How soon are films/music forgotten?

I think films/music have a certain shelf-life before they go out of popularity completely because as times change, people change as well. In my experience, an average film has about 10 good years before no one but the [italic]older[/italic] (the generation that liked the film aged) likes it. I don't like all films from the 1990's save for the Titanic which was released at the very end of the decade. Thoughts?
