"He has one acting mode, insane."
Not true at all. He's very different in the recent film MUD, and the stage work of his I've seen shows a lot of range (and he can be very funny).
Unfortunately, he has tended to be typecast as crazy people in film and TV.
He's much, much more talented than Jeremy Renner. Renner could never carry a film like TAKE SHELTER or THE ICEMAN. Renner's performance in the lead of THE BOURNE LEGACY was no more than serviceable - he's not leading man material like Matt Damon.
Renner is best in supporting roles. He's like the new Michael J. Pollard.
^I was talking in terms of looks, not talent.
R4 thru R9 are playing with my head! Keep going back and forth between :::swoon::: and "GAH!"
He's an excellent actor. I finally saw the Superman movie. Man Of Steel was very badly cast aside from Cavill and Shannon. Cavill was serviceable with the terrible writing and scenes he was given. Yeah - turn an 18 wheeler into a pretzel - that'll protect your cover. Amy Adams had none of the pluck, slight egomania, recklessness and earthiness of Lois Lane. It was such a bad movie, terribly edited, paced, written. I often had very little idea what was going on. They rushed through the Krypton scenes like the movie was on fast forward. The fact they had Superman murder his opponent instead of intelligently cooking up a solution was offensive. The 9/11 visual references - people falling out of buildings like the WTC - was needless and sick. Shannon actually brought some humanity to his role. Terrence Stamp was more regal and scary, though.
He reminds me of Giovanni Ribbedface, kind of hot at times, but others - uggo.
Perfect summation r19 - Shannon's performance was the only redeeming part of the film, IMO.
He is not mmediately sexy to me, but he was very funny AND sexy in his MUD cameo.
I haven't seen Superman, but it's sounding more and more like Shannon was pretty good in it... and Cavill just fit the suit ala Johnny Bravo.
I think they were both pretty average in Superman. As an actor I would take Renner any day.
If this was a just universe, he would have been A List *and* an Oscar winner for "Take Shelter". That film had top notch acting from him, Chastain down to the extras in the Thanksgiving dinner scene. Wow.
Here's a full frontal nude pic by Richard Avedon, when he was starring in the Off-Broadway version of Tracy Letts' play BUG. (WARNING: His co-star Shannon Cochran is also nude.)

This is getting a lot of backlash in various parts of the Internet (the Atlantic, Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, etcetera).
He has tinymeat in R25's pic. He also has succulent puffy nips, though... That always trumps dick size.
