Substituting for Savannah Guthrie - looks like NBC made a huge mistake not going with Hoda. She's doing great!
Yes, Hoda is really good and her laughter and good humor is not forced.
She was loved in New Orleans when she was on WWL. It's odd to me that NBC has never really used her for serious news.
Is she drinking?
NBC has been totally misusing Hoda's talent as a reporter and interviewer by putting her with booze-hound Kathie Lee. She should be permanent co-host of Today with a hard news reporter to replace Matt Lauer.
Hoda is both smart and very quick to adjust to any situation. If the Today show values being able to interview heads of state and then switch into a silly cooking or decorating segment, Hoda would be perfect. Plus she's a truly nice, down-to-earth, unaffected person.
Perhaps NBC has finally figured out they've had the anti-Lauer under the noses for a while.
I am a Savannah Guthrie fan, but I agree that Hoda is totally killing it.
They probably didn't give her the job in the first place because the fourth hour is so heavily branded Kathie Lee and Hoda—they didn't want to risk losing that profit pocket on top of everything else.
And whoever was going to sit in Ann Curry's seat was going to be hated. Hoda actually lucked out.
I wonder if they could move to a five-person crew from 7am-9am, including Hoda, then give her a break from 9-10 before she resurfaces to pick up Kathie Lee's brain droppings at 10.
Do any of you people have jobs? The View; The Talk; the morning shows... somehow you get to see everything.
I imagine we're as employed as you, R7, since you're posting on DL at 3pm Eastern time.
Poor thing... she's do for surgery soon: a vowel transplant for her last name.

She was "Kotbe" for a while, not unlike Miss Warwicke.
Hoda in a New Orleans sweetheart. Beloved indeed, R2. She comes back and does charity stuff. For Katrina. For all kinds of things.
I liked Guthrie before they axed Curry for her. Now she's trying too hard to be liked and she comes across as phony. She wasn't like that before.
Savannah seems unnerved by all the psychodrama. There's a marked difference in her performance between now and when she started—at first, she was a fun breath of fresh air, and now she seems upset or overwrought.
She does relax when Willie's hosting instead of Matt.
I wouldn't mind Natalie Morales departing. The woman has the wit of an eggplant.
Hoda and Lester or Willie would be great. Christ Lester and anyone would work. Linda Blair? Sure!
Not long ago I was in a store and saw an older woman approach Hoda and say something like, "You're famous, aren't you? I know you. What do you do?"
Hoda explained that she was on NBC with Kathie Lee and had written a book. She was very sweet and kind of amused by it. Also - gorgeous in person.
Hoda actually has enough personality and talent to make Matt Lauer look like an amateur. HE was the one who seems lost. I will never warm up to Savannah and not because she replaced Ann Curry. Natalie has not looked happy the past couple of days.
And yes, R7. I am fully employed. I leave my house at 8 AM to get to my job for 8:30 AM.
Hoda is too old to be the co-host.
She was lucky enough to have fondled Drew Brees' ass with his wife's permission.
R17, I don't think Hoda is too old to host at all.
[quote]Poor thing... she's do for surgery soon: a vowel transplant for her last name.
You advising anyone on how their name should be spelled is like someone getting advice on natural-looking plastic surgery from Joan Rivers.
The producers want the co-hosts to have sexual tension which is why Hoda and Matt will never happen.
Hoda has wit and personality. Of course NBC went with the boring white girl.
[quote]The producers want the co-hosts to have sexual tension which is why Hoda and Matt will never happen.
Remember that 4-year period in the 80s when "Today" went by the name "Moonlighting"?!
Natalie Morales: 40
Savannah Guthrie: 41
Hoda Kotb: 48
Ann Curry: 56
Katie Couric: 56
Meredith Vieira: 59
Ruh-roh! Savannah might want to ask Ann for advice...
Hoda's getting raves!!!
This all feels like a coded threat to Lauer: shape up; you're not irreplaceable.
I hope they do move Hoda to a hosting role on Today; she's far too good to be stuck in the Kathie Lee Chardonnay hour. I wonder what a Savannah/Hoda Today show would be like?
Hoda has too much talent to be stuck with Kathie Lee.
