I've always enjoyed this genre, of which Bessie Smith was the queen. But there are lots of other talented ladies from that era: Ida Cox, Sippie Wallace, Victoria Spivey, Alberta Hunter, et al. Here is the only known video footage of Bessie, singing "St. Louis Blues."
