Why do Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty always get front-row Oscar seats?
Even if not nominated? Even if they didn't work that year? Why keep kissing their asses? Is it still 1975? We're supposed to think they're still 'cool'?
I'm tired of their old asses too.
I'm pretty sure that they've got Nicholson propped up like a Weekend at Bernie's deal.
Their corpses will be placed in front row too.
Hollywood executives and parties with young under-aged girls.
The one shot they had of Nicholson he looked around like he was wondering why tipoff hasn't happened.
They slipped the usher a fiver
Nicholson had a stroke he's tried to keep quiet for several years. Of course he's looking bad - plus the fact that he is a truly bad person - a monster - helps the cause of decrepitness.
As for Beatty, his early-stage Alzheimers is the only thing that has kept Bening around. He still fucks around, but is so pathetic she figures she can outwait the institutionalization and claim the whole pile instead of grabbing half.
I always think Nicholson's sunglasses are annoying.
Nicholson thinks he's at a Laker game.
It's telling that they don't cut to Nicholson even when they're making a joke about him (as Mark Wahlberg did).
Warren Beatty was so handsome in his youth
"He still fucks around, but is so pathetic she figures she can outwait the institutionalization and claim the whole pile instead of grabbing half."
Who would fuck Beatty now??!! He's a withered crone and doesn't have a lot of pull in Hollywood anymore.
I guess they are considered Hollywood aristocrats. Being men, it doesn't matter how decrepit they look.
I thought Beatty was a recluse now because of dementia but apparently not.
Was Warren Beatty there? I saw Jack but I did not see Warren and Annette.
To get them into their wheelchairs and on to the toilet quicker during the breaks.
There were very few shots of Nicholson; what's up with that?
Because he looks awful. I bet he smells and his underwear is slightly soiled.
My guess is next year, Nicholson's appearance at the Academy Awards will consist of a five second clip during the In Memorium segment.
DOes he really look that bad? I must have missed when they showed him.
R13, Warren pays for it. Are you so naive? Plus he's still "someone."
And, yes, they don't show Nicholson except from a distance. Why they keep the secret I don't know. The power of Devil Jack.
Handicapped seating, perhaps?
Hello, he was presenting the Oscar for best picture.
Glad to see the therapy has finally worked. Wow - they kept it a surprise that Nicholson had finally recovered.
He's a walking corpse now, but Nicholson's work in the 1970s makes actors today look like clowns.
Does Warren Beatty really have Alzheimer's? I hadn't heard that, so sad. I like a lot of his work.
Cause they fucked your mom
R31, you revived a thread for THAT?
Oh well, since it has indeed been revived, I can take the opportunity to reveal that both Nicholson and Beatty have long been employed as seat-fillers, but only when very important personages have to pee. So naturally they wind up in the front row.
Nicholson and Beatty were always over rated as actors. There off screen antics were more famous than their movie roles. Face it guys you both are old, look in the mirror, perhaps you can getting some dating tips from Bill Cosby.
Who's considered "not a over-rated" actor, R33?
Abe Vigoda is not an over-rated actor.
Jerry Lewis's performance in "The Day the Clown Cried" is not over-rated either. Except perhaps in France, but even there, only in the newly-emergent, extreme-right, antisemitic circles.
Is that the movie where Jerry Lewis was the clown who marched Jews into the oven? I can see it being a favorite on datalounge, sure.
R33 is an indication of the types of slack-jawed, know-nothing, cellar-stinking trolls bumbling about here.
Step on it. If it's too fat (likely) swat it with a broom out the door.
Jack's hoping JLaw will fall again this time ......right onto his lap
Nicholson played the same role over and over. And not with any emotional depth. Any emotionally deep scenes were acted out using wisecracking. Maybe OK a few times like OFOCN, but it was in all films. It was what he resorted to instead of showing any emotional depth.
R31 = Beatty's transson
Does Sally Kirkland still go every year? I know she was a nominee but long after that she was still doing the red carpet while other former nominees were long forgotten.
Truly one of the great questions of our time.
No, R36. He entertained them on their way. He didn't actually march them into the ovens.
Oh, he didn't save try to save them. Just made them smile as they were turned to soap in Nazi gas chambers. Got it. I can definitely see that as being a favorite here on datalounge.
