That song is a fucking mess. Sounds too much like the Marvin Gaye song it's stolen from. It just sounds like a shitty version of Got to Give it Up.
Good for him.
For some reason I enjoyed the more misogynist version with titties bouncing all over the place.
He has a few vocal tricks that are over-played in this song. Perhaps, he'll expand. Pink did the same thing when she first started.
Peaking late. Good for him.
It's #1 in several countries. It's also gone platinum here in the states. This is clearly his biggest hit.
R1 Well, what's new? White guys ripping off blacks and them getting the success. It never changes.
Bitch be old. Isn't he 40?
I used to LOVE his daddy. What a furry hottie!
That wasn't Robert Goulet?
There's no "song" there! Wtf It sounds like random melodies thrown in together. I'm not an oldie either. I just don't hear a cohesive song.
Good for him after Timberlake stole his sound in his comeback single.
It seems good enough for many people out there. I haven't heard it yet, but I did hear one of his songs a few years ago and didn't hate it. He sounds okay, not quite what I like, but not bad. Good for him. His wife (still married???) is scrumptious. Do/did they have chirruns, anyone know or care to look it up (no, I don't).
R1 is right. When it came on the radio I thought it actually was a fucked up version of Give It Up.
I saw Robin Thicke do this song on a crappy tv show and, somehow, I liked it. It's built on Marvin so maybe that's not so weird. Just curious, does Thicke always have meth sweats? He looked like Whitney up there.
Right, not what I expected... Thanks, R14.
I like him a lot more than Timberlake. I don't mind the song-
Is this the video where almost 4 mins in there's a sign that says "Robin Thicke has a Big Dick"?
Yes, R19, in the uncensored version. The uncensored version also has that scene where his back is to the camera and he's swiveling his hips from side to side.
Is she still married to the manly-looking black wife?
R21 Please! She is gorgeous and not manly-looking at all. You're just angry he's with a good-looking black woman instead of a plain-looking white girl. Sorry to inform you, but not everyone is attracted to white people.
Paula Patton is neither black nor manly looking.
Interesting, Robin Thicke has a crush on Cheryl Cole (white girl) in the UK. Mmmhmm.
[quote]Robin, who’s currently at number one with Pharrell Williams’ tune Blurred Lines, told listeners about his major crush, admitting: "You know who’s pretty hot who I didn’t know much about until recently – Cheryl."
[quote]Not done with talking up the 29-year-old, Robin went on to add: "She’s a sexy thing."
[quote]Interesting, Robin Thicke has a crush on Cheryl Cole (white girl) in the UK. Mmmhmm.
So what? If you want to know another interesting fact, Cheryl Cole mostly dates black men (her first husband was black and her current boyfriend is black).
[quote]The bitches on MTO (black gossip site) think she's a tranny & call her manly looking. FWIW.
That's because unfortunately women are jealous cunts when it comes to mixed women: the black ones are jealous because they're light skinned and can actually grow their own hair, and the white women can't stand that mixed women have natural tans and can't stand when a white guy would rather have a mixed woman than a plain white girl.
Sad all the way around.
[quote]Paula Patton is neither black nor manly looking.
She is half black. And she is sexy as all get-out. They both sizzled in Robin's "Love After War" video (the song came out last year and was so good but didn't get the attention it deserved)...
OMG - I forgot that Gloria Loring was his mom. LOL! I couldn't stand her voice or her acting.
I don't know but after watching the video and their appearance on Graham Norton the other day it appears that Pharell Williams is the gayest little thing ever.
I like the song, but he copies Justin Timberlake too much, and it does sound like "Got to give it up". The video is very filthy with topless models walking about.
I don't know what Robin was thinking, but I still like him.
Oh, r37, please....Robin has been doing this schtick for years before Justin decided to rip him off.
Paula and Robin have been together since the age of 14. Isn't that crazy?! Their son is gorgeous!
I find it odd that their son has white yellow hair. Usually dark genes predominate, and Robin isn't blonde either.
r29 she's had tons of work done, did she get her eyes done too?
Thicke's father is a kinky bastard and on his third marriage. In April, his current mother-in-law was arrested for having her husband killed in Bolivia.
Julian kind of looks like his grandma Gloria Loring. Is she a natural blonde?
I think his wife is stunning. I love interracial couples...they make me happy.
Haha! I've always thought that, R36. He's looking old now, too.
You all do know that Pharell is 40(!) right?
Sometimes it's such a drag being above the lowbrow mainstream.
Wish Timberlake would go away and that Robin could get his material.
I hate when guys, especially white guys sing falsetto. So uncool.
R37, Robin Thicke was singing like he does before Justin Timberlake came on the scene as a single musical artist.
Robin Thicke is NOT copying Justin Timberlake.
It's basically Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up done terribly wrong.Add in Pharrell and the supposed street cred inherent even makes it worse.
I'm probably the only person on the planet that hates Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye but I do. To me, it was one of his worst songs. THIS song sucks even harder.
[quote]he copies Justin Timberlake too much
Bitch, please. It's the other way around. Justin completely stole his current suave, suit-n-tie-wearing, slick-haired gentleman image right from under Robin.
Prince called...he wants his 20yo B-side back.
