The blue of the lake depends on how blue the sky is that day. I spent many a summer there in my youth. Lucky me.
When my dad came back from World War II - a POW in Nazi Germany for a year - he spent a month there in a cabin down at the lake. He has seen some and experienced some horrific things. He says the lake saved him. It has always been a special place for us. We always had a photo of Lake Tahoe in our house. But it always was "the lake" not Lake Tahoe.
The development that was allowed there though is a shame. And there's a real problem with run off.
yes it is R1
That's good to know, R3. I lived away from CA for many years but recall much talk about its problems when I left in the late '80s. I returned a few years ago. I kept seeing "Keep Lake Tahoe Blue" bumper stickers in my area and thought there were still ongoing problems. I'll take them as indication of positive impact instead.
I rented a cabin up there for a few years during the ski season. I like Lake Tahoe but it's kind of a lonely place if you're by yourself, which I was. Beautiful though. The drive up is very nice. The lake is too cold to ever go swimming or water skiing. In the springtime it is ringed by snow-capped mountains.
I've lived there (Zephyr Cove) for years. It's just about the most beautiful place I've ever been. You can still see the bottom of the lake, when it's calm, for about 200 yards out. Only thing that sucks is the water is sooo cold for too long. Great tho if you have a boat.
Larry Ellison's compound is for sale for a mere $28.5 million.
If people are still fighting the fight, R11, one might reasonably conclude that there are issues still.
There is or was a little nude beach called Secret Cove on the Nevada side down a long descending trail. I used to spend every Monday up there (my day off) when I lived in Reno in the 90s. It was heaven on earth.
Doesn't make sense to me r13. I don't comment on the physical beauty or personal aspects of something unless I have been there to see for myself.
R12 Don't the Finger Lakes cause congenital deformities?
Lake Louise is prettier because it has such a heavy load of silt, giving it a green color.
Tahoe is very beautiful as long as you're not looking at the ugly over-development.
I alway wanted to take a lake tour so I could see the site where they filmed Michael Corleone's compound.
Sadly, they told me those tours were halted for 'privacy'. Pfft, I still wanted to see it.
I was thinking of backpacking the Tahoe Rim Trail this summer.
I was thinking of rimming the backpacker on the Tahoe Trail this summer.
Haven't been for many years.
I miss it so.
Well, thanks R11/15 for taking the effort to let me know how you feel.

Did someone say blue?
I hope you hike the trail, you'll love it.
Beautiful lake, surrounded by serious mountains, hiking, skiing, and casinos. I visit several times a year, but I wouldn't call the most beautiful place in the US, or even in the Sierras.
Boating and fishing enthusiasts may differ.
