Rihanna's Diamonds Tour Slated By Critics: 'She's A Second-Rate Madonna'
Canadian leg of the global jaunt has not been popular with reviewers
The star is currently performing the Canadian leg of the jaunt, which will take her across the globe in support of her latest LP Unapologetic.
Critics appear to have been left disappointed by the show, despite seeming to praise her previous show Loud.
Writing for the Toronto Sun, Nick Krewen branded her a "second rate Madonna", and the show "little more than a 100-minute hot mess".
He called the choreography "unbelievably sluggish" and RiRi herself "[lacking] any intensity or emotion".
He concluded: "With the Diamonds tour, she comes across as a second rate Madonna and a rather flat one at that. Maybe she needs to take a bit of a hiatus and regroup. When Rihanna did shine, it was thanks to the strength of the song rather than the elation of her performance. And we all know Rihanna is capable of so much more."
Similarly, writing for the Montreal Gazette, Tim Snow was also left a little cold by the show.
"At times, she appeared tired and frequently had to work hard for high notes and volume that she couldn’t always deliver," he wrote.
"Perhaps the most unwittingly telling moment – the one that said most about Rihanna’s incomprehensible fame – came through a quote from someone else’s music. At the end of Rockstar 101 came the iconic synth riff from the Who evergreen 'Won’t Get Fooled Again'.
"Did anyone in the $165 seats feel a shudder of self-recognition?"
RiRi will play the tour's final Toronto date tonight before heading back to the United States for a Detroit gig later this week.
She arrives in the UK in June.
I've never been to one of her shitty concerts, but I've read over and over again that her concerts are boring and that she can't dance.
While most pundits expect the the next world war to be sparked by politics, religion or low resources, the gay apocalypse will occur with queens gathered in teams defending their preferred divas. The nuclear trigger will be some truthful dig that "she's" a washed up no talent copycat wrinkly hag. The banshee screams and Prada heeled group charge will be deafening.
I agree with the critics, she needs to have circus performers to distract people from how boring the music is. Rihanna is vastly inferior to Madonna and her traveling circus.

Who is herself a third-rate Marilyn Monroe.
The only thing Madonna and Monroe have in common is their hair color.
I don't think Madonna ever tried to copy her to any great degree. Maybe her mincing steps and chirpy voice in that horrible movie she did with Penn, but that was more Bettie Boop than MM.
Anyone who fucks, gets assaulted by, and RETURNS to a violent criminal with neck tattoos does not deserve a moment of my time, or that of any sane person.
R7's right, Madonna doesn't copy Marilyn, she copies us.
Let's be honest, Rhianna is closer in talent to a porn star than a global pop superstar.
R7 Uh, you obviously never saw Madonna's "Material Girl" video, which was an exact copy of Marilyn's perfomance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend".
Know what you're talking about
R10 I'm no Rhianna fan, but the same could be said about most of the female pop singers today. Most female pop singers today sadly have little to no talent and rely on sex and gimmicks. You can thank the trashy Madonna who paved the way for the many lousy female pop stars out there today.
Isn't she a princess to the illuminati? That explains it.
Surprising exactly no one.
Being called a second-rate Madonna is kind of a compliment when you're a 20-something pop singer.
Definitely r15, it's always a tremendous compliment to compared to someone who can't sing her way out of a wet paper bag.
That bitch isn't the only to get caught up in the mix!
"Slated" by critics? What the hell does that mean?
At this point she should just get on stage, stick both her hands in her vagina and open wide. She should then say thank you and good night.
So Rihanna got droned by the critics and she never saw it coming. They never do.
This song she's got going now that I've heard on the TV, something about "shines like a diamond" is awful. The bridge in question is so difficult to sing and beyond the vocal capabilities of this girl, that it is sung 10 different ways during the song. She has no vocal control at all.
The popularity of Rihanna should be credited to whoever wrote her songs. They are extremely talented. I couldn't help but like please don't stop the music and we found love. Someone upthread said that Rihanna has the talent of a porn star, he/she is absolutely right. That is all Rihanna has. She can't really sing and doesn't know how to dance at all.
Madonna was pretty big star. What's wrong with being a second-rate Madonna.
Some early dance tracks I could stomach, but I generally don't like Rhianna's music.
We debate whether various pop stars can actually sing. Rhianna really can't sing. But, I really think she knows this.
She's done a great job being a professional celebrity - music, modeling, endorsements, fashionista (she does have a unique look) I think she's lame, but a lot of people eat it up.
I just watched her perf at the Grammys. A co worker had said that she didn't realize what a lovely voice she had.
Indeed, the Grammy performance was pretty good. But was I being fooled? Are live vocal performances usually sweetened? The production did look rather sparse.
