St. Patrick's Day is being celebrated tonight in NYC

And it's the only night of the year there are as many drunks out on the streets as there are on any Saturday night in London.

• I just came home from dinner. There are several vaguely Irish bars on 2nd avenue and every one of them had packs of drunk 20-somethings hanging around drunk off their asses. Any excuse to drink!

• St. Patrick would be so proud that the American Irish have made his name synonymous with getting disgustingly drunk and watching a group of drunken homophobes march down the street.

• There were a bunch of hot guys in green running around HK last night.

• Thank gawd the Americans don't know the refrain to Fields of Athenry. Can you imagine hearing that til 4 am?

• I noticed all the suburban teens who came into the city yesterday were wearing hoodies. Winter jackets are apparently fashion anathema to kids who get picked up and dropped off by a school bus and whose mommies drive them everywhere else. They were freezing their asses off. It was funny to see them all cluelessly trying to hail a cab in the snow, especially when 6 or 7 of them were all standing together, as if a cab the size of a small schoolbus was going to pull up and take them all.

• Do people in NYC not celebrate St. Pat's Day on March 17th? How bizarre.

• Because Sunday is supposedly a day of religious observance, they scheduled the NYC parade on Saturday. . So this is St Patrick's Day weekend, instead of just one day. Lots of people from the parade in NYC yesterday are in Dublin's parade today.

• Even when I did drink, I never drank on St. Paddy's, Cinco de Mayo, or New Year's Eve. Amateur hour.
