All true, but assuming the purpose is to tip the scales further and more irrevocably, prominent figures who step forward to say that their minds have been changed may be more influential than some sanctimoniously "correct" figure who has held unwaveringly to his support for same-sex marriage since the Oscar Wilde trials.
It's a thing that liberals do all too often: squabble about their bona fides (who was standing closest to Dr. King on the Selma to Montgomery marches) and lose sight of their purported goal.
