William and Kate have a name for their daughter the future queen
Well, according to Us Weekly, it's Elizabeth Diana Carole.
Surprising? Not really (and it's not like we were expecting a crazy celebrity baby name from the pair), but we think it's a lovely choice. Elizabeth, which comes from a Hebrew name meaning "God's promise," is obviously a name with a rich royal tradition -- starting with the fact that it's the name of the current queen and also the name of the Queen Mother.
Diana, of course, is the name of Will's late mother, and a sweet tribute. Plus, it comes from the Latin name meaning "goddess."
Carole is an ancient Germanic name meaning "freeholder" and it's the name of Kate's mom. (Carole Middleton's middle name also happens to be Elizabeth!)
By the time she's 18 the monarchy will be over. She'll be a "princess" in name only.
The monarchy will never be over.
Dang! I was looking forward to a REAL Queen Latifah.
Isn't US Weekly clever for coming up with a name that combines those of the closest female relatives?
Can we please get a bit more creative tham Elizabeth? Okay fine, keep the name appropriately royal, but do they have to repeat so soon by naming the kid Elizabeth?
It's perfectly understandable that Kate would want to honor her mother, whose shrewdness guided her daughter into the arms of the future King of England; however, Carole is as common as one could get. A good compromise might be Diana Carolina Elizabeth.
They should have grown a pair and named her Cleopatra. Imagine when she became queen....
You bitches realize that they haven't even confirmed the sex of the child yet, right?
Carole? I beg your pardon. Did you say Carole? Don't be ridiculous.
The gays behind the throne who run the show
Carole is a King, not a Queen!
I thought the royals were enamored of dusty old names -- Beatrice, Eugenia, etc.
How about Hesper?
(I actually know someone with that name)
Carole is chav for a girl.
Beatrice, Eugenia, Louise etc. Those names are good for those who will never be sitting on the throne.
Damn, R12. The little bitch will grow up as royalty, not some Monegasque casino heiress. She can do better than Caroline or Charlotte.
Personally, I like the name Eugenics Apartheid Labia
First off: again, they don't even KNOW the sex yet, let alone has it been announced. It is highly unlikely they've discussed names. Even if they had, I do not buy for a nanosecond that they would have THREE Elizabeths in a row, in terms of daughters destined to be queen. I don't buy for a nanosecond of a nanosecond that the chav name Carole would EVER be used in a royal moniker. The Windsors have done quite enough already, putting up with those awful nouveau-riche Middletons, but adding one of their names to that of the child who shall be monarch is simply NOT HAPPENING.
If it is true, then it is perfect. It is a strategic nod toward continuity. Of course he had to throw Diannur in there or the maudlin peasants would revolt, and Carole keeps the wife happy. It's all good.
There hasn't been three queens named Elizabeth in a row. The queen mother was only a queen through marriage. Plus by the time William and Kate's child is crowned it will be long after anyone remembers Elizabeth II.
R16 she almost let it slip she was having a daughter. How come everyone knows that but you?
Also, remember that, like the pope, the new ruler can choose a different name. Queen Victoria was born Alexandrina Victoria, Edward VII was born Albert Edward, George VI was born Albert Frederick Arthur George; and so on.
Elizabeth II was born Elizabeth. I believe Charles said he would use a different name. Maybe he will become Elizabeth III.
Charles already said he'd become Kotex I upon assuming the throne.
Odds are he becomes George VII. But having been Charles for so long he may opt for Charles III.
Queens rule under their given name.
I have a hard time imagining Carole in there anywhere... it sounds so... not what you'd expect. There were two Carolines... Queens of George II and George IV.
I think Victoria or Mary are strong possibilities. No way will they choose Elizabeth.
Queen Victoria was born Alexandrina Victoria, R24.
Too bad Charles hates his dad. King Philip II has a certain ring to it.
I half remembered that, R26 but was too lazy to Google. It's not one of their hard and fast rules, but more often than not a Queen has stuck with her given name... there have only been six reigning Queens: Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II. Only Victoria used her second name.

Umm, I posted that Vic changed her name at R21. It shouldn't have been too hard to remember...
Queen Victoria's sister was named Feodora. High time that name reappeared.
Did they changes the rules yet? If the first born is a girl, can she be the future heir? They better hurry the fuck up and change it if they haven't.

OK, R Anal. I honor the meaning your fastidiousness provides you.
A girl!!!!Off with her head!!!
I will bet money this is wrong.
Wouldn't they have spun the sperm to make sure it is a boy? I think you can do that nowadays. No?
There will be a Queen Victoria in Sweden in the next 10 or 20 years so I doubt they will want to have two Queen Victorias. Maybe they can name her Camilla after her step grandmother.
