It was such a stupid show. Why didn't they ever buy new clothes?

• The Beverly Hillbillies is my favorite 1960s sitcom. Especially the black-and-white ones. It got silly towards the end. Margaret Drysdale was a treasure!

• The first couple of seasons were great. The others were stupid and cartoonish.

• They didn't need new clothes because Granny kept them clean with her lye soap!

• OP is too stupid to understand the principles of farce. Go back to Idol and pump up their ratings, asshole.

• R4 shakes and moans whenever a phone rings - Gramps only communicates via Morse code and bottle message.

• If a young woman like Ellie May found herself in Beverly Hills and never bought any new clothes, it'd be because her Uncle Jed never gave her any spending money.

• I loved it. My favorite was the divine Miss Nancy Kulp. "Chief!"

• Was Jethro sexy? I can't decide.

• There were a few times when Ellie Mae was forced to wear a dress but she always moaned that she felt like a "girl" when she'd rather be outside rasslin' with critters.

• The writing (from the first few years, at least) is so underrated. Hilarious literary and cultural references. And the show was perfectly cast.

• Sacrilege! Talk like that will get you waterboarded in the cement pond OP!

• I thought Max Baer Jr. was very hot! I always looked forward to episodes that featured the cee-ment pond because Jethro might appear in swimming trunks, but he rarely did. I don't think Max was into that kind of exploitation.

• Dash Riprock made my little boy nub hard.

• I loved the Drysdale's obviously gay son, and the clearly lesbian Miss Jane.

• Ellie May was clearly lesbian, and Jethro was clearly bi.

• I loved the whole Possum Queen/Festival arc. "Anyone who would vote for Mrs. Drysdale would suck eggs!!!"

• Irene Ryan was brilliant as Granny.

• I liked the black 1964 Chrysler Imperial that Mr. Drysdale drove.

• And Oldsmobile made the Clampett's truck. How about that? Oldsmobile in its early years made trucks in addition to passenger cars.

• The "Glory Swanson" episode where they thought Gloria was broke was hysterical.

• I know it was scripted but it was very sweet scene at the end of the Gloria Swanson episode when she met her public at Bug Tussle. "Miss Swanson, you're the biggest thing to ever happen to Bug Tussle." "Well, Bug Tussle is the nicest thing to ever happen to me."

• Paul Henning, the producer and head writer of The Beverly Hillbillies (and Petticoat Junction!) was also the genius behind the Burns and Allen TV series.
