After a period of "soul searching and self-analysis," Davis separated from his second wife in 1985, and says that he went on to have simultaneous relationships with two women and a man. In 1990, he entered into a "monogamous relationship" with a male doctor, who is not named in the book. Although that relationship ended in 2004, Davis says he has been in a subsequent relationship with another man ever since."
Better to come out at 80 than when you're dead I guess. Funny how he seems to have no trouble getting guys. The things money can get you.
Some music artists were able to come out without it ruining their careers, Elton John for example. But Davis was right to tell Whitney to stay closeted, she recorded cheesy MOR crap, her audience didn't have the sophistication to deal with her being a lesbian. It would've ruined her career.
Elton John had almost 20 years of making first impressions not as a gay man. First impressions are very important in creating bonds. Elton John would not have the career he has if he came out right at the beginning. There isn't a gay Usher, Justing Bieber etc. where people knew they were gay from the start and bought their music in the millions. There is still a big issue with homosexuality with straight people. Whitney's entire career was about 29 years and it was on the skids for the last 15 years.
We all know he isn't attractive. He likely does too. He's not putting himself out there as an epitome of beauty. Focus on what he's accomplished.
From the article it says "bisexual life" which would be correct. However, we all know now that he gets hard for men.
There are a lot of men that society would prefer to think of as gay, but if you've had hot sex and romantic entanglements with women too in your 20s and 30s - like Rupert Everett, for example - then you are bisexual, not gay. You might settle down with a man, you might settle down with a woman, and you may well be monogamous doing either, but neither act will change your intrinsic bisexuality.
Not that I want Rupert Everett on the bisexual team any more than I want him on the gay one, as I think he is self-hating and homophobic to the nth degree (or maybe just hating in general).
But Usher IS gay.
I think that what r10 is saying is that Usher is closeted and wouldn't have had the same career as an out gay person.
r10, Elton came out as "bi" in a Rolling Stone interview in 1976, which was 6 years after his first hit. Yes that wasn't coming out as "gay" but it was as close as any major star had come at that time. And everyone knew he was really just gay, he was nearly as flamboyant as Liberace. His career did suffer a decline at the time, but only because it coincided with him recording less commercial material. Still he remained a top 40 presence, and eventually came back big with "Im Still Standing" in 1983.
Is Usher the one that Frank Ocean had the thing with?
Good on him, coming out late better than never.
He could have swayed the general public's favor towards gay acceptance with his actions, but instead he preferred to make profits and keep the general public ignorant and homophobic.
He's a horrible individual.
r6 - ty.
Por que los homosexals siempre feo? Por que no pueden ellos estar caliente?
r20 go fuck yourself.
Maybe he will inspire those other music mogul closet queens to come out. Like Quincy Jones, Russell Simmons, P Diddy and Jay Z.
I thought of a naked woman once. That makes me bi.
Not exactly a surprise, but at least he finally went public about it.
No surprises. Even Iggy Pop outed Clive in his own memoirs years ago.
Clive has dated men exclusively since 1985. That seems to stretch the "bi" definition a bit. Like I took a girl to my high school prom...
"There isn't a gay Usher, Justing Bieber etc. where people knew they were gay from the start and bought their music in the millions."
I beg your pardon?
Better late then never...but not much better. He could have come out 20 years ago, who would have cared? Geffen came out, so why not Davis?
r17, I agree.
Mother's mussy is writhing like a salted slug, envisioning this hot number cinching down his Depends!
[quote]Clive has dated men exclusively since 1985. That seems to stretch the "bi" definition a bit. Like I took a girl to my high school prom...
And this news needed to be announced? Like somebody out there really thought he was straight, especially after meeting the creepy fuck?
My straight phase signees: Sprinsteen, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith
My bi phase signees: Laura Nyro, Carly Simon, Lou Reed, Pink
My gay phase signees: Kelly Clarkson, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Toni Braxton
My double anal penetration phase signees: Dionne Warwick, Ace of Base, Expose
Clive Davis got his boys the same way Bryan Singer gets his. With unlimited drugs and promises of stardom. Anyone who ever ran into Davis on Fire Island knew the way he worked- as a predator.
I used to think what's the point of being someone if he didn't want me back...so when I'd hear about powerful mean using their influence to get hot guys in bed, I'd think it was so sad.
why not just rent the dick rather than manipulate it.
Will Young has been out since he won the UK "Pop Idol" show and his album sales have been estimated a 8 million.
Clay Aiken's been out for 5 years and his album sales are around 7 million WW.
For men of a certain age, often times "bi" is the new gay.
But make no mistake, they're gay--and not bi. They just cannot admit it.
He said on The View that he's still "attracted" to women, so he's bi. You could say it's like how Richard Simmons is "attracted" to Barbra Streisand.
You mean like the Rosie O'Donnell is attracted to Tom Cruise type of bi?
So Usher, La Reid are few of his exes right?
r45 - Usher? He's 80. Maybe LA Reid.
He doesn't have the years left Ricky Martin and Elton John had to change their minds. He also has an ex wife and kids whose feelings he's probably trying to protect. Let's just accept it, it'll say he was bi in his obituary.
He was hiring renboy's in the 70's.
