Could The Supreme Court Decision Be Handed Down Tomorrow, Monday, June 23, 2013
Apparently, the media is expecting it. Is this the last chance for them before vacation?
They have 11 rulings to hand down. Expect two day of rulings, maybe three. Monday, Thursday and Friday. They don't have to rule at all. They can do whatever they want.
It's not uncommon for major decisions to be released in the last days of the term. This means people are polishing dissents and/or the majority opinion. They likely are 5-4 or close decisions, so they give each other time to have their say. I think decisions are expected Monday & Tuesday. www.scotusblog.com is a great source of information & analysis, and they have live bloggers and a twitter feed when decisions are announced.
Thomas is married to a man so he should recuse himself.
I'm almost certain Scalia waggled his hairy vulgarian fingers around the opening of a glory hole at me in the late 80s, so he should recuse himself as well.

If they release at the last minute, they can also be comfortably out of Washington and starting their summer vacations by the time the shit hits the fan of a decision on a divisive case whose denouement will, by definition, make a lot of people on one side or the other very angry.
See: Roberts, Geneva, Obamacare, last year.

Will this be televised?
Whatever the decision, this site will be quite interesting on that day
R6, there's nothing to televise -- no ceremonial reading of the decision. Written decisions are handed to whatever members of the press are present, who may then report it immediately on TV -- CNN will have someone there, & will announce it ASAP (correctly, I hope).
Do you think there will be riots if they rule against us? How cool would it be if we had another Stonewall.
R3, Spy magazine used to call Donald Trump a "short-fingered vulgarian" back in the late 80's, but I always felt that the description better suited Saul Steinberg (to whose wife they typically referred as his "putative dietician). Steinberg's fingers were certainly hairier than Trump's, and at least on a par with Scalia's. What's more, Steinberg didn't have as much else that he might have shoved through that glory hole, so I think that it was more likely he.
that would be Monday June 24th, 2013.
No matter how they decide, once the decisions are announced everyone flips to the Scalia opinions.
It's judiciary porn.
