Justin Timberlake is the host and musical guest.
I gather that many SNL greats like Steve Martin, Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase will also make an appearance. Is it too much to hope that we'll get Two Wild And Crazy Guys?
Whatever happens this will be the highest rated SNL for this season and might help NBC pull ahead of Univision.
If you like Justin, he's going to be on Jimmy Fallon every night next week.
I think he's unattractive and is repulsive (see Repulsive thread). I must say though that he is a better actor than singer, and SNL is an arena where he excels.
I like him as an actor but I don't listen to his music.
Justin Timberlake won Emmys for his last two guest-hostings of "Saturday Night Live" - in 2009 and 2011.
[quote]Whatever happens this will be the highest rated SNL for this season and might help NBC pull ahead of Univision.
SNL doesn't air in prime time; that's all that counts.
Will he make it a threepeat with tonight's show?
I wanna see Stefon.
Who is Stefon (if not an old character from GH)?
Uhh, you are KIDDING, right, R7?
No. Who is Stefon?
I haven't watched SNL since the last time JT was on (so if he played a character named "Stefon," you'll get to have a huge GOTCHA! moment with me, but I don't care).
And why would you be irate, even a little, teeny tiny bit?
Stefon is Bill Hader's club kid character on Weekend Update.
When Justin's on I'm reminded how much SNL is like my high school talent show. Yes, I was an MC. It sucked.
I love Timberschlong. He is truly delightful. I am going to buy his new ... what do you even call it now? ... his new tracks? Does it even exist on CD?
I don't know how people can't just love this guy. He's sweet, he's funny, he's utterly fuckable. He is the whole package.
But why JZ, JT? That is one unattractive man, JZ.
So articulate, R18. In two threads.
SNL troll? Let 'em know that JT was fine - as much as he could be with this seasons shitty writing.
The talentis not the issue - as always its the material.
I think r20 is right. One of the writers on SNL trolls DL for inspiration. Stefon made reference to Mary! AND kidney stones. Two of DL's favorites.
But good grief, Dan Akroyd's appearance was heartbreaking.
R12, was that supposed to be funny?
akroyd overworked his schtick tonight. Was he always that bad or just off his game?
I agree, r22. He was almost unrecognizable.
No, son. Akroyd was one of SNLs original cast members. Original SNL News anchor with Jane Curtain. He also went on to star in a few movies (Blues Brothers, Ghost Busters off the top of my head)
He was not himself tonight and I'm not sure why they allowed it.
Utterly fantastic show tonight from beginning to end.
[quote] Original SNL News anchor with Jane Curtain.
R26, you ignorant slut! Chevy was the original anchor, and it's CURTIN.
I thought it was an okay show, better than some this season. The best so far this season has been the Bruno Mars episode. The Caligula skit could have been so much better but fell flat.
Stefon is Lorne Michael's latest homo-hate character. He hates minorities and fags. "It's Pat"; the ambiguously gay duo; Dana Carvey's "[childish epithet posted by a bigoted tool] heterosexual"; the girl with no gaydar... and on and on. None of them are ever positive portrayals.
His girl friday Tina Fey was particular virulent, one of those narcissists who think all the guys who don't want her are queer.
I bet Lorne was the brat in school who gave everyone mean nicknames.
R30 ? Lighten up francis
r230, every one of those characters you mention was dreamed up by the comedians who played them, not by Lorne Michaels.
[quote] not by Lorne Michaels.
I thought it was a good show--especially Vegan Ville with JT. He can move!
Lately, I've been enjoying Weekend Update a lot. Maybe the last 4 shows or so.
Damn! make that R22 Danny should keep a loop of that clip on his refrigerator.
Was he on Bonanza as one of my sons late in the run? Maybe he played Candy.
R22 Actually Paul Simon's return was even more tragic. He looked like a child who is transgendered and one can't tell what he/she/it is! He's become Pat.....
Paul Simon looked like a disheveled Jiminy Cricket.
Anyone who says "I don't get it" re Maine Justice is a moron. The whole point of it is it's nonsensical-as in, it makes no sense. I want to smack these dimwits with my large penis.
There's supposed to be some sort of irony about Maine Justice featuring Cajuns from Louisiana. The irony is lost on everybody because the premise is stupid. And the irony is not apparent to the audience in the process.
I'll stipulate to everything you say, R40. And if it's attached to something worthwhile, I'll submit to a beating from your large penis.
But stipulate and submit though I may, the Maine Justice thing just wasn't funny.
I love Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie"..but Jay Z ruins the song. Their was no need for that stupid rap. I enjoy Justin's music, and love watching him on SNL, but don't like him in films.
Last night was a good show for a change.
R43: you can find that song as an instrumental on Youtube.
Kevin Hart was much better. Timberlake is just doing the same recycled shit he's done on every other SNL.
I'm surprised Jay Z bothered to go sing with him. The single was not the hit it was predicted to be. And a week of him on Fallon? Must be nice to have friends on a major network.
Those last two skits were the exact same skits Jamie Foxx did on his SNL gig earlier in the season. I can't stand Timberlake as an actor, and don't understand why people are so taken by him. He seems like an egomaniacal douche.
I agree r46 and yet he always strangely likable whenever he's on SNL. Then the next day, I go back to my original opinion. Why is that?
They don't call him "The Camel" for nothin'.
