Jeb Bush: U.S. economy needs immigrants because they’re ‘more fertile’
Former Florida governor Jeb Bush (R) argued Wednesday that the United States should pass immigration reform because the U.S. economy needs the labor of young immigrants, and immigrants are “more fertile.”
“Immigrants create far more businesses than native-born Americans,” Bush said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to the Majority conference. “Immigrants are more fertile, and they love families, and they have more intact families, and they bring a younger population. Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity.”
Bush said immigrants are an advantage that the United States has over China, Europe and Japan, which don’t have the same immigrant tradition and are struggling to find young laborers.
“If we don’t do it, we will be in decline, because the productivity of this country is dependent upon young people that are equipped to be able to work hard,” Bush said.
Bush, whose wife is a Mexican-born immigrant, has long been an advocate for comprehensive immigration reform.
A Census report released Thursday showed that, for the first time, white deaths in the United States outnumbered white births. Population grew because of growth among Hispanics, African-Americans and immigrants.
I just don't think the US would elect another Bush. That family already has too much power.
[quote]He won't, R2. He will be raped every night if he announces his candidacy.
There are millions who share your thoughts, R5. You can sit back and watch him get "raped every night."
You're the same people who gave us a Republican House and think Chick-Fil-A is nearly out of business. How does it feel to have your head buried in the sand?
You're utterly boring, R7 / ancient troll. We liberals and Democrats will wait for you to try again... Put a little more thought into your chiding non-sequitur next time.
R7 sounds incredibly stupid. Is he the pro-Chick-Fil-A troll?
They are more fertile. They also cost the taxpayers lots of money. The taxpayers pay for most immigrants medical expenses. We also pay for the child to get Medicaid, WIC benefits, food stamps and other benefits
It costs at least $10,000 for one child to be born. The taxpayers pay for most immigrant births/medical expenses. They average immigrant doesn't even pay $10,000 in taxes in two years. Factor that plus all the other benefits they get plus the public education the immigrants child will receive and the taxpayers pay more than the immigrant could ever give back to the county in 3 lifetimes. Jeb like his shit for brains brother W doesn't know how to do simple math

Keep fucking that chicken. It's ignorant racists like you who will keep the GOP out of national office for a long, long time.
That has been debunked, R10. Immigrants contribute more than they cost which anyone who has a fair mind could tell by how hard they work. Immigrants are not coming for benefits. The are coming to build a better life for their families, just like previous waves of immigrants.
Jeb Bush will be the next president because:
1. He knows how to steal an election
2. There are millions of stupid Republicans who will vote for him
3. There are ignorant people like R5-R7 and R9 who assume that there is no need to campaign against Bush because "He will be raped every night if he announces his candidacy."
They figure if they don't like a person, place or thing, it will cease to exist. Sadly, reality does cease to exist in their fantasy world. They don't want to know that Target is still donating money to hate groups, Chick-Fil-A's business is booming despite the gay boycott, and Exxon-Mobil is making billions in profits while allowing discrimination against gay employees.
R13's breasts are overly firm this time of month. Please respect her boundaries.
Translation: Republicans will not be able to win future elections unless we get the "immigrant" vote.
[quote] Immigrants contribute more than they cost
Those that work with fake or stolen social security numbers, often provided by their employers, with or without the immigrant's knowledge, contribute to the SS system without there being any expectation of the worker's collecting on the back end. The current half-measures in place about "verifying" foreign-born workers are a joke.
It reminds me of one of the other dirty little secrets about federal budgeting that I learned from a professor who had worked on Social Security as a staffer to a Congress member. He told us not to expect any really robust federal program to reduce tobacco use; smokers dying earlier than nonsmokers is factored in to the Social Security and Medicaid equations, and always has been.
He thinks Europe doesn't have immigrants?
There will never be a legitimate debate on this, because the right wants to engage in racist scare tactics about "the brown people" and the left are falling for the cheap labor and nonexistent benefits being presented under the "building a better life in the good old USA" routine, while big business profits.
