"The Simpsons" - animated comedy sitcom series currently airing on FOX

Pretty funny. Even witty, at times. Homer is the bumbling, gluttonous title character. Julie Kavner voices his mother's character (I always love her). I was kind of disappointed that there was a gay joke in the first episode. To be fair, the writers also added a mild jab at Christians with the neighbor character (not that one excuses the other). The look of the animation is pretty weak though. Has anyone else seen this? The key demographic is obviously young men in their late teens to late 20's. Very colorful aesthetic, but also plenty of satire. I'll probably keep watching it.

• Well, you'll probably think I'm weird: I haven't watched The Simpsons in years, since it debuted. I hate TV. So OP's post isn't far off my radar. The weird part: I'm currently on Level 26 of The Simpsons Tapped Out, which is the level for hopeless chronics. It's a very fun game, but I really haven't any idea who most of the characters are.

• Anyone catch Mary Tyler Moore's show? Mary is such a progressive female moving out on her own and having a career. And that Betty White -she's a hoot!

• I liked them better when they were on The Tracy Ullman Show. They looked cruder, yet more sympathetic. That gave them character. Now they are mere caricatures of what they were on her show.

• Why have they never had an episode that dealt with Bart and Maggie's relationship? Everyone has had a show which gave treatment to everyone's relationships with one another, except Bart and Maggie. And whatever happened to Marge's mother? Was she ever seen again after her near-wedding to Monty Burns?

• I read that we're seeing less Patty and Selman and by association Marge's mother because they irritate Julie Kavner's vocal chords even more than doing Marge.

• It was funny on Tracey Ullman in those short clips but it will never be sustained as a half-hour show. That sort of thing for animation went out with "The Jetsons." And there's simply not enough material to fill it for long.

• I just purchased seasons 1-11 on DVD and have been watching them over and over again...those first few seasons were incredible. It is incomprehensible why the show didn't end after Season 11 and have itself a damned good run. There are moments that are just as heartbreaking as they are funny. Homer and Marge have a really beautiful relationship. The ending of the birth of Maggie episode never fails to put me to tears.

• I love The Simpsons, but this is the show that made Fox News possible. On the other hand, Matt Groening only agreed to do the show if they gave him the ancilliary rights, so they did. And Fox lost MILLIONS on that deal. Ha-haw!
