NRA Field Rep Banned From Carrying Gun Because Of Domestic Violence History

The scenario most feared by card-carrying National Rifle Association members came to pass, when police entered Richard D’Alauro’s home in East Northport, NY and seized 39 rifles, pistols, and shotguns. The cops later returned to confiscate additional weapons and ammunition they’d missed the first time around. Was this one of President Barack Obama’s fabled attempts to take away our guns? Actually, it’s because this high-level field representative for the NRA — whose territory covers New York City and surrounding areas in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey — has a serious domestic violence problem. Dan Friedman from the New York Daily News reports that on September 1st, 2010, 62-year old D’Alauro was charged with child endangerment and assaulting and harassing his then-wife-who-wisely-became-his-ex-wife, Maribeth D’Alauro. And to make this NRA top gun look like even more of a monster, his wife is disabled with multiple sclerosis and has to walk with a cane. On October 3rd, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of harassment, and Suffolk County Court Judge Toni Bean continued an order of protection for D’Alauro’s wife and prohibited him from owning or buying any firearms for one year.