Neither point of view comes off particularly bright.
What r18 said.
R18 is confused. It is not the Left that wants cheap labor. And what is wrong with the "building a better life in the good old USA" routine? Why do you think immigrants come here?
The Left's concern is based on seeing immigrants as individuals much like ourselves. We know history.
The right has always had an invading enemy to scare the troops.
In the 1920s they told people the new Holland Tunnel was a secret passage to the Vatican to facilitate the Pope's takeover of America.
Funny how China, with a long standing one child policy, has managed 7-10% growth annually for an entire generation.
I don't see how Jeb Bush could make such a public statement if he really wants Repub votes. The Tea Party wants to tighten up immigration and benefits.
R21, The restrictions on childbirth are focused on those who live in the big overpopulated cities, and do not apply to the outlying farming communities.
So will there ever be a time when more and more population is not viewed as economically desirable? The earth is finite, no? Growth can't go on forever.
R20 I'm not confused, thank you very much. I simply see how both sides use this issue to their own advantage.
Let's be honest. Do you really think this country is pushing the use of the Spanish language so hard simply out of their goodness of their own hearts?
Nothing wrong with wanting to come to the US to better yourselves. It is the American dream. But can you really say the government is truly doing everything in the power to ensure that illegal immigrants get the absolute best they can get?
You know history. Well then you should already be familiar with the treatment of various minorities and immigrants throughout it. The penchant to keep them "Dumbed down" to further business. The poor immigrants who worked in sweatshops for pennies, afraid to speak out against their bosses out of fear and grateful to get what little they got. You think all of that went out with Jacob Riis?
"They contribute more than they cost". Your words, not mine. We've just gotten better at masking things over the years.
[quote]Do you really think this country is pushing the use of the Spanish language so hard simply out of their goodness of their own hearts?
Which country are you speaking of, because I see no effort in this country where they use of Spanish is being "pushed".
Nonetheless, R23, China has managed rapid economic growth with very little population growth.
Jeb Bush will have a great chance in winning the nomination. If Obama isn't impeached, the country will run back to a Bush.
China has over a billion people. I wouldn't call that very little population growth. China's economic growth was due to the corrupt Western nations (especially US) destroying their own industrial base and sending jobs to China for cheap labor.
Increased immigration is pushed to lower wages and to divide the population, so the 1% can maintain and increase their power and wealth.
Jeb managed to piss off everyone with his comment. The Republican base is horrified by the thought of Latinos reproducing in large numbers, and Democrats and Latinos are insulted by his racial insensitivity. He's finished.
Even if by some miracle he got the nomination, he'd have to trot out Dubya to campaign for him, which would only remind voters how much they don't want another Bush in the WH. Dubya will be tied around his neck like a giant, quacking albatross. That's why Barbara doesn't want him to run.
Chess game. The R's are trying to impress Latinos right at the moment. It's an off year so they can do that.
R32, If I were Latino, I would be very insulted by that statement.
R32, He just insulted Latinos. How would they be impressed by that?
[quote]Translation: Republicans will not be able to win future elections unless we get the "immigrant" vote.
This is it exactly.
Start courting them now. Tell them how wonderful and necessary they are, and get busy with those eating-arroz-con-pollo photo ops... and you can fall asleep counting those votes.
China has a huge pre-existing supply of cheap labor, particularly unemployed rural people moving to the cities. This allows for high economic growth without immigration or population growth. Are you really too stupid to understand this?
Apparently people are too stupid to understand this. It's too bad, since it's a fairly simple concept, but there we are. Comparing the US population/economy to China's is an idiot's game.
In any event, Jeb Bush's candidacy is a non-starter. He has this recurring fever dream that W didn't steal his chance at the presidency and fuck it up. Sadly, W *did* steal Jeb's shot and Jeb will never, ever be president.
W fucked the "Bush legacy" so hard, that bitch won't walk right for decades.