R40 No one (or very few people) state(s) orientation in an obit. Just survived by beloved Labradoodle "Mitzi" and Ming vase collection.
High powered gays are always 'a good thing.'
The man says he's bi, so he's bi.
He's been in a long term gay relationship. Still doesn't take away him being bisexual. That's his label, let him keep it. It's not like his going around saying he's gay while having sex with women.
It's interesting that his memoir hits shelves one week shy of the one year anniversary of Whitney Houston's death. User.
What has the release of his memoir got to do with Whitney's death anniversary? She was responsible for how she lived and how she died. And her family used and exploited her far more than he ever did.
Why does someone with more money than God and likely only minutes left to live need to write a book?
Who wants to hear about Clive Davis' sex life?
No one! Distasteful today to see Clive on Katie Couric's talk show talking about his bisexuality and attractions. Too much information!
He is age 80 and unattractive. No one wants info on his sex life nor to picture his sex life as he talks about it.
He may be attracted to women, but I bet he would never have a relationship with a woman at this point nor would any women be atracted to him except maybe for his money and rich life style.
my only question is- is he a top or a bottom?
How many new artists did he tell to bend over and when they refused he destroyed them.
Who wants to have skeletal sex with me? I'm usually into women but can be persuaded.
He is older than dirt though, and he probably still thinks he's in the 70s Elton John land of "if I say I'm bi, it's not as bad".
Did anyone see the overhead shot of his scalp on the "Katie" show today> WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? It looked like he was wearing a fake scalp cap. No bald man's scalp, even at 80, looks like that.
It was disgusting and creepy.
"What has the release of his memoir got to do with Whitney's death anniversary?"
I'm sure it was, and it planned by the publisher.
r55 - You sound like the typical homophobic idiot who thinks that being gay or talking about being gay means graphic descriptions of sex acts. Do you think that's what Katie was asking him about? Grow up.
[quote]He may be attracted to women, but I bet he would never have a relationship with a woman at this point nor would any women be atracted to him except maybe for his money and rich life style.
He has a long term partner. He didn't 'settle' for a man because no woman would have him. Are you an Aspie by any chance?
R63, you take the prize for convoluted, irrational, unreasonable, faulty thinking, strange accusatory weird posts.
Bi, so that's what they are calling latent homosexuality now?
"Maybe he will inspire those other music mogul closet queens to come out. Like Quincy Jones, Russell Simmons, P Diddy and Jay Z"
Quincy Jones is gay? Since when?!
"He may be attracted to women, but I bet he would never have a relationship with a woman at this point nor would any women be atracted to him except maybe for his money and rich life style."
But you think men WOULD be attracted to him? Women love old, rich guys.
Sludge provider Clive's eyes are black pits.
Anyone have his number?
Funny all these posts here claiming they are not surprised that he is gay. I have NEVER seen Clive Davis's name come up in any threads on Datalounge about him being gay.
R63 It kind of dawned on me a couple of years ago. I never really thought about it. But then Whitney started to make her comeback and he was all over that. Then I read somewhere he had been single for over 25 years and was known for his fabu parties. So that was a clue. Funny how he never let on about his long term relationships.
It did come up quite a bit in the Whitney threads last February, R70. People were accusing him of being one closeted person putting pressure on another to remain closeted.
R70 Have you been hiding under a rock for let's say the last five years! It looks like an insider intimated that he was out to his family already.
Clive also claimed that he was involved with two women and a man after his second marriage. That's stretching things a bit. One of the girls was a she/it/he/thing that looked like a cross between Mango and Pat from SNL. As for the other girl, it was a paid beard who had an absolutely mannish face. She also could have been a guy in disguise as well.
[quote]when I'd hear about powerful mean using their influence to get hot guys in bed, I'd think it was so sad.
I agree. You would never see me trying anything like that.
r64 - And yet you haven't refuted anything. Are you the LeeAnn Rimes troll? Your overuse of adjectives and oddball reasoning seems familiar.
R63, R75, you are the one with completely oddball weird reasoning. I did not say anything at R55 which describes what you supposedly ascertained at R63.
Your ability to ascertain the meaning of what has been written is non-existent and very faulty.
Clive Davis' last words to Katy Couric today were "If my current relationship (which is with a man) were ever to end, I am still attracted to women."
Nowhere did I say or imply that he only 'settled' for a man because he could not get a woman.
I just think he is predominantly gay.
"I have NEVER seen Clive Davis's name come up in any threads on Datalounge about him being gay."
I read it here going way back, long before Whitney's death. I didn't care one way or another, but I DID read it.
I'd like to know what he says about Whitney, he knew her better than anyone else in the industry.
I think P. Diddy is gay but I wouldn't have any idea about the rest.
Why are there sooo many gay people in show business?
[quote] Why are there sooo many gay people in show business?
R80 We gay folk are super creative. We love the arts, music ,film, the stage in a different and more unique way than straight people do.
[quote] Why are there sooo many gay people in show business?
Money? No. Fame? No. Himbos waiting in front of dressing rooms? YES!!
And yet the people here at datalounge never miss a chance to insult Adam Lambert who had the balls to NEVER be in the closet.
I don't get you at all.
R84, we don't care.
I never insulted Adam Lambert, he's cute.
Did anyone say who Clive Davis is taking care of right now?
