Which str8 actors do you think actually did the deed with the same sex at least once, just to get under their gay character's skin? So it wouldn't look fakey?
Are you kidding? Acting is a very feminine profession. Men who enter this field are most likely gay. There isn't a "method".
Actor, stylist, designer...all the same field.
Isn't there a rumor that Joseph Gordon Levitt did the deeds with his Mysterious Skin co-star just for method?
Method acting is not actually doing something in order to know how to play it. Rather it is using one's imagination and sense of the character's experience being like - not exactly the same as - your own experience in order to understand and portray it.
What you are talking about isn't method acting, it's research, which can be done by any actor, method or not.
An actor I once knew was told to watch some good porn by his agent, in order to get a good idea of the experience. Straight porn; the actor was gay. Seriously, completely, unconditionally gay. But when the cameras rolled you had no idea.
method is staying in character even when no camera is pointed at you.
That's really not the way acting works, OP. Most actors routinely have to do things they have never done or would never do as part of their job, and rely upon imagination to get to it. [The teachers I trained with--Esper/Meisner types--were very much against the idea that you had to have personally experienced something to make it real enough to yourself to play convincingly.] No trained actor needs to shoot heroin to play a junkie, or have sex with any particular gender to play a character of different sexuality. Maybe some shit Hollywood types do, but they're usually un- or poorly trained movie stars, not real, working actors.

No, that's a bit of mental illness or pretention.
There were always rumors about River Phoenix during MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO.

That's all fine and dandy but please read the question posed by OP. He's not asking for a lecture on good acting technique or the proper definition of method acting. He just wants to know who you think (shit Hollywood type and all, if you must call them that) tried a real-life gay experience for the sake of a performance.
So the pretentious acting teachers just keep your yaps shut if you don't have anyone you'd like to suggest, as your services were not requested.
I would guess its no different than when an straight actor has to play a love scene with an actress he is not attracted to.
Again, r11, who cares?
OP wants names; and it doesn't have to even be the truth for chrissakes - just an opinion.
How difficult is it to come up with someone?
Or would you all rather engage on a discussion of the infinitive I just split?
Straights can act gay, but most gays cannot act straight.
And they wonder why they're still waiting tables.
But gays can act gay. Because it's an act.
James Franco isn't gay for movie roles, R1, he's just gay for real.
