A very good friend keeps picking fights on my Facebook wall
Should I say something?
Could I delete him?
You've done something to piss him off. If you care, talk to him. If you don't, unfriend him.
Just to clarify, he's picking fights with my Facebook friends, not with me.
OP, think of your facebook wall as your "house." When people are guests in your home, they have the expectation that they'll be treated with respect.
It's possible to have discussions and disagree with one another and still be polite, thoughtful, and respectful. No one should come into you home and be rude and disrespectful or make other people who are your guests feel uncomfortable.
You need to message him privately and explain this to him. And be very clear and straight forward. Tell him you feel he is being agressive and it makes you feel uncomfortable for your other friends. He sounds like a very immature person.
Are you saying you post a status and he picks a fight in comments? Just do a "custom post" and block him from seeing it.
[quote] You need to message him privately and explain this to him.
Or, god forbid, phone him up to speak directly. Or, radically, speak to him in person.
Other options are to get off Facebook. God help us if people start equating a website with their own home.
I wasn't equating facebook with your own home, I was using it metaphorically to illustrate a point. Facebook is a forum that provides opportunities for discussion, and people who participate should adhere to certain basic courtesies.
Put it another way. OP, when this person visits you in your home and you have other friends over does he act out and behave this way in person? Probably not. At least I hope not.
Don't clarify R3 most of us know what you meant but I still like the idea of a '70's housewife opening her arms wide and saying, "Welcome to my delightful Facebook page, make yourself at home. Drinks?"
I cleaned my FB house, deleted the venomous wing-nuts and trouble makers. Who needs it in your own home.
Unfriend is your friend!
I know what r3 meant as well, but still marvel at the seriousness of all this Facebook etiquette. Once such levels have been reached it makes one wonder whether the whole thing has been blown out of all proportion. It's meant to be a tool to keep up with people, not an entire alternative social reality.
if any social application deserved Punch and Delete it's Facebook. It's a horrible mess of self-promotion, relentless spam and bad pictures.
This thread is about OP's problem with his friend. Whatever we may think of Facebook.
Sorry, it's always about ME.
I have a friend who tries to do this once in a while. I respond by deleting his comments or the entire post if I think it's appropriate.
He messaged me once after I did that and said, "So I see you deleted my response to so-and-so"
I responded that I don't want any arguing or bad feelings on my facebook page. I'm here for fun and entertainment. He's welcome to post comments, but he's not welcome to pick fights. Keep it fun.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
