R10, I'll wait until I see it before I decide if it "ruined" the book. I really enjoyed the book but I don't think it was some masterpiece of writing - it wasn't. The book also had chapters I found deadly boring.

When I bought the earlier written Zombie Survival Guide I couldn't make it through because it was just too silly and juvenile. As you say the book was pretty useless as a template for a movie but I'll see what elements they've retained and even if they just get the essence of the book (an apocalyptic plague as seen from various parts of the world) I'll probably be happy.

Once in a while Brad Pitt plays a role that fits his appearance, and his personal energy, and he can be very enjoyable (Fight Club, Jesse James film...). But for every role like that there are ten when he struggles to create a portrait. Most of the roles he plays are simply too big for his talent. For example, I think the role he plays in Moneyball was shrank by his single-minded portrayal. Same goes for his portrayal of the abusive father in The tree of life.

Pitt is always on the surface as an actor. There is no "there there."

I believe Keanu Reeves never wanted to be a movie star, and is in the process of wandering away from it all, but not Pitt! Pitt has worked too hard to maintain his status, onscreen and off. He's been through many lean years, had strings of flop after flop, and maintained his celebrity status through his relationships with Gwynneth, Jen, Angie, etc. He is the model of the modern famewhore, and an absolute master of the craft. He is a master user, on both the personal and professional levels.

I can see why people think he's a hottie, but damn. If you think he's just some aw-shucks regular Joe then you're an idiot who believes anything the PR people tell you! Careers like his don't happen without near-monstrous levels of drive, ambition, and strategy. (Same for Jennifer Lawrence, who is the latest to imitate his just-a-regular-guy-who-got-lucky image.)

I disagree R114, I don't think he's ambitious and driven at all, that's why he gets backlash. He does not care about being a celebrity at all. Bradand Angie are not Kim and Kanye. They don't have huge weddings and whore about their lavish lifestyle. I think Brad would be fine with everything if he never made a movie again. You can tell by his choices that he does the roles he wants to do and not vice versa. Imagine if you were an actor and Brad was your competition, you would probably quit because not many in the walking around population have his looks or charisma. If you were a casting director you would be able to tell he has "IT". And of course people backed him in his early career it's like backing a stallion instead of a donkey. Cream always rises to the top. His passion is architecture by the way not acting. He is more into creating things that way. I think acting is only a side hobby for him now. His 2013 Esquire article made me change the way I perceive him.

My Uncle has met him and worked on a project with him, even went for a drink at one of his French vineyards. Apparently Brad is charming and delightful, as well as very cordial and down to Earth.
