What's the opinion on treadmills? Do you have one at home?
I use one in the gym 3x a week. Pavement is too punishing, especially at 58.
The Cybexes we have are terrific.
5'8", 140 lbs.
I've thought about getting one at home but they take up a lot of room. I prefer to run outside but I use the treadmill at the gym all winter.
My treadmill is a killer and it's not even one of those top of the line models, but it really gives you a workout. I always feel like I'm about to die on the thing but I can't stop using it.
I just hopped off my mill after a half hour fast tread. I love it. I can get on it anytime I feel the need for some treading.
I have lost a considerable amount of weight in the past year and a half by using it 6 days a week. I can adjust the speed and really work up a sweat when I feel like it.
Got it on sale about 3 years ago so it has paid for itself in weight lost and overall healthy improvement.
Oh and this one folds up when not in use so it really doesn't take up that much room. It's a Pro-Form Crosswalk 415.
r4, here. The treadmill I have is very quiet, not noisy at all. Anyway, fuck the neighbors. If I have to listen to their many loud fights at 3/4 in the morning, they can put up with my "noise" at 3/4 in the afternoon.
Fucking heteros! (They're ugly and fat too.)
Treadmills are too much of a metaphor for my life.
Treadmills ruin knees. Get an elliptical.
I get bored on the treadmill. Bad for knees too.
Treadmill? You mean that expensive thing my hubby bought to hang his laundry on?
Treadmills are stupid when ellipticals exist.

You're running on a conveyer belt. Aside from sturdier construction and easier user-interface, I can't really see how models would really differ that much.
Treadmills shape your body and help you lose fat in a way ellipticals never will.

Stop that. Stop trying to make "mill" and "tread" happen.
Be advised that this is your first and last warning.
R18 is telling you NOW so he doesn't to tell you THEN.

Treadmills don't "shape your body". They provide a cardio workout and might build muscle on your legs and butt, but they do nothing to "shape" your upper body. You will melt fat but it won't build or "shape" any muscles above your waist. You need weight training to shape your body.
Ellipticals burn more calories and are much healthier for your joints. No shin splints, either, and I burn far more calories with far less pain after. Running is hell on aging bones and joints.
Buy used. Seldom are they put to use more than a dozen times.
