But if he's nominated, his ass would be in front row.
Oh, has-beens. What are they like?
He may be a has-been but he's completely right.
He's no Marlon Brando.
There seem to be quite a few people that have been very vocal about these awards. Including one nominee, who won't of course win. I think it's kind of cool.
With so many people struggling through hard times, it's sort of revolting to watch people whose performances were mediocre grinning from ear to ear because they got a nod, knowing they had to campaign to get it.
I love the Oscars and never miss it, but Hawke is right. So many terrible movies have been given Oscars for best picture--Dances With Wolves, Braveheart, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, American Beauty, Rain Man, and on and on.
The Oscars are a popularity contest and that's it. A lot of fun, but not really "best" in anything.
Ethan Hawke has been nominated twice for an Oscar.
• 2001 Best Supporting Actor in "Training Day" (he lost to Jim Broadbent in "Iris")
• 2004 Best Adapted Screenplay for "Before Sunset" (he lost to Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor for "Sideways")
Don't forget "Crash"(and not the good one) won over Brokeback Mountain.
In a way he is right. The Oscars are nothing more than a marketing ploy. It's aim is to promote the industry and get your ass in a movie theater seat.
The Oscars are only fake and destructive if I don't get one.
"A Beautiful Mind, a feel good movie if there ever was one."
