National Enquirer: "Neil Patrick Harris Calls Off Gay Wedding!"
[quote]The wedding is OFF! Sitcom star Neil Patrick Harris and his longtime partner David Burtka got engaged after the Marriage Equality Act was passed in New York in 2011, but sources tell The ENQUIRER that the gay couple abruptly called off their nuptials following a vicious lovers’ spat. “They’re barely speaking, and as of now there’s no wedding in the immediate future,” revealed an insider.
At least the babies give David an insurance policy so he'll get a decent payout.
Remember watching their 'Oprah' interview - came away with the feeling that NPH is not as in love as DB is . Just my impression. Rifting off the notion that one partner is always more in love than the other . Seems to always hold true.
Sorry to learn this. Hope they can work it out.
NPH came off very badly in that Oprah interview. I felt bad for Burtka. He seems like he wants to make the best of it.
I also think Burtka is tired of having to accompany Neil to the opening of an envelope. And I can't blame him.
Can they give the childrent back to the mother?
He's STRAIGHT! I knew it all along.
Neil warned David to stop using HIS hair products.
It always seemed like Burtka was in love with NPH's fame. They never seem matched intellectually. NPH is pretty witty and insightful in interviews....Burtka always seems....well,....what is the opposite of witty and insightful?
NPH is hardly MENSA material.
Just have to comment on the headline "Gay Wedding"? Isn't it just a wedding involving people who are gay?
It'd be like Don Cheadle calls off Black Wedding!
I know silly to complain about a sensationalist Enquirer headline, but that shit always annoys me.
They're stuck with each other unless one is comfortable leaving his biokid in the other's care.
Mixed-sperm IVF... so convenient until it becomes inconvenient.
[quote]NPH is hardly MENSA material.
He was a renowned surgeon when he was barely in his TEENS, R10. He's very smart.
no one said he was r10....
I didn't know that R13. How did he get into acting? Why did he leave medicine?
There was a blurb in one of the gossip rags that said NPH is not all that into the children and that it is Burtka who is actually the more caring parent and hands on caregiver. Made me wonder.
hold me, David
They should read the gay divorce thread.
R15 belongs to DENSA.
"Why did he leave medicine?"
He performed a back alley abortion when he was 15, and neglected to inform the producers. That could have been ratings gold.
NPH said he wanted to host the Oscars next year, and David said NO.
The best part of a lover's quarrel is the make-up sex.
Think of the childrren. They hate it when daddy and daddy fight.
W&W for R19. Hysterical.
It's the "A Star is Born" syndrome.
Burtka's a lazy golddigger, sounds like Neil didn't want to be legally bound to him due to the eventual break-up.
I never had a clue when Oprah interviewed them. But they were a bit too friggin happy.
"Burtka always seems....well,....what is the opposite of witty and insightful?"
25 years old and well-hung.
25? He's like 35.
W&W for r29!
Classic DL thread so far!
I knew something was up during their interview with Oprah. David basically said he was stuck at home with the kids (hello 1950s) while Neil was on the road enjoying life. Neil admitted to Oprah he was not as bonded with the kids as David due to his absence.
Rule No. 1: Never confuse proximity to talent with talent.
David seems a little entitled. I once witnessed him make a bit of a fuss because he couldn't enter the stage door of a play Neil was in....they made him walk around and enter through the front door of the theatre. He was not pleased.
NPH just twittered that it's not true. That they're on a cruise together right now, in fact.
They've already given one of the twins away to Perez Hilton, and he has an option on the remaining twin.
NPH became disheartened when it became apparent that the little baby couldn't sing or learn how to tap dance, so he's leaving, leaving on that midnight train to Georgia. Whoo-Hoooo!
I felt like they were rushing things too much.
Not sure how long they've been together, but they seemed too intent on trying to copy heterosexual marriages with two kids and marriage.
And immediately upon marriage between two gay individuals becoming legal in New York, they immediately seemingly without much thought jumped in and said they would be getting married.
It's as if they felt obligated to get married once it became legal to do so.
Little known fact about NPH is that he was a raging sex chasing coke queen during his theater days in New York. That doesn't just go away. I'm sure David was tired of playing Mr. Mom while Neil was gallivanting around.
Eh, R41. It depends. For some people whoring around is a phase they're relieved to have grown out of and gotten out of their system. Especially if they have enough insight to know they were never really happy living that life. Others hope to eradicate their demons by settling down and it doesn't work, at least not for long.
NPH should sue r41
NPH's "theatre days" only lasted a year before he met David...r41 is making stuff up
R42 has it right.
Doesn't David also have kids from a previous relationship?
