Jane Curtin or Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Who has had the better post SNL Career?
Only chose between these two.
Louis-Dreyfus, hands down.
Julia, duh. Member of the ensemble of one of TV's most beloved, lauded and respected shows, another hit show not long after that, and now a well received cable show. How many Emmys and Golden Globes does she have?
Jane Curtain, with all due respect, just has "Third Rock from the Sun."
Jane also had Kate and Allie and is the superior actress, but there's no denying Julia had the more successful career.
Julia has three Emmys, Jane two Emmys
Jane has also done some good dramatic roles and has Broadway on her resume.
She has had a much more well-rounded career than Julia who has just has sitcoms to her credits.
Julia is funnier.
R6 go buy the Kate & Allie DVD
Julia has never done anything funnier than Mrs. Loopner.
Define "better" OP. If you are including financially, JL-D has Sienfeld money, so no contest.
If you are including financially, JL-D has Seinfeld money, so no contest.
She's also the daughter of a billionaire.
Jane: work shouldn't be that hard to find when you're an ignorant slut.
Kate & Allie was terminally unfunny, earnest sitcom. That said, I really like Jane Curtin and enjoyed her as Mary Albright on The 3rd Rock. JLD wins this based on Seinfeld alone.
Not only was Julia on one of the best sitcoms of all time, her character was easily the funniest on said sitcom.
And now she's got the hilarious "Veep"!
Julia was fantastic as "Old Christine"
Kate and Allie was a quality sitcom, r12. It wasn't laugh out loud funny, but it was entertaining and intelligent. Plus, it had a great NYC vibe...you could tell it was shot in NYC, even the interiors. It had Dick Van Dyke's old writers. The show faltered when these writers left and were replaced with inferior writers, who moved K&A into a high rise. I don't think it holds up very well, particularly because it wasn't LOL funny, but was pretty relevant for the time.
Kate and Allie was amusing - something you watched if nothing else was on.
They should do a mother-daughter sitcom together.
Again, JLD without question.
Who's the better comic actress? They're tied.
Didn't the little boy who played Jane Curtain's son play the son of the white supremacist on "Oz" and got raped by Chris Meloni?
Please. JLD has yet to top Seinfeld. People barely remember her last show despite it being on for several years.
Ditto the current show. Shit, I didn't even know she had a show on the air until she was nominated for a golden globe.
And while Seinfeld was good, it too is overrated in the pantheon of comedy shows.
Seinfeld was not The Julia Louis-Dreyfus show.
She was a supporting player.
It's JLD for the win, but Jane Curtin's no slouch.
JLD was on SNL? Who knew? And this was pre=Seinfeld??
What am I...chopped liver?
She met her husband (ex?) on SNL, some bland white guy. Gary something, I think.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus! Veep is one of my favorite shows. It is hysterical. Episode 2, Yoghurt, had me howling.
Julia - Day by Day, Seinfeld, Christine, Veep
R27 Brad Hall
R29, you forgot Watching Ellie.
JLD is now the most successful female SNL alumni, bar none
Tina, JLD, Jane.
I prefer Molly Shannon.
I'm more of a Jane Curtin fan, but I think Julia has had the better post-SNL career. Curtin was very funny, though. Kate & Allie was once one of the only sitcoms in the Nielsen Top Ten in the early 80s. It kind of kept sitcoms alive before Cosby reinvigorated the genre.
It's not really a fair question.
When Gilda was bombing and Laraine was doing nothing and Julia L-D was barely starting her first season on SNL, Jane was winning her first Lead Comedy Actress Emmy for Kate and Allie.
So... there you go. There are pioneers, and there are settlers.
Kate & Ally was slightly above-average at most, as even its defenders here admit, and I didn't like 3rd Rock or Seinfeld. Seinfeld is by far the most acclaimed and biggest hit of the 3 though, so you'd have to go with Dreyfus. Especially when you're eliminating SNL from the mix, because the original cast years of SNL were among the show's best. I can't even remember when Dreyfus was on, bet it was during the misbegotten 80s seasons, when it so bad it deserved cancellation.
Dreyfus was on during the Eddie Murphy years.
She was among the trio of ladies that included Robin Duke and Mary Gross.
Julia was on SNL for a very short time really - 3 seasons. And she was very young.
Hard to compare the two - Jane definitely has turned down a lot of work due to family obligations.
JLD is brilliant on "Veep." It's a full-rounded performance, not just a comic role.
Veep is far too sophisticated of a show for people who call fucking Kate and Allie "intelligent."
Seinfeld is unwatchable
I eat shit.
Veep is far too sophisticated of a show
Oooh, Miss Mary Jane believes she's quite the chic sophisticate... and why? Why, because she watches the right [italic]sitcom![/italic]
JLD sucks. She always plays the same person.
Veep is too sophisticated for someone who watches shit like Kate and Allie. Sorry if the truth hurts, grandmas.
Veep = the Ulysses of sitcoms
R44/R47, I'm sorry if I offended your delicate ego. Veep is for smart people, unlike yourself.
Tell us more about how smart you are because you watch Veep.
What the fuck is wrong with you? Veep is a multi-layered political satire. Kate and Allie is a moronic '80s sitcom about mommies.
Can you not understand the difference?
Jane is now having to hang Julia's curtains.
Jane was also in the "Coneheads" movie, a voice actress in "Antz", and is in the "Unforgettable" TV series.
