Andrew Lloyd Webber 40th Anniversary special on ITV in the UK tonight
Nicole Scherzinger singing "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina," Samantha Barks singing "Another Suitcase In Another Hall," bits of Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, etc.
How was it, UK DLers? Could someone please post a YT link here? Thanks.
How did Nicole Scherzinger get a career in the UK? Is Simon Cowell trying to make her happen?
Having seen her on X Factor USA, where she was awful, she single handedly saved the UK show last year. She didn't have the play the subservient role in Cowell's presence, and she was funny, kind, caring and passionate, and while the show itself was a piece of shit, she was amazing.
She was quite good tonight, gave a good performance. Samantha Barks has been much better doing ALW standards (see her performance of Memory with Rachel Tucker in the I'd Do Anything sing off for a place in the final) but the standout for me was the start of The Bodyguard (I forget her name) singing Memory.
Heather Headley, R2. She was on Broadway in Aida. She's stunning.
I heard Michael Ball got really fat. Cue John Simon...
I'll never forget when he took off his shirt in Aspects of Love when it was on Broadway. He had manboobs which required a manbra. I couldn't believe it. The dude was on Broadway with his shirt off, why didn't he hit the gym in preparation? Or at least lay off the Krispy Kremes.
Michael Ball piled on the pounds supposedly for Hairspray, but he's one of those lardy men who's always battling their weight and saw Edna as the chance to let the diet go and eat all the pies.
Alongside Elaine Paige he's probably the best known musical theatre performer in the UK. His latest album of dreary cover versions looks and sounds fucking shit though.
When Michael Ball played the lead in the original London production of PASSION, he couldn't wait to do the "nude" scene that opens the show. One look at his shirtless torso and Sondheim said NO - HE MUST NEVER SHOW THAT SHAPELESS CHEST AGAIN.
I put the mute button on when Nicole Scherzinger came on. I can't stand her. As for her having a career in the UK? I can't explain it. It seems the trashier the American Celebrity the more the British public loves them.
I'm sure it was DIVINE. Who sang shit from Sunset? Kim
Who the fuck is Patti L?
The Great British Public
The original Fantine at the Royal Shakespeare Company, R9/bitch.
She was in the original production with Michael Balls and Colm Wilkinson and Frances Ruffelle?
Never heard of her.
Michael Ball was rumored to be the BF of Prince Edward years ago....
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
