The Pube Report: a global report card
I love pubic hair on guys. And after doing extensive webcam research, I can report to you where natural, gorgeous pubes are still very much a part of male culture.
And now on the podium, are the three winners in the Pube Olympics:
Gold: Argentina. Unspeakably hot men with the most beautifully textured pubes:
Silver: France. Shaving is not big there, and when they're not shaved, the pubes are.
Bronze: Great Britain. There seems to be a great affinity for keeping the dangly bits as is in the British Isles.
Close honorable mentions to Italy and Ireland.
Wearing the pube dunce cap: that would be Germany.
- Oh, and the Congeniality Pube goes to Mexico. Vast pubedom, but the texture is not as lovely as that of Argentina.
- Long distance dedication for you, OP:

My private office will be staffed with recruits from the old country. They will I believe prove to be a great success.

I agree 100%. I'm boycotting all the German-speaking countries till they put down the razors. It's disgusting.
- Dedicated to the OP!

- These are important discussions...it lets the silly shavers know we are laughing at them.
- Any grade for Greek or Turkish men?
- R7, I believe they prefer to be called "Turkey men."
Tom
- What is it with the resentment of civiliztion on this forum?
- It's an old people's thing.
- You are right R10 the only shaved guys I ever see are fat and over 40.
- Its just a bunch of fetishists, R9.
OP, are you the same queen who went to Europe last year and dutifully reported back to us about pubic hair last year. Do you even have any kind of life or this "hobby" your main preoccupation?
- r11, you're a lying sack of shit. The pro body hair people are the oldies and everyone knows it.
- You are funny R13.
- Agree that shave is an over-the-hill thing. Was on vacation in Jamaica during New Years with extended family. Three of my nephews, who live NYC, Boston and Baltimore and in their early-mid 20s and straight, had chest hair and treasure trails. One was getting out of the pool had his bathing suit a little low and you could see pubes. A few days later on the beach grooming came up and I asked why they kept their body hair. The response from one was "shaved bodies are for guys over 35 - like your generation Uncle Tony." Big laugh. Funny thing is, I prefer guys with some body hair, gives the body some character and feels less like a sexless mannequin. If young straight guys have started not shaving then the fad has been over for sometime.
- I like the cave man look of uncircumcised and unshaven, standing in front of their pendulous, pointy, pancake-breasted women.

- I don't know who has the weird agenda in this thread, but you're not fooling anyone. The truth is that the younger you get, the greater percentage who shave (at least in the US). The only bitching about shaving seems to come from the usual older DLers.
- You mixed your metaphor, OP. A medal doesn't indicate a grade, it indicates victory over other participants. A report card indicates a score levied against a standardized baseline or a curve. Please resubmit your post. Thank you.