OK Here goes: the Acadians, later be known as "Cajuns" after their migration to Looziana, originally settled in the Canadian Maritime Provinces as well as Maine after arriving from France.
So there actually IS a connection in the history of all dem Boudreauxs, Broussards, and Landrys with the lobster capital.
Yep but I'm still thinking it's a little weird. People from Maine, not attractive. People from Louisianna, attractive.
Maine is as hickish as the South.
During the Sober Caligula sketch, I think when Taran Killam ran his hand over Justin Timberlake's breastplate, it was an ad libbed action judging by JT's reaction to it.
Love how people treat Timberskank like he's a great artist instead of the corporate media creation that he is. He's barely a notch above that talentless other Justin and yet gets treated like he's Paul McCartney. Amazing.
But then we live in a world where Kim Kardashian can become a one-person conglomerate simply for getting banged on tape by a Z-list celebrity, so what else is new.
Didn't Taran look SMOKING HOT in just a loincloth and bulls' head in that Caligula sketch?
Correction r4! Justina has been nominated twice for SNL but won only one Emmy. Don’t give the little overrated fucker too much credit. I think he’s a slightly more talented Vanilla Ice for the new millennium; some little punk-ass closeted white boy who wants to be like the black punk rappers he hangs with and probably gets gang-banged by. I don’t get what these hip-hop players like that ugly ass Jay-Z and others see in this little bitch. I can't stand Justina!
49= moron. There are no cajuns in Maine, idiot.
Justin won one Emmy for hosting the show and the other for co-writing a song for the monologue.
No wait, that's totally wrong.
Justin has won FOUR Emmys for Saturday Night Live -- two for hosting, and two for writing songs.
He won 2 for hosting and will probably win his third for last night although Martin Short deserves it for when he hosted in December. But last night's episode definitely deserves Best Hair.
so how do you start a new thread around here?
God yes, r54!
Was Jane Curtin on SNL on 3/9/13?? Someone on TV news just was another??
R45, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are said to be going on tour together in the near future.
And Jay Z also sang the Suit & Tie song with Justin Timberlake on the Grammy Awards show a couple of weeks ago.
R41, the ironic Maine Justice skit was brilliant, and the premise was not stupid at all.
The people who do not understand that skit are not very bright, and since there are multitudes of people who are not bright nor educated and are devoid of intellect, I can see them not understanding that skit.
R40, it wasn't that the Maine Justice skit did not make sense (which is what you surmised) - the skit was SATIRE.
Jay-Z is such a no talent.
[quote]Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are said to be going on tour together in the near future.
Nobody wants to see Jay Z, r63.
and he's following in the high priestess' foot prints.
Let's call it like it is: Madge is the trailblazer.
It's about CORPORATE media blitzes and TOURING.
Notice he's going on tour with Jay Z and this saturation is his launching point.
I love the guy. Hot, fuckable, and, allegedly tres gay.
It's entertainment biz.
Jay Z, Madonna, Beyonce, JT: Live Nation, Interscope=Illuminati.
he's not funny or a good singer.
I don't see how anyone can deny Justin is talented? The guy can sing, dance, act, write, and he oozes charisma. I get it that he might not be your thing, but he's great on SNL. Good looking, great smile, utterly charming.
I think he's rather homely and boring as a performer. Don't get all the love for him at all.
I liked his backup dancer - the bald one -
The dating game was fun and, as always, all the homoerotic interaction involving JT, Sandberg, Bill Hader, Seth Mayer, or that new young kid who's always getting naked, are always welcome. Hell, even Bobby Moynihan was looking good (he's talented and funny). And I'd still do Aykroyd.
My only complaint is that tired 5 club. I haven't seen so many wrinkles and white hair in one room since the last State of the Union.
No hair is better than white hair.
Also liked Honky Tonk Bar Fight Airlines, and NY's Hottest Club - MARY!
Summing up my posts from the other SNL thread
5 club was fun 20 years ago when it was Tom Hanks, Steve Martin and Paul Simon. Now at least two of those have to be in the high teens, so it's dumb. Dave Matthews and Eminem are members now for goodness sake and Alec has hosted 15 times.
I wanna give Taran Killam a full body tongue bath.
Jay Z and Justin aren't just going on tour together--they are going on a STADIUM tour together. Insanity.
I like the Maine Justice skits - so long as they don't overuse them. The first with Jamie Foxx, Charlie Day, and the new Aidy Bryant was good.
As over-the-top as the acting is, I'm surprised there isn't more breaking like Jamie Foxx does in this clip. It seems to be acceptable on that show lately.
Is it funny enough to bother watching? I can't stand Timberlake or his "music" and think he looks like an inbred unibrowed troll. But are the other people and the writing funny enough to make it worth watching?
What was Timberlake's most homoerotic skit? I can't possibly watch the whole show.
r79, it was probably the weakest as well, the Sober Caligula one. He talks about everything from bestiality to Golden Showers to mad sex with Taram Killan and Bobby Moynihan.
But the shit ain't that funny, just hot
[quote]I liked his backup dancer - the bald one -
I was thinking the very same thing. He was was of Michael Jackson's original dancer in the "This Is It" movie. The hot dancer has a smoking hairy chest and body.
[quote]Jay Z and Justin aren't just going on tour together--they are going on a STADIUM tour together. Insanity.
Please say that's not true, Jay-Z sucks!
R49...Hey cher! The cajuns came from New Foundland, not Maine! Laissez les bons temps rouler!
