My computer keeps turning on and off, I've posted about this before

And I downloaded malewarebytes as people on the other thread have suggested. I caught most of the viruses infecting my computer and the problem persists. Sometimes the screen will black out for no reason. How should I proceed next?

Back up your data, Format the hard drive, Clean install an operating system of your choice. Go away.
Check to see is the cooling fan vent is blocked. Mine was. Cleaned it and the computer stopped shutting down. Good lick, OP.

Start with the cheapest least painful option first 1.Go to Fry's. Ask them what size battery to buy for your computer. Take it home and replace your battery. 2. Go back to Fry's and take your computer with you ask them to check your power source, fan, etc. 3. Back up your hard drive and then format your it and reload your operating system. 2 and 3 are interchangeable depending on your tolerance for boredom.

First thing I'd do is post a new thread on the malwarebytes forum. They have experts there. I myself was assisted several years ago. They might ask you to use a program called HijackThis. It's not for novices to try alone but the logs it produces can be helpful in determining what the problem is. You said you did a scan, did you follow the instructions? It may have asked you to restart your PC. Did you do a full scan or a quick scan? If your computer is running hot to the touch, check the ventilation. Heat is what kills most laptops. This can cause black screens or BSOD. The heat tends to be generated because dust accumulates inside and without proper ventilation, the parts inside basically cook. I highly recommend downloading the free software CoreTemp. Once you minimize the window, it displays the temperature in your task bar in real time. Also, if you have a laptop, raise the back. This has made a huge differenece (15+ degrees). Consider a fan. In summer, I always have one running when my laptops are on. If you don't have an antivirus, get one ASAP. I recommend Avast, you can get a free version. Run it once a week. Don't open anything in email, even if your best friend sent it unless you've scanned it.
Backup what data you can. Buy a new computer. Copy the data onto the new computer. Do a full virus scan immediately. Bulk-erase your old computer's hard disk. Recycle it.
what r11 said. The only time my computer did this is when it got too hot. I use Spybot, Avira, and Malewarebytes on my PCs and there has never been a virus that these programs hasnt been able to kill.
My old HP laptops used to run very hot. They'd shut down before I realized the problem. So i always - and I mean always - had a small fan aimed at the hot spot on the computer. With the fan It never overheated again. Even if I was in bed I had that small fan blowing on it. When I got my latest HP laptop last year I mentioned this issue and they said HP had taken care of it and they were right. My new HP has never overheated and rarely gets that hot. Once in a great while it gets a little hot and I again i use a fan for a short while and its cool again. IT people are annoying. They give their advice in IT terms and in such a shorthand that most people don't get what they mean. Then they insult you for failing to understand their half-assed, poor instructions.

I have to agree with R16...After 15 years with a windows pc, I took it out back and shot it. A tiny 40watt mac mini does everything the tower did and it rarely has a problem. I work the shit out of it and it is on 24/7. I have finally converted. I tried to stick with Windows but I gave up.

And I don't want to be a Mac snob, or anything like that. I don't know how to use half the shit on it. But I always had problems with Windows crashing and with viruses. The only time my Mac crashes is when the power goes out.

It's funny... I know at least half a dozen people who switched to Mac... and then switched back because they were so frustrated with the problems they were having with them. From constant printing problems, to just not having the software they wanted, to lack of customization. My Windows PCs are on 24/7 and I just don't have the issues so many of you seem to claim I should be having. Of course, remember: Apple is a monopoly... they make everything, top to bottom, nuts and bolts to the OS and a lot of the software. They also charge a premium for it. A lot of you are blaming Windows or Microsoft for the problems caused by el-cheapo 3rd party PCs and hardware. Until "Surface", Microsoft didn't make hardware at all. They made an operating system that was expected to run on literally hundreds of millions of different configurations of PCs out there. Apple only has to create an OS to run on the half dozen models it decides to create and support. Buy a decent Windows PC, and you won't have these issues.
R19, if you "always had problems with viruses and crashes", then you must have been using IE and Window XP on cheap hardware or something. I use Win7 and Win8 all the time (the only IE I use is IE9 and IE10, never 6/7/8), in addition to Chrome and Firefox. I do serious work on these machines, as well as browsing all over the web (including porn sites). I never have virus or crashing problems. A lot of "get a mac" people continue to slam Windows for things that haven't been true in nearly a decade. It's annoying. (p.s. A decade ago, even Macs weren't that stable... I used to teach classes on old Macs (pre-OS X), and they crashed every bit as often as Windows PCs did. I got so sick of that "System Bomb" screen, or having to use paper-clips to reset the original fat-macs, because they had no reset button when they froze) The myth that Mac is so superior is just that: a well crafted, marketed, and sold myth... reinforced by anecdotal tales such as yours, comparing apples and oranges.
I agree R20. Macs are usually solid in and of themselves but they don't always cooperate with externals. And as with everything else, you get what you pay for. A $400 Wal Mart special isn't going to work as well as a decent mid-range unit. And hopefully some of those issues will go away for PC's.

Sure it's not a problem with your screen? When one of the capacitors on the board blows, the screen will turn off by itself for a while, and then come back on later. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can replace it yourself. Take it to Radio Shack to make sure you buy the right replacements--will be about 3 bucks for a pair. Or get someone to do it for you--will run about $50. Samsung products were notorious for using cheapie capacitors.

Is it an old CRT tube screen, or a LCD flat screen? Just curious (strange question these days, I know, but the only time I had a problem similar to this was decades ago with a tube screen)

If you have a PC tower case, open up the case, and blow out all the dust.
Then the fan will die and the chipset will fry. Good times!

A computer powering down unexpectedly is also a symptom of a marginal power supply . . . something that will go bad after four or five years of heavy use ( desktop ) . . . . . cheap to replace.