That's true of the normal population. But I don't think that's what DLers are talking about. They're talking about an extremely tiny subset of the "gay" population. Mostly it's the extremely uptight urban femmy scene. Now among those? Who knows, maybe there's been a recent backlash against shaving. But among the gen population? Absolutely not. There's more male trimming/shaving than ever now.
- It's not primarily an older gay fetish. While most young straight men are completely shaved and sexless, a lot of younger gay men are starting to let it grow.
Twentysomething%20Gay
- I never understand the gay guys on Grindr who demand that all the men who contact them be "masc" and "str8 acting", and completely smooth and hairless like a little girl.
- r22, it's because they, unlike you, don't think of masculinity as a cartoonish extreme. Smooth is not "like a little girl." It's just what normal hot boys look like.
Also, "str8 acting" is code. It means behaving naturally - without affectation. Has nothing to do with heterosexuality. "masc" means the same.
- So, R23, how long does it take to shave all 300 pounds of you?
- I hate shaved pubes, but the posters here who say it's an old guys thing are living in Bizarro World/engaging in wishful thinking.
It's definitey more popular with young guys, gay and straight (at least in Germany where I live, and where, as OP correctly inidcates, it's depressingly ubiquitous).
- What a weirdass response r24. I take it you are on the prissy side and don't like that it's not desired in hookup land.
- There are so many hot guys who perform respectable grooming that your stupid 'fat' assertion is just BS, R24.
Like what you like and let others do likewise. Insisting people have to look and act the way you think is right is what religious wingnuts do.
- Plenty of shaved and waxed French men in the Dieux Du Stade books and calendars.
- Go on Cam4 - about half of the young guys from USA - both straight and gay - are letting their pubes grow. Some close trimmed, others just tidied a little, and some full-on bush. Completely shaved has declined in the past few years. It's heyday is over.
- Probably more will stop since the report came out today that shaving or waxing pubes has been tied to an increase in sexually transmitted diseases.
- I love them au naturel!
Johan
- Girls will not fuck you unless your shaved or extremely trimmed. Girls are expected to have bald puss. Chest hair is a big no no. Elders here are so frigging weird when it comes to this issue. The younger crowd is not going to fuck your lice-ridden bushes.
- R32 stop projecting your fetish onto girls.
- Only old guys shave out in Brooklyn.
- Please cease with the merits/non merits of shaving and return to the topic at hand: the country-by-country differences in male grooming. Thank you.
- [quote]the only shaved guys I ever see are fat and over 40.
No doubt you're living in some retirement community and haven't seen the inside of a gym in ten years.
- R36 Brooklyn and I go to NY Sports daily.
- This is one thread where I would love to see photos of the posters.
- I used to work in a straight swing club and recently returned to help out on New Year's Eve.
The club is in NY.
The pube shaving trend has all but ended among the younger men, there was one I can recall.
But the other posters are correct. When a man starts to get a belly and his cock begins to disappear he shaves to see more of it.
It is a fat 40+ habit.
- Give it a rest r39, nobody honest is buying what you're selling. The older ones are the only ones who have your obsession. Almost all young guys trim or shave. That's just fact. Tiny subsets of urban hipsterprisses aren't relevant.
- Give it a rest R40 we know who you are.
Cling to your story, it is all you have.
- R40 time for your nap grandpa.
- Why is it so important for the hairy freaks to pretend their viewpoint is popular?
- r41/42 you obviously haven't seen any young dick lately. And by lately I'm talking about the last 10 years.
- It's natural
- It is rather creepy that we've got people here who blatantly deny what's true (that most younger guys trim or shave) as if it's terribly important to them to create this idea of a hairy pube trend. If such a trend happens, it happens, but it certainly hasn't happened yet.
- (A little) trimming is ok. Shaved is a dealbreaker. Not into boycocks, thanks.
- Posters like R46 make me imagine a pedo type who wants to create a culture of young men shaving to fuel his fantasy of the pre-pubescent.
The trend is ending guy. Deal with puberty or pay your young prosties to shave it off.
- R42 and R41 reveal themselves by what they're attacking -- I doubt they will admit that they actually see older gay men naked or have interest in checking out their pubes.
I echo what's been said above by the only people who are sane. I only see younger guys doing this. In Sweden we all shower together and no stalls, and no guy in his 30s or older is shaved.
- The ultimate marker of a DL olderly (thinking r48 here) is reflexive reach for "pedo" references whenever discussion moves in a direction he doesn't like (that young people are hot and not like him).
- It's not even remotely in dispute that trimming and shaving are more popular among youth. WTF is wrong with some of you?
- I don't like shaving or even trimming. Truth is when you take off your pants and you are shaved, I put mine back on. Don't give a shit how you feel about that, it is my reality.
- [quote]It's not even remotely in dispute that trimming and shaving are more popular among youth. WTF is wrong with some of you?
They be old.
- If there's a trend, it will probably be guys moving from shaving to close trimming, mostly because shaving is such a pain and causes problems.
- The sniping in this thread is pretty hilarious. These observations are deeply subjective, of course.
I think when it comes to younger men, the crotch shaving/natural divide is somewhat tied to class and education. You're going to be more likely to find plucked crotches among a suburban/exurban/bridge and tunnel/frat boy crowd. The natural bush is more likely to be seen among the urban/hipster/artistic/creative types. The gastropub/craft cocktail/body art crowd. I don't think you're going to find a lot of guys over 18 and under 30 in Park Slope or Silverlake with bare crotches, for instance. See the Tumblr below for the types of guys I'm talking about (NSFW).
You can call that a niche, but it's a highly influential niche in the larger popular culture. Look at a J Crew catalog these days - you'll see hairy bodies on display in a way they certainly weren't even 1-2 years ago.