[quote]Doesn't David also have kids from a previous relationship?
Sort of...he never officially had custody...he just dated a guy with kids...he supposedly still sees them but he was never a legal parent
[quote]NPH's "theatre days" only lasted a year before he met David
Talk about My Favorite Year!
First NPH and then the NY Magazine cover story about gay divorce. Is this a trend?
If they own the house in Harlem, who gets it when they split (married or not)?
R42 has it wrong.
NPH says they never had a wedding date and that the Enquirer is "cray cray"
If NPH is using phrases like "cray cray," he has bigger problems than wedding dates.
They "never had a wedding date"??
After all this time together and 2 small children?
What was he waiting for? Doesn't he realize NOT scheduling a date after all his self-orchestrated hype is much worse?
Here's more on the O.J. stabbing thing on the cover of this rag in case you're interested.
Despite being an alleged murderer and thief, O.J. has a big dick and fucked white women real good with it. As a teen in the 1970s I used to jack off looking at pictures of O.J. Simpson shirtless in Playboy magazine. I wanted his cum so bad I dreamed about it every day.
Thanks for listening.
NPH was in Proof from July to October 2002; Cabaret from January to May 2003; and in Assassins April to July 2004.
According to Wikipedia, the two actors have been together since April 2004.
R56 They spelled "vicious" correctly.
[quote]The best part of a lover's quarrel is the make-up sex.
Especially if it's with each other.
Oh who the fuck cares?
[quote]NPH's "theatre days" only lasted a year before he met David...[R41] is making stuff up
Ehhh...dead wrong. Neil was in a production for one year prior to his show but was still very much a part of the theater scene in New York in the late 90s, early 00s and he was out and about in the scene, ask any New York queen who liked to party back then and they'll probably have an NPH story.
Neil doesn't want to be tied down with a husband and kids. Can't blame him for that.
Jesus Christ, R62, then why did he agree to have the two kids with David?
Exactly my thought R63.
Why are people believing this article in the freaking NATIONAL ENQUIRER?
It is not true!
They have said it is not true.
And if you think ANYTHING in the National Enquirer is ever true, well bless your heart.
[quote]And if you think ANYTHING in the National Enquirer is ever true, well bless your heart.
Hi there! Can I count on your vote? Get a donation? A blow job?
Do you not realize that The Enquirer has actually been the first to break many big recent stories R65? Obviously a lot of what they write might not be true, but they have a more respectable history than you are implying.
Well, NPH and David are not married.
So it is true they are not married.
[quote]He performed a back alley abortion when he was 15, and neglected to inform the producers. That could have been ratings gold.
Was the abortion on Natalie, Jo, Blair, or Tootie?
I kept seeing a promo for some new show (maybe just a special) on either Food Network or Cooking Channel hosted by someone named David Burtka. I assume it is the same guy. Anyone know?
yes r70, David is a trained chef (and the gayest chorus boy in the history of the theatre too)
NPH tweeted last night that the rag item is not true. no "divorce" planned.
[quote]NPH tweeted last night that the rag item is not true
so did Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson....
[quote]He's STRAIGHT! I knew it all along. by: Cheryl
He's fucked more women than most straight guys.
R71 Thanks. I finally found an article about on Cooking Channel's blog.
Burka was a notorious star fucker when he landed NPH his previous string of BFs were all power gays in nyc.
NPH on Twitter: "The Nat Enq is cray cray. We've never had a wedding date, just engaged (Prop 8 and all). We're on a cruise as I write. He's rad. All good."
1. I don't think you go on cruises with someone you're planning to leave. Too much high risk areas to dump the body.
2. Couples fight all the time. It doesn't mean they're breaking up.
3. National Enquirer may have gotten one thing correct with John Edwards but they've been wrong plenty of other times.
Remember this story from the National Enquirer about Anderson Cooper:
"ANDERSON COOPER has kicked his two-timing boy friend out of their Manhattan apartment and called off their engagement after seeing photos of the chiseled cheater kissing an other man in a New York City park."
It turned out that never happened when pictures showed up of Ben coming out of AC's apartment.
It seems the go to for National Enquirer stories on gay men is 'calling off their engagement' stories. That was also another instance where AC never once said he was engaged to be married.
[quote]If NPH is using phrases like "cray cray," he has bigger problems than wedding dates.
I agree. He's gonna be 40 in June. He sounds ridiculous saying "cray cray".
In any case, even if the NE story isn't true, I have found it interesting that they've been together for years, yet NPH STILL hasn't married him.
[quote]Do you not realize that The Enquirer has actually been the first to break many big recent stories...
