The real scam that is health care

- I just received a bill for $712. The "professional charges" are only $174; the "technical charges," whatever that consists of, are $538. There is also a state surcharge of $13. I guess I should consider myself lucky that this non-profit medical group is actually giving me a discount although I am uninsured. I only have to pay just under $150.
By the way, the medical service I received? Therapy for anxiety. Ha.
Back to the focus of the article, what can be done about these outrageous mark-ups? What would happen if someone brought their own aspirin/marker/band-aids with them to the hospital?