Meh. I think I'll wait for the Willam Belli version. The good news is that Pharell Williams can "cross over" for that one too.
I thought that Alan Thicke dated a lot of black women, but it seems that he has only married white women? I know that he and Bill Mahers used to hang out a lot, and shared black women....probably 10-15 years ago.
Didn't Bill Maher go back to white women for a while? Well, no longer, he's got a gorgeous swirly gf now.
the brunette in the unrated vid is STUNNING, I like the song and yes Justin TOTALLY ripped off Robin Thicke.
I find Robin hot - so who know if he does have a big dick?
[quote] I find Robin hot - so who know if he does have a big dick?
Supposedly this video is making fun of all the hip-hop video cliches - including the sign in balloons - but I'd rather think it's true. Robin's hot!
This was so obviously going to soar to #1 in the US especially. Would never have noticed the "Got to Give it Up" sample.. and I know that song quite well, Marvin and Aaliyah's version. I never really liked it, but love this.
I can see Robin is sexy from the video but he don't do it for me. Oddly I like his clone father though, who seems to have some sugar in his tank.
Pharrell does indeed flame off the charts in this vid and knowingly so.. it seems that the "Blurred Lines" also meant blurred sexuality, the way he was stepping back and forth with TI - rumours he was raped in prison a la 2Pac. Pharrell is supposedly engaged or something and a ladies man but if he is a bit gay I can only imagine how many people in the industry who had him. He was rumoured to have broken up Britney and Justin.
I most love the contrast between Thicke's sub-Prince falsetto which so works here and that deep voice which I assumed was another black featured guest. Funny he's breaking through at such a late stage, George Michael had already released his "Older" album by this age.
[quote]Oddly I like his clone father though, who seems to have some sugar in his tank.
I'll say! It's clear Alan wanted to fuck gay bodybuilder Bob Paris in this old clip. He's touching him and getting all hot 'n bothered.
Seems that every year there's a dumb, can't-get-it-out-of-my-head summer song. "Macarena" and "Call Me Maybe" come to mind, but I'm sure there are more. Here's a twink version. They're all fat. I know.
r71, shit just got very real.
I read about this, but I still don't understand what Thicke & co. think they'll accomplish by a preemptive strike.
The Gaye family said they were considering legal action, but never filed. There is another song involved too (Funkadelic, I think).
BTW, Am I the only one sick of Pharrell Williams' over rated ass and camera mugging?
I preferred this when Marvin Gaye did it and it was called Got To Give It Up.
Of course, Marvin's version is so superior to this you wonder why people have paid any attention to Blurred Lines at all. It shows how little people know about music and that little titties sell.
[quote]"Macarena" and "Call Me Maybe" come to mind, but I'm sure there are more.
Oh I hate Macarena (novelty song, albeit with cultural cache) but Call Me Maybe is genius pop a la Baby One More Time.
Blurred Lines is a bit different in that it's very r&b, especially for a white artist.
I shall have a look at other summer songs, they aren't springing to mind. I think damn Katy Perry's Cali Girls was one.
An uninspired, overly repetitious Marvin Gaye ripoff. Yawn.
Remember when plagiarised songs could still be catchy and somewhat original on their own merits ("My Sweet Lord" comes to mind)?
Marvin Gaye-still the best.
Robin Thicke could never do this:
Where did your MA in Musical Theory come from R74? The Helen Keller School?
Robin Thicke wouldn't have preemptively sued if he knew there was any merit to the copyright infringement claim. He would have laid low and begged for mercy once he lost.
Funny how it's been at number 1 for 2 months and only now after the lawsuit are all these apparently tone-deaf commenters online coming out of the woodwork to claim it's sampled. If it's so obvious, why did none of the music experts and journalists who have discussed this song for months notice? You think you know better than they do?
Marvin is the best male singer of all time, but I never liked Got to Give It Up.
Anyway, so is Cunty Perry assured of knocking off "Blurred Lines" from the top? Her sales are formidable.. but Robin's airplay points are unprecedented and he's still selling by the bucketload.
r80, this was talked about in the black press from the beginning of the song's run. Many commenters were talking about it.
What is and is not copyright infringement is not always clear.
If anyone in their camp was concerned, they would not have "laid low", they would have negotiated a fee. This is done all the time, especially in hip-hop. A$AP Rocky's full length was delayed because of it.
I suspect the difference here might be that Williams hired musicians to play it and over-produced it in order to avoid payment.
I liked that 'Magic' song.
Sing it louder!
R80, I'd call you a cunt but you're more of a gash.
How can Thicke and the people who worked on "Blurred Lines" claim that the beat is NOT a fucking ripoff of "Got To Give It Up"? Yes, they added a couple of extra things to it, but the backing track is the SAME. Fuck that poser Thicke. It annoys me that so many people don't know that song by Gaye.
r86, I just listened to them back to back and it sounds like Williams took the bass line and punched out the higher intervals. The drums are similar, too, but Gaye has more bottom.
The Gaye song has a more sophisticated bass line.
The vocal range is ridiculously similar, as well as the bass.
I think you'd have to hear the all the studio tape on it to judge how it developed.
It is very, very close.
Other than the bass line, the songs sound nothing alike to me.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