Yeah, they predicted Katharine Hepburn's "final days!" every year for at least six years before she died at age 96!
I think NPH is just not the marrying type, R79. They apparently proposed to each other but David was the first to propose. NPH said he freaked out a bit at first. Doesn't sound like he's into the idea of marriage.
How can NPH commit to a piece of garbage like HIMYM for a decade, but have issues doing the same to his kids and fuckable husbwife?
Proof that the gay marriage is a worthless debate that is just blinding the issue, that gays want all the benefits of marriage but none of the actual responsibility.
Oh STFU freeper/r83, as if straight couples never call of their wedding plans.
Fuck you, freeper R83. Proof, if anything, that this couple has problems, not proof that every gay couple does.
May I extrapolate the value of heterosexual marriage by considering only Pamela Anderson Lee Kidrock?
Me thinks r84 and r85 protest too loud.
I think it's the expected gossip rag drama that comes with the celebrity territory. Look at Brangelina and how many times they were on the outs and on the sure road to breaking up for good.
A devious mind even may think that either NPH or Burka planted the seed that gave birth to the article (you know, the whole 'telling a friend' something that goes to a gossip reporter's ear right after that).
I saw the Oprah special, NPH doesn't want any more kids and David does. I don't know why, but David struck me as demanding and hard to please. He also stated he was jealous when NPH had a career resurgence. I wasn't impressed with him.
NPH is so hot and well built. I think he's a bottom?
[quote]He also stated he was jealous when NPH had a career resurgence. I wasn't impressed with him.
Wow, I can't believe he actually admitted that.
The weird part of the Oprah interview was how NPH said he was with women when he was young but then accepted he was gay whereas Burtka lectury about the Kinsey scale.....as if that little gay was ever even slightly bisexual
Harris has the AIDS, he's infested with it. I am glad they had daughters though. Do homos molest boy kids too?
Neil Patrick Harris has a hairy ass. So you know he's full of dingle berries and doesn't wash properly.
I Like David burtka not NPH. The Oprah Interview was honest and amazing. And it was wonderful to see that David Burtka said he had been very depressed and how they handle it as individuals and couples. I do not think they have big problems ( all relationships go up and down, it's just the way it is) it's just that people love to create rumors. It seems like manu here feel better about yourself when you can put down other people.
The fact is that it is not legal to marry in California because of Prop 8. So what is point to marry before it becomes valid. They have already secured themselves and their children if something happen to one of them or they split up.
Why Can't people just stop hating?
Hold on OP, your last paragraph implies that the status of Prop 8 is all or part of the reason for not getting married. Now that is a stretch, even for you.
It seems NPH has no intention of actually marrying DB, which is nobody's business and not a big deal to anyone but DB.....but the issue is NPH uses his relationship with DB endlessly. A frigging Oprah interview?
Come on now!
[quote]So what is point to marry before it becomes valid
Heaven forbid a couple of rich millionaire cross a state line to get married. No one has EVER done that in the history of the world.
Love is one thing, but actually going out of your way, well that's too much bother.
Ok, at this point in the thread we should separate into teams. Team NPH vs. Team David ... and then we should fight to our death.
Ah there is only one side Dougie Howser. The other guy is a sugar homo. He'll be with in a lunch clutch with Britney Spears sponge and Nate "Whatever his name is" soon to be Ex.
DB comes across as super maternal.
[quote] We're on a cruise as I write.
Neil's writing a gay remake of " Runaway Bride".
I didn't know they had planned one.
The scandal rags have always gotten off on the shock value of using the "gay wedding" headline. Someone should tell these antediluvian ninnies that a "gay wedding" is not that shocking anymore.
Shouldn't that be 'calls off wedding'. Why was it necessary to announce it as a gay wedding. I think the fact that the other party is also a male speaks for itself.
I saw the Oprah interview and I also thought David was the maternal type. In fact NPH said he didn't bond with his kids at first which is a very daring thing to admit.
I thought it was Neil who said he always knew he was gay and it was David who dated women before. It also seemed that NPH fell head over heels for David and David took longer to come around.
My impression was that David was envious of Neil's career. When Neil told him he was hosting the Emmys David was not exactly happy. He was depressed over his career and that's why he took up cooking. I think if they do break up it'd be over career envy or the fact that David wanted more kids and Neil didn't.
[quote]The weird part of the Oprah interview was how NPH said he was with women when he was young but then accepted he was gay whereas Burtka lectury about the Kinsey scale.....as if that little gay was ever even slightly bisexual
Exactly what I thought.