I can't say I've spotted Warren Beatty in the front row in recent years. Nicholson various times, but not Beatty.
Alright Mel Gibson's father, give it a rest.
R41 she was the Bai Ling of her generation.
Alright, cliched asshole @R50 who apparently thinks pointing out the myths you keep repeating means I don't think millions of Jews were killed in the Holocaust.
Like I didn't anticipate the shithead in you surfacing because I deigned to correct you.
Stop making jokes about Jack being a geriatric. Michael Caine and Judi Dench are older than him and I don't see you making fun of them.
Okay Mel, give it a rest.
R53, perhaps they're Anjelica Huston fans.
R54, my last post to you: You want to go on lying about it and being a little bitch by essentially calling me an anti-Semite because you don't feel fact should be separated from fiction and that killing millions of people wasn't horrific enough in your estimation, so you feel a need to add lies, that's fine with me.
They give the best Blow Jobs?
R53, nobody makes fun of Caine or Dench because, unlike Jack, they act their respective ages. You don't see Michael Caine hitting on Jennifer Lawrence and acting as if he's still partying in swinging London.
Jack and Warren are both relics in ways that many of their contemporaries are not. Jack could get away with it for longer by remaining an acclaimed actor in memorable films, but it's been nearly a decade since "The Departed" and it's increasingly pathetic to see him act as if he's the lothario he was in 1974.
DiCaprio should take note, since he's looking at the same future.
Michael Caine doesn't hit on young ladies because he's been married to Shakira for many years.
Maybe Jack still does things like this because he feels he has to live up to his reputation, people still want him to be Jack.
But I don't think he's pretending he's still like he was in the 70s. Even his movies joked about his advancing age (Bucket List, Something's Gotta Give, About Schmidt) and he's made self-deprecating remarks in interviews ("With my sunglasses on, I'm Jack. Without them I'm fat and 70")
[quote]DiCaprio should take note, since he's looking at the same future.
3 Oscars, a record number of nominations and Hollywood royalty status? Sounds good to me!
R59/60 I would agree with that for the most part. As far back as Terms of Endearment, when he was only in his mid-40s, he had no problem with the paunchy, balding, over the hill jokes that were made about him. Apparently Burt Reynolds did, so...his loss.
He has certainly never had any plastic surgery that I can see - unlike Beatty, Michael Douglas, etc.
Maybe he liked to have fun past whatever age is deemed "appropriate," but I don't think he's vain, no did he ever pretend to be younger then he was like a Goldie Hawn, dressing up and instagramming Halloween pics with her daughter.
R 61 I think they meant the middle age spread part. Leo is gonna get that, big time.
R63, I meant it more in the "it's pathetic to still be obsessed with banging models after age 40" way than the middle-aged spread, but Leo will have to worry about that, too.
It was so worth reviving this thread just so R31 could display his stunning wit. I don't know how people can possibly say DL is not as clever as it used to be.
Some real brilliance there R31. You should be proud.
Nicholson's in a different league to Beatty, who is competent at best.
Nicholson might not have stretched himself as far as he could, but when not just Being Jack his work is excellent: 'Marvin Gardens', 'Carnal Knowledge', 'Chinatown', 'Cuckoo's Nest', 'Ironweed', 'Schmidt' - to name a few that Beatty, or most other actors, couldn't have owned so well.
Keep reading on DL about Beatty's infirmity; surprised then to see a big UK interview with Bening in which she says WB is busy editing a big new film. So, we'll see.
They would never be able to find their seats otherwise.
I'm 30 and I'm not exactly sure why Warren Beatty is put up there with the likes of Nicholson and the other 1970s icons, his (fairly short) filmography doesn't seem anywhere near illustrious, his only genuine classic seems to be Bonnie and Clyde. He's the same age as Nicholson so he's a contemporary in that sense, but it is also because he slept with thousands of women? Was he was massive tabloid fodder back in the day?
They are Hollywood Royalty.

When he first goes to bed with Shirley MacLaine, as he's standing by the bed, he seems to be deliberately sticking his pot belly out. You know how you can push your belly out with your muscles and make yourself look fat, that's what he looks like he's doing. (I can't find a clip or a screencap so I'm just going from memory)
