Why did Celine Dion just disappear from the charts?
I don't get why we don't hear her on the radio anymore. She's not that old, and she's genuinely talented.
Because, gladly, what happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas!
She hasn't released much in recent years. She does her Vegas show part of the year which gives her time to raise her kids. Her last English album was in 2007 but she's supposed to release a new one in October - maybe you'll hear her on the radio then.
Because her husband is a rapist
I'm trying to think of a current radio format that would play her music.
Her type of music is not hip today. She's Adult Contemporary. She's also too old.
It wasn't hip ever. But they still played her.
R5 is close. The music landscape changed, and she didn't/couldn't adapt.
She lost her voice. Her Vegas shows are lip synched.
Her career peaked with the Titanic song, and tapered off rather quickly. Her last top 40 song was in 2002. Her albums still peak high but probably drop off the chart fast with no radio support. She had her run, and I won't miss her. Her voice was overrated, she often sounds terrible live, and being ugly and not too bright doesn't help either.
R10 = Barbra
[quote]It wasn't hip ever
It was mainstream. She came at a time of Whitney, Mariah, Toni, etc owned the charts.
1. She is only a singer, she doesn't create the music. she just regurgitates songs other people write.
2. She is too old, there are thousands of younger and prettier singers in the market now.
Her time came and went. She sold over 100 million records in the 90s and made a fortune. She can still pull in the crowds in Vegas and make many more millions without killing herself on tour or worrying about her sales.
The recording industry is dead.
Agree with R18.
The type of music she makes will always be popular and not "hip" or reliant on trends so I don't see why she can't make another hit record and be on top of the charts again.
Because we live in a day and age where in order to be successful, you have to have a shitty voice that's autotuned to the max.
Why ask why? Just enjoy it.
I don't think there is any (reasonable) doubt that Celine Dion is an enormously talented singer, and as good as any other diva of the past or present. Still, her style has ALWAYS skewed older. Even when she 19 she was not singing pop music, she was singing 'adult contemporary'.
She rakes in an enormous fortune and will continue to do so for as long as she wants. I'm sure she's not losing sleep over the fact that Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are higher on this week's pop chart.

Yeah, right. I cannot stand the sound of her voice. And who is the moron who says she doesn't Autotune her voice? I am going to laugh at you for the rest of the day. And that's [italic]at [/italic] you, not [italic]with[/italic] you.
People got tired of her cacophonous shrieking while pounding her chest.
God, you people and your stupid theories. The real reason is that she chose to focus on creating and raising a family. After several years of failed attempts, she finally got pregnant with her first child via in-vitro and gave birth to him in early 2001. He's the reason why she chose not to tour anymore and instead settled in one place (Vegas) and a schedule that would allow her to be a full-time mom during the day. Then years later she had twins.
She quit at the top of her game. If I were her (she was only in her early thirties), I would've ridden the wave for as long as I could, but she made family/kids her priority. No doubt her star would've faded eventually as she got older and younger, fresher singers arrived on the scene, but her career didn't stop because of changing times/music. She chose to leave while she was still hot.
R25 "Cacophonous shrieking." Yes, that's it.
Because none of her songs had the phrase "lick ma boo-tay". Styles changed, and pop anthem divas like Whitney and Mariah tried to go all Mary J. Blige and it didn't quite work.
What was Whitney's attempt "to go all Mary J. Blige," R28?
"She is only a singer, she doesn't create the music. she just regurgitates songs other people write."
R16, that's like saying actors are only actors, they don't create the screenplay, they just regurgitate the movies other people write.
Hey, she makes audiences come to see HER, not the other way around. Just who is having the last laugh really? Like it or not, Celine created the template for the current wave of "Residencies" in Las Vegas. Now every tired singer is making lots of $$$ doing them.
No R31 it isn't because that would mean Celine would change genres and personas for each album and/or single. One day she'd be a belting French Canadienne, the next a rapping sista from Queens. Not even Vadge changes that much.
Celine's success depends on her delivering what fans expect.
The most successful movie stars usually stick to one persona, R34.
SHE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES THE GAYS!
R33 Country music has been doing what Celine is doing for years.
r32, Celine always cracks me up in interviews! She's so... strange. But you gotta love her.
Here's another weird/funny interview:
I'm glad the squawking banshee disappeared. Now if only Mariah and Madonna will follow her lead...
No, R38. I don't "gotta love her." Unless by "love her," what you actually mean is "recognize her insipidness." I have to change to another station when she pops up on the radio. So not the "gotta love her" response you were expecting, I'll bet.
I hate everything about her. My older sister used to crank her and Michael Bolton everyday getting ready for school. That being said I always thought she just chose to go away. She looks like a fucking grasshopper.
R41 u are gay and HATE Celine Dion?
You would think that Your sister loving Celine would be something in common with her?
Celine stopped singing live about 10 years ago. Her shows are almost all lip-synced now. The last time I heard her sing live was on Oprah, where she sang a cover of Heart's "Alone" and her voice cracked on the high notes.
Barbra, Aretha, Shirley Bassey, Gladys, Diana, Patti sing every note LIVE.
Where's the evidence that she uses Autotune? I don't buy it. She has a phenomenal voice, just (like Whitney) not much intelligence in how she sings.
They certainly do, R35.
She disappeared because many were questioning her lies of Rene being the father to little Rene. Nobody is spared on the internet and she's smart enough to realize this and quietly disappear. You can't spin your image anymore like you could years ago. Having a funny looking face and being speared by Kathy Griffen sure didn't help. She got tired of reading about her long face shape and creepy relationship with Rene who is not the father of her son. He also has a big gambling habit.
Google "Celine Dion autotune" R45.
Because she's good but she's not Barbra Streisand.
Because I am NOT DEEE besss sinGAH in the hole world.
So stop interrupting me every time I sing "Feelings"
I saw her in Vegas about 6 months ago and the video screens only show her up close maybe 4 times the whole show. I assumed b/c she was lip-syncing. Although, I've been to Mariah concerts and the sync track is noticeably different than the live track, it was barely noticeable for Celine. I imagine she can still sing, but with 3 kids if she can get away without having to do it she will. Kind of surprising since she seems to love the act of singing.
She doesn't require autotune, and that's all there is, anymore.
Because my cat's queefs are more melodic than her voice.
She will ALWAYS have the Francophone market (Her last french album `Sans attendre` was a smash last fall in France).
R43, I saw Diana Ross a couple of years ago at Radio City Music Hall and she did lipsynch one song in the middle of the show: What About Love (the song from Color Purple, not a cover of the Heart song).
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
