..... seems like there's a lot of new stuff out .... and none of it looks all that great.
What is a recent horror movie you've seen that you reoommend ??
I'm up for anything that is original and scary.
"The Evil Dead" remake was bloody fun.
"Sinister" from last year was pretty creepy, though the ending was kind of a letdown.
"The Divide" is more post-apocalyptic thriller than straight-up horror, but is pretty horrifying nonetheless. Messed with my head for days after seeing it.
"Insidious" was enjoyably weird.
The Big Wedding was surprisingly enjoyable light fluff despite the critical pans. Deniro, Keaton, Heigl, and Sarandon were in top form.
Evil Dead was great.
I saw the remake of "The Evil Dead." They tried to make it interesting, but it wasn't. It was just very over the top bloody and gory. I really didn't give a fuck about the stupid junkie girl. The first one was better and for its time it really was a different, original horror movie. And the ending was MUCH better.
MAMA and EVIL DEAD are must-see horror flicks recently.
I also greatly enjoyed THE COLLECTION and TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D.
Both of them are really good revenge porn and better than most of the predecessors in their franchises.
The Collector and The Collection are great.
Insidious is genuinely scary at points. Sinister I found to be really disappointing and seemed to recycle many elements from Insidious.
Some of the segments in V/H/S were excellent, some were terrible. Worth checking out though.
I found that it ran out of steam quite early, but many critics gave Maniac great reviews.
The Collection, while bloody, is just too over the top. Seriously, where the hell does this guy get the time, money, access, etc to pull these elaborate traps? Ridiculous. And please stop trying to make "Insidious" happen. It looks like it was filmed in somebody's gargage and was about as scary as my last dump. The Evil Dead was good but ridiculously bloody and not very scary.
Le Collecion was good.
I just saw "Texas Chainsaw" on DVD today, R7, and I can say that, without a doubt, you are an idiot. Single handedly the worst horror movie of the last 5 years-horrible acting, lousy effects, ridiculous story and plot holes big enough to drive a truck through. It should have been marketed as a comedy.
Terrifying documentary: "I was Yasir Arafat's Barber"
Insidious is great...creepy and reminiscent of Poltergeist.
Mama was good too.
The first two thirds of Insidious was great. Then it all fell apart.
Someone recently mentioned the movie Dark Water on another thread. Sounds really, really creepy. Has anyone seen it? Any good? It's next only list.
Cabin in the Woods was a lot of fun. Not super scary, but fun nonetheless.
[rec]3 was pretty good. Better than the 2nd.
Evil Dead was...icky. But I love that they used mostly practical effects over CGI.
I agree with the 2/3 good Insidious.
Was Woman in Black any good?
Here's a list of horror films from 2012. Pretty meagre assortment:
Woman in Black was horrible, R16. If you are at all a fan of the play (which I am) you will be really disappointed.
Just watched SINISTER last evening. Pretty grim stuff overall. Those super 8 films of the killings were relly creepy.
The filmmakers made the mistake of focusing almost exclusively on Ethan Hawke's character at the expense of a few others. Had they fleshed out a few of the other parts better, the ending would have been even more effective.
But the film is pretty damn effective anyway.
Bump. More horror please...
Is World War Z any good? I really hate Brad Pitt but I love zombie apocalypse movies and Mireille Enos is tolerable. I'd forego my distaste for Bad Shit for a good zombie thriller.
What's the verdict on WWZ?
Insidious 2 is AMAZING
Cabin in the Woods was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in any genre. Top five.
R23, was it better than the first (which I thought was super scary until the end).....
r22, I saw "World War Z" when it was in theaters and had a great time. You could tell they'd edited a lot of the gore out to get a PG-13 rating but apparently the unrated Bluray restores much of what was cut. Definitely worth a rental at least.
"The Conjuring" was very creepy and intense. Nicer performances from Lili Taylor and Vera Farmiga plus Patrick Wilson in snug 70s jeans.
"You're Next" was also a lot of fun. A shame it flopped at the box office. Just a nice twist on the home invasion genre.
I have a small role in a horror/psychological thriller which just got released on DVD in the UK called "Devoured".
The few reviews so far have been excellent. Has anyone in the UK seen it? It played at last year's Horror Festival in NYC, but I missed it.
The lead is a sensational actress Marta Milans, and I think she will be very big. I'd love to know if anyone sees it what they think.
