Do you agree: Weak, unaccomplished individuals will one day have massive downfall psychologically
A weakling, poor or unaccomplished people will inevitably meet something in life that will put them down psychologically or they easily become very sorry people. Do you agree with this?
Well, that certainly happened to me. I have horrible psychological genetics, with so many family members suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. My family is also extremely religious, which in itself is a symptom of mental disease, I've come to believe. I had a complete breakdown 20 years ago, when I was 25, after my first sexual experience with another man, and I've honestly never recovered psychologically, despite years of therapy and meds. The rest of my 20s, entire 30s, and now half my 40s have pretty much been one blurry mass of anxiety and one psychosomatic disorder after another. I feel trapped, and have come to the conclusion that I will live the rest of my life this way. So, OP, your statement definitely applies to me.
Is being weak or unaccomplished in any way tied to horrendously bad grammar?
Versus, psychopaths that rule the world, op?
Define weak and unaccomplished. For the most part, the post is a loaded question.
OP thinks he is not weak and unaccomplished. I think he is both.
R5, I agree. I think someone told him to his face that he is weak and unaccomplished.
One need only look no further than Brandon or PPSM to know it's true.
It's a dumb statement. First of all it is hyper judgmental with a negative view of humanity which is not particularly justifiable. Second it equates poor with unaccomplished and weak, which is libertarian nonsense. Third, it equates lack of resilience with unaccomplished and weak, which is silly. Harper Lee was not resilient but she wrote arguably the best book in American literature. Fourth, it's a sneak attack to try to put the dimwitted childish concept of karma over on us. No, sorry, OP, if you want revenge on the assholes who mistreated you, you're going to have to make it happen. It will not happen of its own accord and if by luck it does happen, it really shouldn't comfort you because there is 100 to 1 against their connecting the two events. Fifth, your idea of psychological downfall makes no sense. What is a psychological downfall? I know a guy who had a psychotic break who went on to have a huge career. On the other hand, I know a bunch of crooks who have sailed through life sneering at everyone else and seem quite happy and think of themselves as unusually good people. Sixth, it is clear from your tone that you and I would never agree on a reasonable definition of "accomplishment." You may think selling your soul for 150K a year is "accomplishment" but I think it sounds like a small reward for a big sacrifice.
Seventh, like most "bon mots," you could say that about anyone you don't like and make it fit.
So, have you really said anything?
"A weakling, poor or unaccomplished people will inevitably meet something in life that will put them down psychologically or they easily become very sorry people. Do you agree with this?"
I seriously hope you are not a native English speaker, OP.
Because I'll tell you what I do believe.
I believe that a person who can't begin to write anything resembling a grammatically acceptable sentence in his own language should resist the temptation to forecast the psychological downfall of the unaccomplished.
"Meeting something in life" that puts a person down psychologically is what leads people to become weak, poor and unaccomplished. Not the reverse.
Sounds dreadful R1. Having sex with one guy when you were twenty-five screwed you up for twenty years? Doesn't that seem a little extreme?
Eighth, life isn't fair and there is no way to make it fair. Society can be more fair, but that takes a lot of political work and will. Overestimation of the agency of the individual will only hinder that process.
God is not punishing you or your enemies OP. Stop acting like you think He is.
I agree OP, fellow sociopath. We knew what to do with undesirables back in my day. "Work will set you free", ha, you wish, sucker.
r12, I had my first (and only) penetrative sexual encounter on July 3, 1993, and have been sick and filled with anxiety ever since. No joke. I experienced a major mental collapse right after, complete with severe panic attacks and unexplained, sometimes debilitating, physical symptoms and issues over the years that could never be explained via a physical exam or blood tests. I've essentially been sick every day for the past 20 years. I've been tested for everything in the book. I thought it was chronic fatigue syndrome, but my doctor ruled that out. I was so desperate at one point I even went to one of the top infectious diseases specialists in the country, and he gave me a clean bill of health. The consensus is that I have a very intense mind-body connection. I really have no friends...I can't make plans, since I never know how I'll feel from day to day. I can't date or have a bf, both because of how I feel and my fear of having penetrative sex again. I don't live life...I just survive from day to day. Fortunately, I am able to work, which has been a great escape. Weight training and finally finding the right mix of meds that has made my anxiety somewhat tolerable have taken the edge off somewhat, but I know whatever this is I have will stay with me for the rest of my life. I used to cry and pity myself all the time. The meds, for good or for bad, have made me numb to sadness (and most other emotions), so I don't feel anything most of the time.
I'm r1, just to be clear.
I absolutely believe SOME social programs (safety nets) are in place to keep a certain subset of the population at a disadvantage. Why bother trying to improve yourself if you can rely on someone else to take care of you? I don't agree with "weak" but do believe certain socioeconomic groups or people who have been unaccomplished are discouraged from advancing themselves through "programs".
WTF, R16. Were you raped?
"Why bother trying to improve yourself if you can rely on someone else to take care of you?"
Typical Republican logic (which usually comes from guys like Romney who never had any need for safety nets because they have had every advantage in life)
Pretty much every first world country has some kind of safety net program for people.
Maybe you want America to be more like a third world country.
OP, are you the same fellow who is afraid of having ANY sexual contact with another man?
Consider this OP. Your thread appears alongside one about Andrew Sullivan. Now it could be interpreted that Andrew Sullivan was just such a weak person who barebacked although he loathed, leading to HIV, exposure, downward spiral, remorse.
But it also could be interpreted as a defense of Andrew Sullivan by jeering at his critics as unaccomplished nobodies who deserve oblivion because they aren't as deserving as this joker.
So you see, your statement can be used by anyone to describe anyone.
