was definitely a good bye to Brittany.
I am getting over the show. The fact is the highschool format is stale. They need to invest in the NY setting so the show can grow and evolve.
Does this mean Harry is available for porn now?
Will the white guy with the yellow skin be returning?
And then some.
Are they doing another "Glee Project" reality show this summer?
Will the tranny still ne on? I like the tranny.
I've never watched a minute of this program.
Thanks for letting us know, r10.

And yet you're here to comment on it. It's all about you, isn't it?
I can't imagine Mark getting another acting gig after this. He was terrible.
Considering he wasn't originally trying to be an actor, he might not be that upset about it. I'll miss him though, such a hot guy.
Puck being eliminated is the only surprising thing. They used him quite a lot compared to some of the other graduates, and they did set him up to be Finn's roommate. Maybe that means they're planning on moving Finn to NY fairly early in the season.
Same old, same old. With the exception of Heather's departure, this is pretty much the same as last season. I guess the only change is the actors contract status.
RE: Season 5
I heard there will be heavy focus on the WMK side. Supposedly, Chris, Lea and Naya will be reduced to glorified guest stars.
Pare the cast, focus on NY.
Sit Chord in the back of the choir room (shirt optional). Glue his ass to the chair so he doesn't dazzle us with his suave moves. Duct tape his mouth so I don't have to hear him emote and please continue to cut away/edit every time he starts to contort his features during one of his emotional scenes. The boy is a leading body; he is not a leading man. And please sit Darren on his lap and make them both wall candy.
Chord/Darren/newbie overload ruined Season 4.
They need to bring the Irish guy back on, he was so cute!

He should be upset considering his music "career" was a total flop. This show was his only success.
The Irish guy was cute. Many said he was a horrible actor, however. I didn't think he was worse than many of the others.
I don't care if you don't tune in to Season 5, because I won't have to tolerate your bitching.
I was referring to Harry Shum in that part, r18. He's always been a dancer.
R21 Oh, I thought you were talking about Mark since that's who I was talking about and you responded right under my comment.
From what I understand, Mark Salling wants to be a folk singer, and is working on his new album.
R23 Good luck with that. His last album flopped at #189.
I have a friend who's a folk singer.
It's a start. Now all they have to do is get rid of all the rest of the actors and make the show all about those dorky looking musicians who turn up at the drop of a hat to accompany everyone. Those guys are rock stars. I bet they're swimming in pussy.
Mark is a very talented actor. Very quick-witted and super sweet in person.
He will have some guest appearances on an DL fave cop show.
That's all the gossip I can give right now.
Mark Salling is an awful actor who isn't aging well. He will be back in Texas soon.
I want Mark Salling in me quite deeply.
Mark is a star, I just know it!
Actually it's my bad, r22. I read your post and thought you said Mike when it was Mark.
R10 is one of those annoying assholes that likes to loudly and smugly announce that he doesn't even OWN a television at any gathering of more than two people.

I agree! People like that are incredibly pretentious.
If they were to move the show entirely to NYC, it couldn't really be called Glee anymore. Lea Michele has an amazing voice, but I do not care for her as an actress. I don't care formChris Colfer either. I liked them both as unattractive high school misfits, but they dont work as success stories in NYC. I stick with the show out of loyalty and aside from the occasional good song, it's tedious.
That was the problem with The Glee Project, R19. They had them perform songs every week, but hardly ever had them work on scene study. Glee is 70% spoken, and there are a much of singers who can sell the shit out of a song, but can't perform a word of dialogue.
much = bunch*
Agree with r36. I enjoyed The Glee Project, but it was inherently flawed for that very reason. Picking an actor over a singer is the reason Blake Jenner worked so much better than the four season one kids.
Blake Jenner is hotter than hell.
Here's the thing: no one cares about the new kids. No one. Regular viewers can't even be bothered to learn their names. So they can get rid of old regulars (emphasis on OLD) but it doesn't leave them much to work with.
Jacob Artist is the hottest man on television right now.
Blake Jenner is dreamy!
Blake Jenner has horseface and the charisma of a used tissue.
