Can spoiled children eventually make something of themselves?
Or are they basket cases for the rest of their life?

Yes if you wake up and join the real world and function like a human being.
Spoiled rich kids run the world.
I didn't like Ledger in his role as "Joker".
What R2 said.
What exactly does "spoiled" mean? Is one of the definitions lack of discipline (being spanked as one of the methods of discipline)?

I guess I was spoiled. We weren't very rich but I was an only child and the absolute center of my parents life. The fact that I was the smartest, most handsome and desreving was contantly reinforced. I don;t think I turned out so bad. After public school education I got into a good East coast college (Williams)and have had (so far)a successful and interesting career in publishing. My parents still treat me (I'm 45) like I was a Prince.
Watch Captains Courageous. Maybe you could get a job on a fishing boat.
R9, do you have a good self esteem? Partnered? Only children are stereotypically difficult partners. Set in there ways and all. Just curious. I haven't known many only children.
I'm not R9, but my partner and I are both only children. I think we relate to each other in a way that people who have sibs wouldn't. We had very different upbringings, though. I would say that I (growing up in middle-class America) was spoiled and he (growing up in post-War England) was not.