Kathie Lee is moving the final hour show to California, The Today Show is testing Hoda for the earlier programing because is not moving to LA with Kathie Lee.
Savannah Guthrie is under contract. She's not going anywhere.
By the way, get rid of Matt Lauer.
Crazy idea! Two women hosts.
That was the setup on GMA before Diane Sawyer left.
I noticed Natalie was in for Hoda today...Kathie Lee to LA? What about Cody and Frank? Will they have to leave Greenwich?
I don't want Kathie Lee and Hoda split up!
R31 Frank probably doesn't know where he is anyway.
[quote]What about Cody and Frank? Will they have to leave Greenwich?
Cody isn't in Greenwich. He went to California to escape from this mother.
Savannah has a contract. Oh, then she's definitely staying up r29.
Kathie Lee Gifford is top billed on the fourth hour of Today
Hoda is better than everyone on all the hours of Today. They should just make her and Kathie Lee the hosts of all of it. It's not like it's a very serious news show anyway.
Kathie Lee started her career at Good Morning America as a correspondent and substitute anchor.
How could Hoda possibly be "too old" when Lauer is several years older than she is?
[quote]How could Hoda possibly be "too old" when Lauer is several years older than she is?
The ever present double standard for men and women.
Hoda is only 48? She looks more like 58.
r42 needs an eye exam - even close up in daylight Hoda looks vibrant and fantastic.
She's back in New Orleans today hosting a public education summit meeting for NBC News.
[quote]Kathie Lee started her career at Good Morning America
Kathie Lee started her career as a live-in secretary/babysitter for anti-gay hatemonger Anita Bryant.
Kathie Lee started her BROADCASTING career at Good Morning America
She started her broadcast career on "Name that Tune."
She left "Name That Tune" for stardom in a new TV show "Hee Haw Honeys" - it flopped.
Hoda is very personable, but she actually has a face for radio, to put it charitably. That's the answer to why she's not a permanent co-anchor.
I find Hoda quite attractive - on camera and in person.
[quote]Hoda's talent as a reporter and interviewer by putting her with booze-hound Kathie Lee.
Booze-hound Kathie Lee? Honey, you obviously haven't watched the show. Hoda can drink K.L. right under the table. That girl will have every AA meeting site in Manhattan on speed dial in a few years.
Hoda is an excellent journalist and an outstanding interviewer. She's better than Matt or any of the women on Today. If she takes a drink, it's no wonder when she has to deal with the Gifford bitch.
Hoda has gorgeous feet.
[quote]I wouldn't mind Natalie Morales departing. The woman has the wit of an eggplant.
Hey now, what the hell did we ever do to you?
As a breast-cancer survivor, Hoda should not be drinking.
My friend works at NBC and says the "two Today gals" are ruthless. Specifically he says, "Natalie and Savannah would sell their mothers into white slavery for a spot on the cheerleading squad."
Ruthless how, R56?
r57, very competitive with one another. I went to the "plaza" one day last week to watch the show. Savannah and Natalie worked the crowd like politicians -- never really looking at the people they were talking with. Hoda, conversely, engages strangers and pays attention to what they say to her. S&N look like sisters although Natalie is much shorter. I think casting is all about who Matt wants to fuck.
I can't help it if Savannah is 7' tall.
Her show with Kathie Lee Epstein is really sad. Hoda is one of the best, and then she threw it away. Let's hope she can recover.
R17 = TV executive
I worked with Hoda, and she is very down to earth, intelligent, naturally funny and vivacious person.
The lush Hoda will guest tonight on the season finale of "Hollywood Game Night" on NBC where yes, she admits she's drunk. No wonder she can't keep a man. At least Kathy Lee stays sober when she's visiting someone else's house. Check you local listings.
[quote]At least Kathy Lee stays sober
Ha! She hasn't been sober in more than 15 years.
I've said it here before and I'll say it here again: I can't believe the amount of people who actually buy their flimsy drunk act! They act stupid not drunk. They're like greasy chicks in high school who pretend to get dtunk on a sip of wine cooler just so they might get laid.
Matt Lauer seems to take a lot of time off lately. Is he on his way out?
