Great movie. And, yes Heath Ledger troll, he was amazing in this.
"Dogtown and Z Boys" was the documentary, dumbshit. "Lords of Dogtown" was the movie. And the documentary was much more interesting.
Yes, docs are generally more interesting but I thought the movie was sweet. It had a lot of heart. It captured the era better than many other movies. Heath was great. When you see interviews with the real Skip, he became him. The kids who played the Z Boys were excellent. Stacy Peralta did a good job with the script and I liked the Sid scenes. In the doc, he was just "a kid we knew who was dying of brain cancer so his rich dad let us drain the pool and skate it". Now maybe he was a composite character but it was a good choice. The movie was well directed and I thought Rebecca DeMornay did a nice job as an aging California girl who doesnt have her shit together.
