Why was Hugh Jackman In The Middle of the Les Miserables Musical Number At The Oscars?
After all Anne Hathaway was the only one of the group to walk off with the Oscar.
As the newly minted Oscar winner and now reining Supporting Actress champ, shouldn't she be in the middle.
Yet it was Hugh who was front and center (see pic below) while Anne was shoved off to the side.
Why?

- Hi, Middle Troll! Hugh is in the center because he's the star of the movie. Anne won for *supporting* actress, don't forget.
- Reining? She's not Julia Roberts.
- [quote] Hugh is in the center because he's the star of the movie.
And Anne isn't?
- because he's the star of the movie.
next!
- It seems to me that they're splitting center.
- But Anne won the Oscar
That puts her one-up on Hugh
- Doesn't matter that Anne won the Oscar, idiot.
The book, the play and the movie are based on Jean Valjean, the character Jackman played.
- You're an idiot. First of all, she hadn't yet won at the time of the musical number. Second, even if she had, at the time she won, Hugh's category was still to come, and he could've won. Third, did you actually SEE the movie? Fantine was NOT the central character.
- [quote] Fantine was NOT the central character.
Then how do you explain Cossette?
Not for her, Cossette wouldn't have existed.
- No one cares.
- If it wasn't for Jean Valjean, Cosette would be a toothless hooker, like her mother.
- It is more or less how the number is staged. How come Russell Crowe's mic worked and Jackman's didn't. Crowe cannot sing!
- [quote] It is more or less how the number is staged
It was staged wrong. It should of had Anne front and center in the middle, with Hugh and Russell between her.
Man-Female-Man
- Crowe sounded the best I've heard him. Which isn't saying a lot for that part. I don't think he's a terrible singer, just not the right singer for that part.
- Jackman should have been in the center, as the star of the film and the person with the most dominant vocal role in "One Day More".
Anne was front and center in the pre-release publicity, of course, which was right and proper as she's the biggest box-office draw in the cast.
- And "I Dreamed a Dream" is what R15 ?
- Hey Anne, I won Best Supporting too, ya know...
Mira
- Yeah but I have an Emmy AND an Oscar. Next stop Eliza Doolittle to win that Tony that was denied to Julie Andrews

- Did you fall off a horse and hit your head when you were a child, OP?
There's brain damage, isn't there?
- R19 next time you pose for a group photo and someone shoves you aside for the middle position, and you are stuck on the side.
Come back here and tell use how that felt.
- You realize that AnnE's character was dead at the time that number was performed in the movie?
- He's the biggest star OP.
- [quote] He's the biggest star OP.
Not anymore

They were making a small reference to the stage musical in the Oscar presentation.
I am always surprised by people commenting on movies they haven't seen and in this case a musical stage production that has been presented everywhere. Watch the 10th anniversary concert on You Tube. The best cast ever assembled.
Tony Awards, original Broadway cast, Les Miz.
One Day More.
