Have you ever suspected someone you knew was a pedo

There's this guy I know that constantly tells me about his sexual exploits. One day he could be telling me about how he cajoled boys to suck his cock and he'd hastily mention the fact that tey were 18, another day he'd be talking about this underage movie star. I keep getting the feeling that he's a pedo.

• A pedophile is a mentally ill adult whom sexualizes and objectifies young children who are not sexually mature . A person who targets a teen for sex is not a pedophile - immoral, illegal, pathetic, predatory (the list goes on) yes - pedophile, no. The word gets thrown around here a lot and I think given that so many think it's synonymous with homosexual I thought we would know what it actually means.

• Yes, we flat out knew one of the priests in our parish was. The nuns even warned us not to be alone with him. One day he was transferred to a new parish with no announcement. Our best guess was that someone finally called him out, but it was the early 80s, so I'm sure it was all done hush-hush to "protect the privacy of the innocent,"--i.e., cover it up. I was in a room alone with him once and it was the creepiest damn thing. He wanted to hold my hands and give me a neck rub. I said no thanks. He never got me, but I know he convinced a couple boys to do stuff with him. He was always touching the boys and his hands lingered just that bit too long. Nasty.

Never had any sexual contact with a teen as an adult. I have no interest although let's face it, some of those 17 year old high school wrestlers are hot.

• Sure I have suspected, but suspicion isn't fact. Way too many people have had their lives destroyed with accusations of being a pedo and quite frankly I'm not sure if they were even pedos. I was having a discussion about something like this with some friends not that long ago. About how we used to play outside and be gone for hours and hours and our parents wouldn't have a clue as to where we were or what we were up to other than, 'outside playing'. And the question came up about whether or not there were as many pedos back then. My feeling is that the pedo numbers haven't increased or decreased, but everyone is just so overly sensitive about everything surrounding children now. I think any guy who gets into teaching kids or volunteering any time with young children is just asking for trouble.

• A friend has an older, straight, married uncle that he never liked or trusted. All through his childhood, he avoided him. Now, 30 years later, the uncle is doing life in prison, a neighbor pressed charges, years of abuse. My friend suspected an unfortunately, was correct.

• I know a guy (late 20s) who likes 16-17 year old boys, most of whom are hustlers, former prostitutes, druggies, all of them very troubled. He meets them in a psych outpatient clinic where he works. He is getting his degree in psych social work. This is obviously not pedophilia, but it's a serious transgression of a health care worker toward patients. I like him a lot (except for this) and he feels he is helping these kids towards normalcy but I feel this is very, very wrong. I have told him so but obviously he disagrees. I am not in a position to report him but sometimes I wish I could.

• I have a relative who is a sex offender. He got caught downloading photos of young teens having sex with older men. There were no small children. Still... Here is the type of person he is -- the youngest of 11 children, he was neglected by both parents and brought up by his two older sisters who were 6 and 4 years older than he was. The oldest of his sisters is developmentally challenged. She was left back twice in school, got a GED and worked in a kitchen for the rest of her life. All three of the youngest kids were mercilessly teased and threatened by their older brothers. Their father was a drunk who drank up the grocery money. The older boys all had jobs to help buy food for the family. They resented that the younger kids got to "play" while they had to work. The mother worked two jobs and was rarely seen by the younger kids. The older kids had their mother around when they were growing up, but the younger kids rarely saw her from birth to their teen years. In warm weather, the younger kids were required by the older kids to be outside. They roamed all over in woods, neighborhoods, fields, swamps until they were allowed to come home at dinner time. The father beat the mother. This upset all of the kids, but the youngest one would sleep in her bed at night because he didn't have his own bed and he wanted to protect his mother from his father. He was always very needy and clingy. His mother remarried and his stepfather ordered him out of the house the day he graduated from high school. Go out and get a job and be a man, he was told. He always liked childish things. I told my mother, "Don't you think it's odd that X is 30 years old and he wears tee shirts with Warner Bros cartoon characters on them? Like, all the time?" And my mother said, "Well, he's immature. He's always been the baby in the family and he's trying to recapture his youth, back when he didn't have the money to buy cartoon shirts. He always wore hand me downs that we're pretty frayed by the time they got to him." Still.... He's very gullible and would believe anything you told him. He was always falling for scams. He'd go to one of those "buy a time share" things, really thinking he was a finalist in a contest for winning a car. I'm sure he never touched a really young kid because he didn't interact much with people outside of his family. His mother moved to different parts of the country a few times, and each time he followed her and lived nearby. He was always helping his mother,mowing the lawn. Fixing things for her and any of her friends. He liked hanging out with older people -- particularly older women -- and doing things for them. I think it is because he felt he was being a dutiful son and earning the affection of his real mother and his surrogate mothers. I think, in his mind, he is still a boy. He never grew up. His mother and my mother could never see that as being kind of creepy, because they've known him all of his life and he is the same to them today as when he was 10 years old. They know him only as someone with good intentions who wants to help. It doesn't feel good to have a family member who you know has downloaded porn with young adolescents in it. It makes me kind of nauseated, but on the ther hand, I think deep down inside, he never made it past his childhood, so he feels he is one of those kids. I'm sure he was molested by an older cousin who is now dead.

• There's a guy in my building who I'm convinced is a pedo. He's in his 40s, fat and balding, and lives with his mother who looks like she's in her 60s. He's not on the registry so maybe he's never acted on it, but still, something about him is extremely creepy. He screamed at me once in the hallway because he said I was being "too loud" in my apartment and was "frightening his mother". I can't describe it but whenever I see him I get this odd feeling like I'm in the presence of something dangerous.

• Interesting story R14. I always thought that of Michael Jackson - kind of a kid whom never grew up and always focused on young kids trying to build adult relationships with, I remember many years ago briefly dating an entertainment lawyer who told me that MJ was on hormone therapy to delay his puberty because his father felt his voice might change and there goes the meal ticket and it stunted and warped his development so that he never fully sexually matured - the blackmail money was paid to hide that truth. Although he could have molested children, it is believed that the sexual contact was more playful and experimental as with young children and he wasn't physically capable of having an erection or ejaculating - I have no idea if this is true or not, but it makes sense somewhat.

• In the building we used to live in the next door neighbors were this really strange family with two daughters. The older daughter also lived in the building on a different floor, while the younger one lived with the parents in their condo. Even though the younger daughter seemed to be in her late teens, she did everything with her parents who seemed to be eager to keep her in their sight all the time and she didn't seem to have any friends. The mother was this mousy thing who would never talk, seemed scared of everything and everybody, and who looked like she had a really hard life while the father was aggressive and always dressed very inappropriately for someone of his age. The whole family dynamics was very strange and creepy, particularly between the father and the daughters, and thinking back both my partner and I were convinced that some kind of sexual abuse/incest was involved.

• Coming out before 1980, before it was anomalized into something strange, when you went to a gay bar everyone knew who liked 'chicken' (a term I haven't heard since then). Most looked normal but there was always a pedo photofit fat creepy greaser or two. But then, several of the standard 'camp' guys resembled that as well. It was considered relatively normal, but the subject of teasing. As an example, as a student I shared a house with seven males and females and one of the guys liked bodybuilders and young boys -- he had lots of porn of both, which was freely sold. He was very nice and none of us gave it much thought. I'm only into men, but as a 13 yr old I'd actively gone out looking for men, so I could empathize on one level. I do think the hysteria these days is ridiculous.
