OP here. Thanks for your suggestions. When we met one friend had heard that Gene's on 11th Street was "excellent." It looks like a 1950s film noir set. Prix Fixe lunch $22.95. Average food. When we left there were 28 patrons, all grey or bald. My friends want to go back.
Phipps Fountain and Tea Room, the village location on Charles St. Their food always tastes so different, I don't know what they do to it?