Now there's no doubt shaving or trimming the crotch was highly ascendant in the U.S. 5-10 years ago. Those trends linger, and it's certainly not hard to find plenty of younger guys with shaved crotches. I also don't doubt a lot of straight guys particularly under 22 or so do so under pressure from girls. But I think it's definitely a trend on the wane.
http://gayhipsterpornblog.tumblr.com/
- A "niche" r55? More like tiny and almost nonexistent. Someone on the last page called them urban hipsterprisses, LOL. Those people will always deliberately separate themselves from whatever they consider "mainstream" becasuse they live their lives solely as a reaction against others. But don't kid yourself that most people care what they think or do in their tiny little hipster bubble.
As long as girls want it trimmed, boys will trim.
Gay boys want it trimmed too. Uh... at least outside the hipsterpriss bubble.
- Whether or not you consider it a small niche, r56, do you deny that look has an outsize influence on current trends in fashion, pop culture etc? And that's where we should look as to where the larger public goes. It's my theory that we can largely thank Queer Eye for the lingering plucked male body trend.
I can tell you I live in Minneapolis and at the Y where I work out, those guys under 30 who venture into the showers (and it's more than you think) almost all have natural or minimally trimmed crotches. These are generally well educated young professionals/creatives, and may be influenced by but are not narrowly within this niche we're talking about.
- The Minneapolis Y? That's like sampling pubes at Lagoon and Hennepin. Not exacltly representative of anyone. Want to see what young people are doing? Go talk to some high schoolers from Eden Prairie, Eagan or Woodbury.
- Sorry man, I don't make a habit of chatting with high schoolers about their pubic hair.
- Also, suburban high schools are where trends go to die. That doesn't disqualify anything I wrote.
- r60, the fact that you believe the real world is so eager to copy hipsters just shows you're not using good judgment. If you're living in the Twin Cities, surely you know that the small crowd in Uptown is not like the 4.5 million people in the metro and never has been. The divide was the same in the '90s as it is now.
Maybe a better thread would have been, "Hipsters no longer shave pubes." Of course I'm not sure they ever did.
- I'm not talking about the Uptown Y. It's the Midtown Y. And the guys are not hipsters. They're just young, educated urban professionals.
- Judging on amateur sites, it's about a 50/50 of kids these days shaving/trimming or natural. Here's a sample from Reddit, which skews younger.
http://www.reddit.com/r/penis
- In a German documentary from 5 years ago, a 15-year-old German-Turkish girl insults a boy by saying "I bet you don't shave your pubes!".
Make of that what you will.
- You're telling me the average teenage male in Plymouth MN or Minnetonka or White Bear Lake is shaving pubes? I don't buy it. Most of these kids aren't trusted with scissors let alone razor blades.
- Well not necessarily always shaving, r65, but significant trimming is almost universal. Also, your last sentence makes you look... well, stupid.
My (not gay) brother just graduated from Roseville a year ago, so I'm pretty familiar with what's current here. We were even trimming (though no shaving) 9 years ago when I was in school.
- So r66 is a suburban gay who shaves his cock. How surprising!
- I live near Prospect Park, r67, but I recognize clearly that for you, "suburban" is code for normal natural people who aren't following hipster shit.
r66
- If you're so natural why do you shave down there? Gearing up for a big night at Olive Garden? ;)
We're practically neighbors btw. So I'll stop catting at you now.
- Hello from Germany, y'all!
PP%2C%20SM
- For most young guys the motivation is not some fashion statement, it's just what's considered normal and expected. It's well understood that girls do not want a big hairy bush on a guy.
- Cause everyone does what is done in Sweden R49 Germans are freaks as well as pointed out by OP.
- Well, that was an interesting divergence.
We now return to the geographic discussion.
What other countries still tend to have natural body hair?
And which countries seem to be following the Germanic model?
OP
- I think shaved pubes are sexy, it's like a sexual renegade. I saw a porno in a sauna in Berlin where the performer had no body hair whatsoever, not even eyebrows or eyelashes. He was rolling around on a bouncy oiled plastic surface, I bet that must be fun, like a seal.
I don't shave mine though, I clip them short but don't shave to the skin, it's too much work to maintain and I get bumps or nick myself.
- Just a personal preference but I for one an glad that the emergence of the facial beard as a fashiion statement for young men seems to be mirrored by a rejection of the razor for parts further south. A guy with a full beard and a shaved crotch just doesn't look right.
- Is that the case? Are the Brooklyn hipster beard farmers keeping things natural down south?
- [quote] A guy with a full beard and a shaved crotch just doesn't look right.
I recently saw a Turkish guy on cam4. He was very handsome, with an absolutely gorgeous hairy belly and chest and a 2-day stubble...and shaved groin. It was an immediate turn-off.
- Maybe this is a regional/cultural thing. I attended public HS in LA (LAUSD) not a terribly long time ago (7 years), and let me tell you most of the Hispanic dudes in the lockers definitely go around with full bush.
- Well who the hell cares about that r78?
- Uptight prissy types love to idealize the lowlife types. Sexually that is, but not for much else.
- I guess not a wrinkled, old white-trash loser like you R79.
- WTF is with r81's psycho post?
- Asian pubes own this thread. Like a jungle!
- Koreans are kings of the Asian Pube Jungle.
I declare it so.
It is texturally superior.
OP
- For OP...
http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DV102rHyxAjc
- Do you think the shaving thing has made its way into the Farm Belt, or is it more of a big city on the coasts thing?
- Thank you for your input.
OP
- I graduated from high school in 2010. The school was in Kansas and I played Lacrosse and Football. I saw plenty of naked guys in the showers and the locker room and never saw anyone who was clean down there. Trimmed sure, but all of us had pubes. In fact, don't get offended, but in my high school, shaving your bush off would have been considered "gay."
- R88, I thought guys didn't even take showers in high school anymore. So how could you have seen plenty of naked guys?
- I love pulling on a sex partner's pubes and having mine pulled too- so hot, rough, masculine and dominating. It hurts like hell but it's very intimate as you kiss, suck and finger.
