Who do you want as Oscar host?

Maybe you want Seth to return? Maybe you want them to pick someone edgier? Maybe you want someone more traditional? Who do you think should host the Oscars? Please try to pick someone who could actually make it through the ceremony though if you think Kristin Stewart should host then go right ahead.

• Amy Bishop is an awesome idea! I would say Tina/Amy, Jimmy Fallon is ok...or for the elders...Martin Short. I just saw him on a repeat of the Xmas ep of SNL and he is a God.

• Cillian Muprhy, who can announce the Best Actor AND Best Actress awards.

• Well, now that you mention it I totally want Kristen Stewart to host. She can co-host with James Franco. It would be a horrible idea but I would watch.

• I liked Seth but I think it should be someone involved with movies. Real movies, not Ted. Martin Short I would enjoy, Tom Hanks maybe? When I first watched it was Whoopi and I've missed her.

• No one. Just populate the show with past Oscar winners and legends to intro the awards and performances of Oscar nominated songs and then just give out the awards and let that be the end of it.

• They should just go ahead and have someone different every year. It makes the show at least somewhat interesting since everything else about it stays the same.

• Meryl. That is in 2015 if she gets a year off when not nominated/winning. I think I read that Meryl was to join her It's Complicated co-stars Baldwin and Martin, they were pretty good come to think of it. But I'd love Meryl to co-host with another comedic actor, a la the years Jane Fonda and Goldie Hawn did it with some others in the 80s. I just think she'd be good at it and it would be fun, a strange idea I had.

• I think Seth COULD have been a good host. He just wasn't. He's capable. But he blew it, imho. That said, who would I want in the future? Well, I'm somewhat alone in this, but I've always liked when Whoopie hosted. Ellen was sorta bland, but still competent. Jay Leno would be an obvious choice, except for I just loathe him. But he'd probably do okay. Another "obvious" choice is Ryan Seacrest. He lacks any form of snark though (he doesn't seem to realize this, unfortunately, so he keeps trying). Tina Fey & Amy Poehler? Sign me up! Lady GaGa would be amusing, perhaps. What about George Clooney? I think he has just about the perfect "tone" for the show.

• I always thought Jerry Seinfeld was made for the Oscar hosting gig. He's funny, but safe. They've shown they don't want edgy at these things ie. Gervais and McFarlene.

• Andy Cohen might be a good idea. They just need someone upbeat, a basic kind of host. The comedians aren't working because the fad in recent years has been mean, crude humour that isn't really right for an awards show pretending to be semi-serious and broadcast to millions.

• Robin Williams and Sarah Silverman should host. That show would be off the rails.

• Seth MacFarlane. But, he'll never do it. The film industry's loss and our loss as viewers (and movie fans.) It astounds me that people are criticizing him. Consider this: All of the Best Picture nominees (except "Argo") were for gloomy, gut-wrenchingly sad movies or obscure films that no one saw. The nominees were all from these downbeat movies (has there ever been a less glamorous bunch of nominated actors and actresses?) Somehow Seth MacFarlane was supposed to turn these off-putting films and the notoriously tedious long ceremony into something entertaining that people (especially younger people) would watch. And he...did it! Instead of celebrating his achievement everyone's going over every second of the broadcast with the suspicious determination usually reserved for purported UFO footage or the Zapruder film fishing for every possible joke that they might have forgotten to be offended about. Are as many people watching "Argo" on Amazon? How many armchair critics pre-ordered their DVD release of the elderly couple facing decline and death? How many even know how to pronounce the name of the little girl from "Beasts of the Southern Wild"-and where were the packed theaters for that movie? I don't think it even played anywhere near where I live, so the notion of a 9 year old winning best actress only added to the absurdity and irrelevance of the event. It was due for a reality check. The "boob song?" I'm gay, but I know that every straight guy got the joke. Remember how charged up us gays were by the "8th Wonder of the World" between Michael Fassbender's legs-even George Clooney joked about it-and in "Shameless" he played a hopeless sex addict. So some of the women who bared their breasts on film were portraying victimized characters? People take screen caps out of context., because they are out of context! I'm sure the majority of straight guys enjoyed seeing the bare breasts of movie stars as gay guys like seeing the actors who are brave enough to go "Full Monty." The truer the joke the more uncomfortable people get-that's the exact definition of satire. And Seth MacFarlane is one of the masters of creative, zany, over-the-top-but bracingly honest pop-culture satire Hollywood has ever produced. He's like Robin Williams with sanity and smarts. The only revolutionary difference this year is that people were already complaining about how awful the Oscars were-while they were still happening! I think the two jokes that were out of line and awkwardly unfunny: the Adele/Rex Reed joke and the Mark Wahlberg/"Jews run Hollywood" bit seemed to come from desperation at being knocked off balance by the flood of hate Tweets that began seconds into the show. Rest assured next year Seth MacFarlane probably won't host. Who ever does will be eaten alive, the ratings will never be this high again and by the first commercial break the Twitterati will be crying out-"(blank) is the worst host ever! Why couldn't they get Seth MacFarlane again! He was great!"

• Django wasn't sad or obscure. Big hit at box office. Same with Silver Linings Playbook, a downright feel good romantic comedy that also did well at the box office.

• I agree with a lot of what R68 said. Seth wasn't a terrible host as far as Oscar Hosts go, he got an undue amount of hate and the fact is he did deliver ratings and a show that got people talking. Exactly what the Oscars needed.
