I just was given a beautiful brand new Oriental carpet--it's in a very unusual rust color. I love t, but the problem is that the room it goes it has a grey-taupe sofa. The room is now a little too neutral. What colors can I use for throw pillows etc. to make the whole thing pop a bit more? Turquoise?
Just make sure your nail polish matches, regardless of the color caftan you choose.
How big is the room? Would a couple of throw pillows really change the room's overall design that much?
It's not about color alone, the proportions have to fit as well.
Usually navy is great with rusts and oranges, but that might be too neutral for what you want. Look at the carpet and reuse some of the colors from it.
Turquoise is almost always a bad idea in anything but jewelry.
A few touches of deeper warm blue might work, especially if paired with white and some tiny touches of a complimentary orange.
But the place to look for complimentary colors is in the carpet itself. What kind of "oriental carpet" has only one color? What are the other colors in the carpet, think about those.
Will your cat be laying on the carpet?
Draw the complementary colors from the other colors in the rug.
