I gave up on 'Today' due largely in part to the way NBC treated Ann Curry. She worked for NBC for 15 years, and her departure was a disgrace.
Matt was an asshole throughout.
Was such a big fan of Matt Lauer. I don't know how much of a culprit he's been but there sure seems to be a lot of energy and substance around the suggestion that his ego is out of control.
See. It was not me.
Hey NBC: send Matt home, problem solved!
I only watch those morning shows when I'm travelling and just turn the TV on to anything while I get ready to check out. And that's about twice a year.
Why do they insist on going outside to the screaming, ugly people from Indiana?
A new set! Doh! That's what the problem is.
The new set will help. It's going to have a picture of Matt Lauer's 9 inch penis
[R7] The should change the name to The Today "SHIT"
WTF- R8- is this a spoof or real?
[R9] The new set ought to be plastered with photos of Ann Curry!
WTF- [R11] are you gullible? Or merely STUPID?
If the new set includes Matt Lauer, then the problem remains. Savannah Guthrie needs to go too.
I love what a disaster that show has become, Matt should be blamed for everything. Ann Curry must laugh every morning even thinking about it. I prefer good morning America.
I've always thought Lauer was a douche. Why is he still there?
Even if people didn't like Ann Curry, nearly everyone agrees that the way they dumped her was really awful. Today needs more than a new set, it needs all new on-camera people. Maybe it's also time to bury the "Today" name.
R5, there are many people whose idea of a vacation trip to New York is hanging outside the NBC Studios for The Today Show.
Did you guys watch TV video? That Mike Sacks is a hottie! He seems to ping a bit. Anyone know anything about him???
I went to Duke with him, and knew him fairly well. (I've seen the guy shirtless on numerous occasions - he lived for walking around the quad in various states of deshabille.) Vaguely sociopathic and intellectually void, but that's par for the course in his profession.
Yeah, well that guy on the 9:00 hour has a face made for radio and zero TV personality and if he gets promoted up, the show will end up in third place.
R18, is he gay or did that never come up???
As far as we saw, he was straight, R17.
Changing the set will be a HUGE help. They need something less cold and bland.
This is like firing the wrong people in the out of town try out for a Broadway show. The set? Get rid of the Aids looking weatherman, the boring women and the obnoxious, full of himself head anchor who has outstayed his welcome.
Who are you talking about, r18? Not everybody is inside your head. Try to be clear. Thanks.
I read in EW that Matt's mistake was not acting surprised when she was ousted.
Yeah, I think NBC handled her exit horribly, but a) how DO you handle it? and b) it was their own fault for promoting her?
They could have said, look, Ann, all our research says people don't want you on the sofa with Matt. You can stay on as news reader and fourth wheel along with Al.
R24, he was responding to my question at r17. Perfectly clear and appreciated...
Matt should go. He's no longer cute and no one watches the show for him, and he clearly had Ann ousted.
He had a good run, but it's time to move on to other things.
Just hire porn actors and get it over with...
No, R24. Follow the conversation, and all will become clear.
The Today Show is terrible now. They are basically taking stories from Gawker and Google and talk about "what's trending now" has gone to a completely tabloid format. Of course the horrible staff problems and publicity haven't helped. They need a total shake-up and relaunch.
Good Morning America is also pretty unwatchable especially when it seems as if the entire cast has done one massive line of crank and laugh unroariously at the freaking stupidest things. I love CBS. Charlie occasionally fucks up his lines and appears to not really know where he is but the news coverage is straightforward and informative. Love John Miller.
I don't know anybody my age who watches those stupid morning shows. We're all on our tablets in the morning and never turn on the tv. In another 10 years, I think the morning show format will be extinct.
Born in 1990 and reading this on my tablet on the morning, R32...LOL apparently it's true.
I watch the Today show during the second hour when Matt is not co-hosting.
They need to decide if they want to be The McLaughlin Group or Extra! Mixing hard news with fluff is impossible.
It's as if they're afaid to identify who their true audience is. Most intelligent people are in their cars commuting to work at that time. Who's left? College students, hausfraus, senior citizens, pets.
Maybe that's why the hosts always end up bitter and back-biting. They know they're only talking to a welfare queen who's saying, "Turn that boring shit off".
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