I hear it's because of the fact that his (NPH) publicist Simon Halls is dating the world's most beautiful man - Matt bomer, while he's stuck with David and yet he (NPH) is the celebrity and is much younger and hotter than Halls.
I hear it was the bachelor party that caused the rift.
Doogie. LEGEND WAIT FOR IT DARY
NPH seems so straight
He seems straight while being in a sexual relationship with a man R109? Isn't that the exact opposite of being straight?
I am assuming you are saying that based on gay=feminine, which c'mon, if you don't live some sheltered life should know isn't true.
Any shirtless pics?
Neil has gayface. I am so intrigued by this phenomenom. I want to study gayface and it's biological origins.
Not really, R12. Certainly not compared to David, who is gayface personified.
They will deny it but watch them seperate by years end.
I hope this isn't true.
They are an adorable family.
David is a whore... everyone knows that. unfaithful. Surprised it lasted as long as it did.. tha tis, if they are separating.
Burtka is a bigger whore than Neil ever was. But Burtka is a goldigging sex toy who's gotten everything he wants because of Neil. He'll be gone very soon, and no one will miss him.
But he'll he'll still have his bondage tricks.
Where are the shirtless pics? Hopefully Neil's career will tank so they boys will have to do a porno together.
R117, NPH is also a big whore. They found each other.
R119 = Max von Essen, who slept with both of them (separately).
NPH definitely doesn't have gayface at all - that's why Middle America loves him so much. David, however, does... They accept him only because he's the 'wife' of a mensch.
Not all of us are cut out to be parents. Call me.
I don't think middle America accepts or rejects David Burtka, r121. They have no idea who he is.
NPH HAS gayface.
Burtka was "depressed" over his career? I saw him in two shows - he is the least charismatic, least talented creature ever to call himself a performer. It's obvious he slept his way into the roles he had. He should be elated for the career he had.
MAYBE ALL THE YEARS OF PLAYING BARNEY WAIT-FOR-IT STINSON HAVE MADE NEIL RETHINK HIS SEXUALITY.BUT WHAT WOULD DOUGIE HOWSER THINK?MAYBE HIS MAN NEEDS BARNEY'S PLAYBOOK TO GET HIM BACK.THAT MIGHT BE LEGEN-WAIT-FOR-IT DARY.OF COURSE IF NEIL WENT STRAIGHT THAT WOULD BE AWE-WAIT FOR-IT SOME TOO!
Just saw this thread. On was on the Disney cruise with NPH and DB last week (well, I was on the cruise and they were on the cruise, we weren't together). Gotta tell you - they looked very happy as a couple and both seemed like great parents. They were always out and about on the ship, friendly to anyone who spoke to them. For the most part, people left them alone. They really seemed like a cute couple together and were smiling and laughing a lot, with and without the kids (they had a set of grandparents with them too).
I don't enjoy NPH in any manner. He's a mediocre actor, but he's impossible to connect with any character he plays. His solo personality is too self centered. He's certainly not good looking, he possesses the typical appearance of West Virginia hill billy. Heck, if Burka could get a legal settlement for taking the kids, that would be a double win.
Why does Burka have four kids and Neil only has two?
Weigh it for yourself honey
They never had a wedding set to call off.
David has expensive taste. From an interview about his new show on E, touring celeb homes.
Question: How often do you find yourself wishing you lived at the houses shown in the series?
David Burtka: So many times! My taste is really different than a lot of these extravagant homes that I go to and I have to be very political in a way as I can't put people's houses down but there were a lot of times where I had house envy and I was in awe of these properties and the amenities that they have. It really makes me look at my house, for example, and think 'we could have done that different' or 'in the next bigger house that we have, we'll do this and that'. My better half, Neil Patrick Harris, doesn't love the fact that I'm doing A-List Listings because now every house that I look at, is not good enough (laughs), there always could be something more! It conditions you, I think it's a good thing that I've seen the best of real estate which opens my minds to new ideas; it's all a good thing!
When I saw that Oprah interview and saw how David's dad was just so sweet and still bought to tears over his wife's death even though it's been a few years, I think that David must be a really nice person coming from that. His dad also seems the most accepting of his son's relationship and says Neil is his son in law. In contrast Neil's parents seem to have grudgingly accepted that he's gay. They still seem uncomfortable with it.
Based on looking at the parents, I'd guess David is loyal and not a cheating whore (as implied by some on here.) That doesn't mean he doesn't want nice things though.
[quote]or example, and think 'we could have done that different' or 'in the next bigger house that we have, we'll do this and that'. he's such a wife!!!
I think Neil's parents were just WASPier than David's dad, R133, but they seemed accepting as well
